I have written a program that creates a document.
When I try to open the document with my MSWord (OfficeXP) it is displayed
correctly.
But when I open the same document at my friends computer, the format becomes
bad. (Lines that are supposed to be on page 1, go to page 2)

The reason is that "File->Page Setup->Paper->Height" value is different in
my Word application. (29,7 cm at my computer, whereas 27,4 cm at my
friend's)

Why are these values different in Word applications?
What is the default values ?

Values generally come from the printer driver - the printable areas vary
between printer models and possibly driver versions.

or not you have included any service pack updates.

This is not unexpected (see
http://www.mvps.org/word/FAQs/Formatting/TextReflow.htm) but can be reduced
by shrewd formatting.

Sounds to me that one of you has their printer set for A4 (29.7cm) whilst
the other of you has it set for Letter (especially if that should have
stated 27,94 rather than 27,4cm).

This could have happened if each of you had different Windows language
settings at the time of installation. US/Canada -> Letter, elsewhere -> A4.
