Unable to print Name Tent in Word 2000 using mail merge
I've created a mail mailmerge file that prints name tents
(the name is sideways on the page, I can fold the page in
half lengthwise to make a tent).
When I try to print the document from my Dell Computer, it
will not print anything at all. When someone else opens
the file and selects print, it prints as it should. Why

Honestly - I seldom use Word, so this might be a overly basic question...So
don't laugh !
A document was faxed to me for editing (this doc not available to us
electronically)
The pages were numbered 1 of 125 to 125 of 125. However, corrections weren't
required on all the pages.
How do I use the x of y pages in the footer, but with numbers of my
choosing, e.g.;
2 of 125, then 8 of 125, 15 of 125, etc. I want to email the finished
product back, without blank pages.

I have been trying to use files obtained from a VA
database as downloded to either XP Professional MSword or
Excel. The files are always wrapped to 2 rows of
columns. How can I unwrap the colums into a single line
so that I can editthe files? I have querried the
National Service Specialists at VA Central in Washington
and they tell me that the downloaded files are useless
for other than printing. Can anyone help? Thanks

Want to invert text
I have a daily diary in a word document. January first is at the top of the
document and the latest date at the end. I would like to invert it putting
the latest date and the top and January first at the end. Is there a way to

Word lists (as opposed to word count)
Is there a facility to list all the words used in a Word document? I don't need to know the word length but the vocabulary list of any given piece of text. Frequency of occurence would be useful but not essential. It would not need to be used with a dictionary or spell-checker, but simply to list every different combination of letters separated by spaces. This would mean I could find out what sort of language complexity a text has in any language by knowing which words it uses (useful both in my capacity as a language teacher and a language learner).
If there is no such function in Word, are there any commercially available programs on the market that do this?

I find Microsoft works much different than the Microsoft word
- How do I highlight text (not the paragraph) in a document?
- If I send a file (say, file.wps) which is in Microsoft works format to a
person using Microsoft word (version 2000 or earlier), can he/she open this
file?

File - Open - takes a really long time!
Hello,
I am using Office 2003. When I try to open a file, the open file dialog
comes up and when I click the drop down arrow in the Look In: field, it
takes a minute or two for the directory list to drop down. It never used to
take this long; however, recently, a dialog popped up and said something
about indexing or searching (I didn't read it very closely - but clicked the
OK button), then the next thing I know, every time I try to open a file, it
takes forever to get the directory list.
Any idea how to turn this feature OFF.

Field Code issue in printing comments
Hi
I am printing a doc in W2000, and for some reason some of the comments
on the last page show the page number before the comment entry text,
and the remainer don't. I have tracked this to a field code issue,
however cannot find how to resolve it to make them all the same.
I actually want to print the page number preceding each comment, so
assume that the field code is somehow responsible for this. I did not
do anything deliberately to turn the code on to make some of the
comments display page numbers and others no to. I have tried Shift + F9
on the comments not displaying the page number however it has not
worked.
Appreciate advice on how to include the page number before each comment
when I print the comments page out.

grid in WORD
I am not sure which group is more appropriate, so I'll post it here and in
the doc management group:
I teach mathematics.
I type my math tests on WORD 97 (I use it in conjunction with MATh Type).
Is there a way to incorporate a small grid on my tests (for graphing
problems)?
I know on the bottom of the screen if I click on Draw I can then choose grid
and it asks for some settings. But I don't know how to put a grid in my
document and I can't seem to find it in the Help Index.
Currently, I made a grid on a MS WORKS spreadsheet and I can copy and paste,
but I would like to do it in WORD. (I can also create one in Geometer's
Sketchpad and do the same) Any ideas? I must be missing something simple.

Keep a form from changing when filling in the blanks
I have developed several tables on one page to use as a report sheet on my
unit in a hospital. I have saved it on a floppy disk. Every day I pull up
this report sheet and change the info, however, if the info being typed in is
too long it changes the appearance of the table (i.e. adding another line, or
increasing the size of the table and hince can't print it). I want the tables
to be fixed and not change with the addition of information. I just want to
fill in the blanks, and when I get to the end of a space it stops accepting

Where can I find clip art with specific Holiday reference?
I post a monthly calendar of events in the building where I live. I like to

can no longer send mail from Word via OE
since connecting to Sympatico basic DSL, on a Win98 system, mail
goes out fine via OE Outlook Express, But not if sent from Word
2000.
Previously, on my other DSL service, I could of course type a file
in Word, then hit File> send to > mail recipient (as attachment),
and presto, the new mail OE box would open inside Word, where I
could choose my "TO" recipient from OE address book and out it would
be sent.
Since connecting to Sympatico basic DSL, I get this error message:

Uncouple Headings, how to
I am working a long document using heading styles and am now in the
Appendix section. In order to have the entire document show in the TOC I
used Heading style 7 to make "Appendix" similar to my Heading 1 but with
different (no) Numbering, and I'm trying to make Heading 8 appear like my
heading 2, but anytime I do anything with Heading 8 it reflects back
through my entire document. How do I uncouple it? I didn't have that
problem with Heading 7.

I am far from a computer whiz and need some help! I just downloaded
the 2003 MS Office Professional to my computer and now get a message
that pops up every time I open or close a Word document.
The message says: The macros in this project are disabled. Please refer

Problem changing header
I've been trying to change the header midway through a documnent i
Word '97. I think I'm following the required procedure, but it's no
working.
Here's what I've done. I created a page break on the page before th
page where I want to make the header change. I then put the cursor o
the next page and go to the header toolbard to click on "same a
previous", as per the instructions, but this area greyed out.
Everything else on the toolbar is fine, except for this one button. I
I go on to make the change in the header, the change is made throughou
the whole document from page one on.

Template Modification Troubles
Hello everyone,
I work for a company that is trying to use Microsoft Word 2002 t
prepare a template that we can use to automatically apply styles t
documents that we prepare.
I am reasonably familiar with making a .dot file, but I am having
difficulty when I try to modify the existing styles (such as Heading 1
Normal, etc).
I need to make the 'Hyperlink' style appear as Arial 10 with a colo
(that works fine), but any time that I change the setting, when Wor
applies the 'Hyperlink' style to anything in my document, it stil
reverts back to Times New Roman.
Here is what I am doing:
From the 'Styles and Formatting' bar, I am right-clicking o
'Hyperlink' and selecting 'Modify...'.
I click the 'Format' dorp-down and select 'Font...'.
I set the font to 10 point Arial (with my color choice RG
102/102/102).
I click OK, check the 'Add to Template' checkbox, set the 'Style Base
on...' field to 'Underlying Properties', then click OK.
Now, when I go make a new hyperlink in the document, the text stil
appears as Times New Roman. I am confused! Can anyone tell me what I a
doing wrong?
I would greatly appreciate any help or advice. Let me know if you nee

How to force the update of a field ?
Hi,
How can I force the automatic update of a field at "Open" or "Save"
time ?
My problem is, for example, with the "LastSavedBy" field.
As we are several person working on the same shared document,
if the last person modifying the document does not "update" the field
after "save" then the document will not be correct !

Incorrect info in Help file?
Hi All!
This morning my boss wanted me to set up our main letter template so
that if he wrote more than a one page letter the header would not
appear on any other page after the first one.
I have to say, having read the Help File instructions on inserting
page breaks and such I spent a frustrating half hour with my headers
and footers dissapearing altogether, the header reappearing on the
second page, a spare page appearing at the end of the file. You name
it, it happened.
The instruction are as follows:-
To set up different headers or footers for odd and even pages ? or for
a different first page ? insert a manual page break in the one-page
template, create the headers or footers you want, and then delete the
page break. Then create a document based on the template. The headers
and footers will appear when the document becomes more than one page.
Eventually I abandoned this and looked around a bit. On the menu
File
Page Setup
Layout
there is an option to produce a different first page header/footer. I
clicked that on and that sorted the problem.
Why the help file doesn't just say that I don't know. I wish that it

Opening Word
I have two problems when I open the program. (Word 2003). The first is that
it won't open full window. I drag it to the maximum length and width but the
next time it still won't open full window.
The second problem is that it always opens with the Task Pane open on the
right. I do not want the task pane there when I open the program.

Maybe I should explane more. I have the form its a word document. But in
all the boxes that are like big enough for 6 lines If I type in more then
one line the form expands downward making the bottom off the page. Like
there is a box for my name and address. I can only type one line in. If I
hit the enter key the whole form gets bigger.

Another problem.
When I click on the 'blank new file" toolbar button, I get a page that
resemble a sheet on notebook paper with evenly spaced lines. I have
searched for about an hour and I can't figure out how to return my "dot.com"
