With the cursor anywhere in the paragraph, simply select the new style. Or
if you want to create a new style, edit the paragraph to look as you want,
then go to Format, Style and select NEW, provide the name and chose the
style to follow it, check the Add to Template box and press OK. You now have
a new style that you can apply at any time.

Terry has given you some possible pointers. If you're saying what I think
you're saying, and you have Word 2002 or 2003, select the paragraph that is
formatted the way you want the given style to be. Then click the arrow
beside the target style in the Styles and Formatting task pane and choose
"Update to Match Selection."
