    - "Print what" default in Word 2007 I've recently converted to Vista, which came with Word 2007. When I want to print a document in Word 2007, the default "Print what" option reads "Document showing markup." Every time I wish to print, I have to reset this to "Document".     - Problems with what I believe are stray spaces with word HISTORY: About 18 months ago I was doing some testing on my PC for chinese language support, which screwed up quite a few things and I quickly removed. HOWEVER, one of the things that appears to have stuck, I "assume" from this event, is that when I use the ' or " characters in Word (or outlook in non-text mode) I get a whopping big space either before or after the single or double quote mark - depending on opening/closing I had thought that re-installing word may have fixed it 12 months ago --> no joy. I have recently upgraded to Word 2007 (another story!!) and I still have this strange behaviour! So, after all this time I'm hopeful that someone can point me in the right direction to get things "back to normal English" (you may notice I tend to quote words a bit, so this is obviously VERY ANNOYING!)     - Stop selecting whole line when select first character? Hi, I can select the 2nd character in a line by itself, but if I try to select just the 1st character in the line, Word "helpfully" selects the entire line.     - Why can't a 97-2003 version file be opened in Word 2003? I have both Word 2003 and 2007 installed on my computer because I'm teaching both versions. I also have the conversion pack installed. When I'm in Word 2007 and save a document as a 97-2003 format, my colleagues who have only Word 2003 cannot open it. Why?     - Lines across the page A friend who has no computer savvy brings roughly typed documents to me to be 'tidied up'. Inevitably there are horizontal lines across the full width of the text area (in print view) and do what I will I cannot shift them.     - Merging documents I have three documents based on three separate templates. I would now like to merge them into one document so that I can make a Table of Contents. Unfortunately, some of the styles are not formatted the same way, e.g. Heading 3, Heading 4, ...etc are not the same in Template 1 and Template 3.     - Using Send To from a word document uses wrong Sent Items folder Word 2007 and Outlook 2007. My default mail account in Outlook is IMAP. If I send a document as an attachment via email from within Word 2007, it sends via the default mail account, but puts the sent item into the Sent Items Folder in Personal Files, NOT the Sent folder in the IMAP folder list.     - page numbering in footers I'm running Word 2003 SP2. I use page setup to check that page one of my document gets a different footer than the other sections. I insert the traditional page number into a footer (using numbering, not a text box) and want a "1" to print on page two and so one. I use the format numbering button on the footer bar, select "start with 1" and click ok. The document snaps to the footer on page one (blank). When I scroll back to page 2, the numbering remains unchanged at "2". Nothing I try can make that number into a 1. I can increase the number, though.     - Changing a Filename in Header which changes when the document is renamed Hi, I was recently sent a Word document which has the filename in the header. When I saved the document under a different name, the name in the header instantly changed so as to reflect the "new" document name. How can I set up a document to do this snazzy little trick?     - Word 2007 Normal template question Hi, I am running MS Office 2007 on a PC with XP. I am unable to alter the default template - normal.dotm - I want to have the default settings for word to be A4 page size and Times new Roman font. I cannot find (using the XP search function) an file called normal.dotm. anywhere on my PC - there are lots of templates in C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Templates\1033, but not the default template. I've tried making a new template with the required format, but wherever I place it it never opens - I alwa=ys get a new document that is set as Letter and Calibri(body).     - Moving csv. database into Merge Mail When I was with a company that went bankrupt, I bought a database file with info on 2300 businesses in my area, including addresses. It is in csv. which the tech guy told was a good general format to be compatible with various office applications. I am trying to get it (an edited version) into Merge Mail.     - Default setting for paste in Word 2003 I need to cut and paste a lot of text from one doc to another. Each time I do it (Ctrl C + Ctrl V), a popup is displayed asking me whether I want to match the destinatinon format.     - In 2007, no good way to paste paragraphs In Word 2000, I used to be able to paste a paragraph pretty much anywhere (except inside a table) and have it retain its formatting so long as I captured the paragraph mark when I did the cut/copy. In Word 2007, this is another in the long list of features that have been crippled. It has something to do with lists, but I thin there are problems in other areas as well. It is no longer possible to copy a normal paragraph in the middle of a list or just before a heading if that heading has list numbering. Suppose I have a simple list: * item 1 * item 2 * item 3 I cannot paste a paragraph in between item 1 and 2 with a simple Ctrl-V. There are three popssible places for the insertion point and none of them work. 1. In Word 2000, I could place the insertion point at the start of the paragraph that I wanted insert the text before. In 2007, this causes the new test to become a new item in the list. 2. If I move the inswrtion point back one step so that all of the list dingbats are highlighted (a position that did not exist in 2000), idiotic things happen. The new text becomes a list item and the following paragraph assumes the formatting of the inserted text and is no longer a list item. Whoever thought that one up should be sentenced to 5-10 at hard labor or 6 months on the tech support line. 3. If I place the insertion point at the end of the previous paragraph (just before the paragraph mark), then the new text is concatenated to that paragraph, which assumes the formatting of the inserted text and drops out of the list, and a new emply list item is added. I think this is what happened in 2000 and makes sense. Bottom line, you can't get there from here. Kudos to the Word developers. Idiots. -- Office 2007 Pro on WinXP Tag: csocc Tag: 102770

    - Footers in Word 2007 Hello, I'm working in a lengthy manual, using mirror margins so that the document has 2" of border on the outside of each portrait page. The doc will be printed front and back. My problem is that I am unsure how to format the footers. Currently, I am using first page, odd and even footers. Talk about a complicated doc! Additionally, the Appendix has landscape documents as well. The issues I am having are these: 1. The front matter is paginated with Roman numerals. They are not appearing sequentially--why? 2. The chapters each have an intro page (odd-numbered) and a beginning page (also odd-numbered). Word is not numbering any of these sections. I am having to go in and manually number. How do I force it to number? 3. Each footer must contain a graphic jpeg of the company's logo. Wow. Word footers sure don't like that arrangement with copyright text I have.     - Formatting the Index in a Word doc using VB I am using VB script to open a word document and populate it with stuff from an Access Database. I have an Index at the back of the document.
