I scanned a document as 'editable text' and opened it in word. When I try to
edit it, it turns into an object with handles and I cannot edit it. Is there a
way to make it into editible text. It was scanned on a HP 5500c scanner and I
am working on a Win XP computer with Word from Office 2003.

Hi Joy,

It sounds like you've only gotten half way there, and the scanner has
returned a bitmap. If so, you'll need to process the bitmap through some OCR
software to extract the text for editing.

Cheers

Joy

Try using the Office Document Scanning tool (found under Microsoft Office,
Microsoft Office Tools). This will scan with the connected scanner and OCR
it ready for transfer to any Office application.
