    - Pulldown Menus Problem I'm using Office 2003 on WinXP Pro SP2 + all Updates that I know of. This started about 4 weeks ago and the problem is that the checkbox for 'Show full menus all the time' keeps clearing itself when the program is closed (Word, Publisher and Outlook 2003). I thought it might have to do with CCleaner, even though I had 'de-clicked' Office completely. I have since done a reformat and clean install of all the usual programs, except CCleaner and I still have the problem.     - Inserting a template into a word .doc I do medical transcribing and need to keep inserting different templates into the same document. When I first open the "new" blank document I set the font and font size, then want to insert a template so I can fill in the blanks, but the font and font size do not look the same even though when I click on the letter and look up top to see what size the font is it says Arial 11. If I open the template and start typing then I cannot re-open it again for another dictation. I read somewhere the simple route is best in Word. So, simply I need to send one whole document for the day with a bunch of different doctors that each have their own "template" of the way they want their reports typed and I don't want to have to re-type each set of headings, just insert a template or whatever, and fill in the blanks! I see in the Character Map for Arial, the font I always use, that the infinity sign is U+221E No matter what I try, I do not succeed in Word using U+221E.     - fix a field length? please help Hello, I have a table in a document with about 6 rows. It is more like a form, where there is a label and the user of this document can enter the value next to that particular label in each of the rows. Now, I need to fix the field length of one of the rows to 2000 characters. I thought that the best way to do this would be to insert a textbox in the 'value' column of that field. I used the Drawing Toolbar to insert a textbox. I have one main problem here. When I type in the text, it either goes out of the range or is displayed vertically. I have the following combinations in the Properties for each of those: 1. The text which I input into the textbox goes out of the range (which means, it goes outside of my table and outside of the word document. The combinations: Autosize: False Integral Height: True MultiLine: True SelectionMargin: False WordWrap: True 2. The text is entered vertically. However, when I print this document, a 2nd blank page always gets printed along with the original page. To continue reading the next day where I stopped reading today, I would like to mark the place of my latest reading, i.e. set a bookmark.     - Am I getting good tech advice about Word / Office being corrupted? In my small business office, I have a 2-node p2p network. We have a Dell workstation and a Dell notebook. Both were purchased last summer and are running Win XP Pro and Office 2007 Pro. I purchased a tech support contract with a local company. They provide remote support through a program they installed on our machines. They manage updates to Windows & Office, backup to USB drives, antivirus, and other services. They ordered both machines and did the initial installation of the OS and Office. The workstation is used by my assistant. She has not installed anything other than our business software (Quickbooks, TimeSlips, and Time Matters). I have the notebook. I have installed some other software, but no games or questionable (non-commercial) software. Prior to last summer, we had leased our computers from a different company who also provided tech support. We had two machines (both from HP) running Win 2K and Office 2000. We were running mostly the same applications. We had those machines for 5-6 years and almost no problems. Since upgrading to the new machines and switching tech support companies, we have had a lot of problems. I just got off the phone with one of the techs and I am concerned about what he rold me. I would appreciate any opinions anyone might have. The most recent problem started a few weeks ago. My assistant loaded one of our templates and tried to do a global replace (Ctrl-H), something we do many time a week. Word froze up solid. I had to kill it from the Task Manager. When I called tech support, they said that they had just installed a service release and it had a bug that caused Replace to break. They backed out the service release and everything was fine for awhile. This happened on both machines. The same problem resurfaced just in the workstation 2 days ago. My notebook was fine. The tech remoted in today and tried to fix it. After a couple of hours of work, he said that Office was corrupted. He said he went to Add/Remove programs and tried to do a repair, he got a message that the installation was corrupted. Does this sound plausible? I know I haven't provided enough information to know for sure, but does it sound plausible? I ask because we have had a lot of pesky problems ever since upgrading to these new machines. The machines run much more slowly than the older machines and we have had programs crashing including Word and Outlook. We have had problems where updates did not happen that should have. The video on my notebook screen is very flakey. I can get the screen all broken up in Word pretty much any time I want. Now he wants to reinstall Office, which I presume means that we will lose all of our settings. I guess I'll have to let him go ahead and do that, but if we continue to have problems, I have to believe that these guys don't know what they are doing. They have total control over the machines and they have installed most of the software. If it isn't working, can the fault be anywhere else? Thanks for any comments or suggestions. Frustrated...     - Letter "P" magic Last week I installed and updated Word 2002 and since then the letter "P" keeps spontaneously appearing (now and then) in my word documents for no particular reason that I can comprehend.     - Autocorrect options do not stay same in template I am using Word 2002 I make a template with no Autocorrect feature turned on in it and save it, and test it by creating new documents based on that template and see that every feature of that template is carried over. So far so good. But I come back two days later and use the same template to create a new documentwhen and see that _ALL_ features of Autocorrect have misteriously returned, hence another five minutes of checking all those checkmarks off.     - Word 2007, sudden crash when saving! Hello, I am using Vista Premium with Office Word package, last night i was continueing on a document, but when i tried to save as i do every 5minutes, Word suddenly crashed. I restarted Word and tried to save the backup/repaired document, but it crashed again. I tried to redo the process in Safe-Mode, but still same result. Then i took the backup files from the roaming directory and tried to save the files on my laptop, but still same result! I even tried to copy all the content into a new document, still same! I re-installed the Arial narrow bold font several times just to make sure
that the font file isn't corrupt. I still can't get it to show up as a font
option in Word 2002. How do I solve this problem? I need to use the font
in a Word doc.

Arial narrow bold will not show up as a separate font if you have other members of the Arial narrow family installed (list fonts by
name in detail view in the Windows control panel). It will be used when you apply the bold attribute to Arial narrow within a Word
document.

This is different than a font such as Arial Rounded MT Bold, which will appear as it doesn't have other family members, but is a
standalone in most installations.
