    - Table emergency I'm picking up on a document someone else started, which is a form in tables. There are times when I'd like for the cell margins to be 0 all around instead of the default 0.08 on the right and left. No matter how many times I go into the box and change it, it goes right back to the default. I'm sure there's a way to change this default, but I don't have time to pursue it now and hope someone has the answer at their fingertips. Thanks for this and all of your help.     - forms help - drop down boxes I've created a form and am having trouble getting the drop-down boxes to behave like I want them too. The user of the form should select an item from the drop down box, but I want the result to be a code for the item. So, for example, if the user chooses the item "black," once he/she tabs out of the field, the code "blk" should populate that field. This will be true of most of the drop down boxes in my form. I do not want to use the code itself in the drop down list, because in most cases, the correlation will not be this simple. I've tried a macro to accomplish this, and though the behavior is correct, once the user moves out of the field, the result code (i.e. "blk") is added to the list of available items in the drop down box.     - Can't indent twice! We are struggling with the changeover to Word 2000, made necessary because with our new network software WordPerfect kept crashing. In creating legal documents it is important to keep manual control of numbering and lettering. This is because we are often quoting from the middle of other documents, and we often have to start with (say) subparagraph "r", skip to "t", and go on to sub-subparagraph (iii), etc. I see that to indent after a number or letter, you type the number or letter, hit TAB, then CTRL+T (hanging indent), and type. The text wraps around and you get an evenly indented paragraph after the letter number. For example: 2. Blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blha blha blha alah alhaal bla ha lh. 3. Blah lahg lha a blh ablh a blh blah blah blh alh l alh lha lha lah . etc. But this doesn't work if you want to indent twice. What I want is: 3. a. Blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah b. blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah After hitting the TAB after "a.", I hit CTRL+T -- but then the "a" gets indented too. Further, only the first line indents twice -- the text then wraps back to the first indent. Hitting CTRL+M is even worse because the "3" gets indented as well. Making a doubly indented paragraph is a routine, everday task, and I assume the solution must be simple too. How do I get it to indent twice without indenting the number and letter too?     - Footnote problem I used to have Word 2000. In it, when I pointed mouse to a footnote insertion (a superscript number in a text), a small flag and then the footnote text would appear in a small window, which was quite a convenience. I use switch between English and Cyrillic keyboards, which worked fine for some time in all applications - Word, Outlook Express, etc..     - Using Markup I last used Markup on Word 2000. I just tried Markup on Word 2003 and am having problems. As I recalled, the Word 2000 enabled me to specify the color of changes. I didn't find this option either in Tools | Track Changes or View | Market or on the Toolbar. In addition, one document I edited showed the familiar strikeouts and additions. Another document had a number of small balloons on the right detailing what had been added or struck out. I have no idea how either was done. Finally, a marked up document someone else sent me refuses to "accept changes" - that is, nothing happened. I found the on-line help of Word Help to be very slow and of little help.     - Disk Full error (when it's not) -- what caused this I use WORD '97. Today, whule working on a document, I suddenly got a pop-up that kept saying something like it can't make a backup file. When I tried to save the .doc it kept saying disk full, close all open programs, etc. I tried to save it on a floppy, a CD, and a flash drive and I kept getting the same message. For what it is worth the .doc did have a number of images in it (equations from Math Type), but I've often had MANY more, so I don't know if that is relevant. The .doc was about 7 pages when this suddenly happened. Anyway, I was able to save the day by opening a different version of WORD (I think WORD 2002) that I happened to have on my disk (I just prefer WORD 97). I then copied the file to the newer version of WORD and it saved the file without problems. I then rebooted my machine, opened WORD 97, and it was able to open the file. I continued working on the file and everything went normally including saving the file. ANY IDEAS ON WHAT WENT WRONG. It was getting to be quite a concern as all my options were going down the tubes until I thought of opening up the newer version of WORD. I just don't want it to happen again.     - Hyperlinks in Word We are using hyperlinks in Word documents on our network. When someone copies the document to make a change, the hyperlink changes to the directory where they copied the files. It appears to be using relative addressing. If the original is say "G:\test.doc" and has a hyperlink to "G:\test.xls", when they copy "G:\test.doc" to "M:\test.doc" the hyperlink changes to "M:\test.xls" which does not exist.     - How do we make our macros "signed"? I ran across a new default, the security level at this new contract is set for high. Everywhere I've been up till now, it's been medium, so I'd never run into problem of macros not working until re-setting the security level. Since this is the case, and since I'm creating Word documents and spreadsheets with macros to share with other colleagues, thought it might be prodent to look into that "signed" business or whatever it's called.     - Inserted OLE objects only show as icons Hi, I am using Word 2003 on W2KSP4. Whenever I insert an OLE object of file type PNG, GIF, JPG, BMP or PDF, it displays as an icon rather than showing the object itself, even though the "Display as icon" check box is clear. This doesn't happen when I insert a Word or Excel object. Any idea what's going on? I tried changing the file associations, but that didn't work either. I've tried the following combinations: PDF: Acrobat PNG, GIF and JPG: IE, Photoshop, PaintShop Pro BMP: PaintShop Pro, Paint I have all these programs installed. When I double-click the inserted icon it opens the expected program in each case, but I can only ever get it to display the icon not the graphic (or PDF page) itself. I tried "create new" using Paint. This lets me create my own picture, but does not let me open the existing BMP even though it is associated with Paint (double-clicking the file in Explorer opens Paint). The same problem occurs when I insert objects into FrameMaker, so the problem is not related to Word itself, but something in my system. Any help appreciated. There is no way to adjust the SIZE of the cursor, but if it has suddenly
gone small on you, try changing the zoom to 500% and back.
