Copy/paste sans formatting
The default in Word is to paste with the format of the copied text,
rather than the format of where the text is being inserted. I hate
that, especially when pasting into corporate templates where the
layout has to be just so. I either have to use:
Edit -> paste special -> unformatted text
or paste the text, then apply the right formatting. But this is
painful as Word starts to add its own ideas on styles to my styles menu
based on the pasted text. To ease my pain, I have created a small
macro that uses pasteUnformatted. However, now I get the "your
document contains macros..." warning whenever I open Word documents.
But what I would *really* like to do is turn off the "feature" in Word
that makes pasteFormatted the default. Is this possible?
As a related question, I use Powerpoint to create drawings, then past
them into Word. By default, Word makes them an object, which I hate -
I just want a picture. So I tell it to paste as picture.
But now Word ignores my default for pasting pictures, which is "inline
with paragraph".
How can I tell Word not to paste objects, just pictures, *and* use my
default for pasting - i.e. inline?

Word 2000 Hyperlink Field Codes
Hi,
I'm doing a case study for some course work. It involves integrating Word into a VB.Net app which I have achieved.
There is one slight problem because the documents that the system is supposed to use uses hyperlinks to link the various word files together.
I've basically got word to open up with a file that is selected by the user via the VB.Net program. When you click on the hyperlinks within the documents, Word opens the link in a new word window, and jumps out of the application.
Researching this, I've found that in Word 2003, you can tell the document to open up the selected file within the 'parent' window my changing the Hyperlinks Field Codes. The Microsoft article suggested using:
{Hyperlink "<file>" \t"_self[or _parent]"}
Is this possible within Word 2000? If not, is there an alternative?
Neil.

I have word 2002 on XP. I can insert a picture (usually a jpeg file) okay,

top of the page. I can move the picture back down the page, but it has to be
2 or 3 cms below the header, and when I try to move it up towards the top of

sudden jump over the page with part of the picture on the page and part in

Add formatting to auto-correct?
Word 2K3
Is there a way to put formatting into an auto-correct entry.
Specifically, I want an elipsis to automatically include (I'm not sure what
they're called) the special "spaces" that won't be separated. (They're
created by <ctrl><shift><space>, and that way the three periods in the
elipsis won't separate at the end of a line.)
Right now, I have to do that manually, and I'd like to be able to his
period, space, period, space, period. (Yes, I know I don't need spaces
between the dots, but I don't like the way that looks.)
Many thanks.

Another nice thing M/W Windows denies users is the

Lesson Learned re File Cleanup Utilities
Lesson learned:
A while back I posted a problem with my User Data not being
saved. Specifically, I had to reenter my return address
every time I used the envelope tool. I was advised that it
was a registry corruption problem.
Well, I finally solved the real problem. I was using one of
the popular file/tracks cleanup utilites (CrapCleaner). One
of the options was to cleanup tracks from MS Office 2003.
After I deselected this option, I no longer had the problem
of my return address disappearing! I post this in case

cannot modify footer in word doc
thx for the hints. the problem is not related to the size of the
footer margin, there is sufficient space.
i have played around a bit more and found that it is apparently
related to the usage of sections (i assume that the correct english
term for the german term "Abschnitt") and the feature "hdr/ftr
different on first page". i can make the footer appear on the first
page of the second section by tinkering with the configuration, but
never the intended appearance (footer on all pages of 2nd section with
first one different).
this sounds a little like document corruption. the instructions for

Merge Query
I wonder if anyone can help? I am using Microsoft word and the Tools
Merging options.
I have merged a large number of documents and am editing each one now
individually. For the address block I merged Company Name | Address 1 |
Address 2 - however many of my database entries do not have an Address 1
entry, eg
Company: Adrian Architect
Address 1: 45 Rose Road
Address 2: Auckland
So I have many entries that have only appeared as perhaps:
Company : Adrian Architect
Address 1:
Address 2: Auckland
Consequently when I create the merge document the address appears as:
Adrian Architect
Auckland
Useless!!!
I don't want to go to the trouble to print these out as they are useless
merged letters and yet I don't want to have to spend the time sifting
through each entry and extracting all these entries manually.
Is there a way these entries can be extracted (or at least just marked) so
that I don't print them or can put them in a separate document/folder of
their own?
Thanks in advance for any help with this.

Basic macros query - where are they assigned to?
I'm sure that the answer to this must be staring me in the face, but I'm
afraid I just can't find it.
In the time I've been trying to get to grips with Word 2000, I've created
several very basic macros, which I've assigned to particular combinations of
keys. In many cases, I've forgotten exactly which keys produce which
macros - how do I find out?
If I go to Tools/Macro/Macros I get a list which looks like this:
Macro 1
Macro 10
Macro 11
Macro 12
and so on. If I highlight any one of these and press Edit, I get a screen
which lists the commands for all the macros (separated by horizontal rules)
and I can - not unnaturally - edit them. But where in all this does it tell
me which keys each macro has been assigned to?
Thanks very much!
