    - complicated table of contents Hello, I have a document I modify each week and send out and when I made the original document I set up a table of contents which was triggered off 2 styles (myheading 1 and myheading 2). The 1st heading did not have any page numbers associated with it but the second heading did. It looked like this: {TOC \T " MYHEADING 1,2, MYHEADING 2,1 " \N "2-2"} And resulted in something like this (heading 1 is centered): Heading 1 Heading 2 ............. 2 Anyway, someone suggested that I somehow add into the table the author of each article. So I am trying to figure out the best way of presenting it and how to get it inserted into the table of contents. I could put the author name in a style of its own to be picked up by the toc. I could potentially put the author after heading 2 (article name) in a smaller type if that is possible or alternatively on a separate line also in a smaller font without a page number associated with it (since that would be covered by heading 2).     - Copy / Paste Please can someone help me, my problem is when I right click on some text and <Copy> then open a word document and <Paste> I get a small blue icon, which looks like a little mobile phone to me. If I click <Paste Special> I get a choice of 'Bitmap' or 'Device Independent Bitmap' and I want text. Know if I <Copy> the text again and go to an already open Word doc.     - Drop down lists in Word 2000 Hi. I will admit to being just a basic user of Word. I now need to get a little bit more involved. I need to create some forms that I will send to the involved people via email. I am in the process of creating a home inspection form. I want to use some drop down lists that give a few choices to choose from. The help system seems to be fairly straightforward. I am in the process of creating a new template. I inserted a drop down list form where I wanted it to be and then put in the various choices. When I hit OK, all I get is a gray box with the first choice in it, which is OK, but there is no down arrow from which to make a different choice if the default choice isn't correct.     - Word 2003 Table Drop down menu defect? I'm running into major problems with Word 2003 doing things all my itself and then hanging up. I'm running Word 2003 on XP Pro. The program frequently and randomly places a non-functioning Table Drop-down menu on the screen (in equally random locations) and nothing inn the Word program works after that. When running multiple windows, the drop down menu often appears when I return to the program even if there is no document in use and it was not there when I went to another application. Also, the screen randomly and all by itself will go to the reading screen (I use print screen) and loses all the tool bars. While hitting ESC will return to the print screen, the tool bars never come back. I have to Ctrl-S and then Ctrl-F4 to get out, and then restart program. I've reinstalled many times, no change. None of my other applications share these problems or similar hang ups. I didn't find anything on this in the Microsoft knowledge base. Can anybody help? Is this a common error? Is there a fix?     - Why I got "Server busy" warning? Hi, I used to use Word 2000, and recently, I frequently got "Server busy" warning when open a dialog such as modify format,print or insert symbol. I tried a lot to eliminate this problem by uninstall and reinstall Office even clear my computer by reinstall the system, but this still frequently happening. When it happening, a message to ask "switch to" or "cancel", but no matter what to chose, it just takes time and I cannot use the dialog. For this reason, I uninstalled the Office 2000 and installed Office 2003, but today this happened again when I tried to insert a symbol.     - Word 2000 problem We have a problem printing to a Epson C45 printer in Win98 from Word 2000. Having spent many minutes on the phone to Epson support here in Australia, it came down to the following: When we are in the document and click on file, print, page setup. When we check the paper size, the only size available is custom and this cannot be added to or changed. Apparently according to the Epson staff member this is the reason we cannot print to the C45.     - Slow documents from network I have two machines recently imaged with XP and part of that image is Office 97 Pro. When the users go to Word, then Open a file from the network, it is soooooo slow. However if the user clicks My computer, the network drive, then the document, it opens fast.     - Help with formatting I know this is a Word newslist but the moderators are so knowledgeable here that I am posing my question here rather than subscribe to another newslist just to ask one question. Maybe someone will help me. I am using MS Outlook from Office XP and have a problem with formatting in the notes section (broad wide field at the bottom half) in both "Tasks" and "Appointments". Sometimes I will paste some text from elsewhere which happens to be double spaced. From then on if I type anything else in that note field I get a double space every time I press enter.     - booklets I hope I can ask my questions without getting too 'wordy'. I want to make a roster that will be printed on 8 1/2 x 11 paper, in landscape design, but done as two pages per sheet, and printed back to back. I can change the paper size to 5.5 x 8.5 or 8.5 x 5.5, but don't know how to set up the rest. When I tred a sample, and printed it, it either printed (portrait) in the center of the 8.5 x 11 paper, and when landscape did the same. The member who did the roster last year, said there was no way to add next members (in alphabetical order) once all the typing was complete and before going to printer with out retyping everything. Ugh! All I can think of now is to do it in portrait, cut off the margins and tape two pages together before copying them. When I did the newsletter several years ago, it was printed on 11 x 17 paper, so I just set up 8.5 x 11 sheets in portrait and then taped the appropriate pages together to get the booklet form, again printing back to back. Bill Dilworth (MS PPT MVP Team) told me that this post belongs somewhere in this newsgroup: I have a word2000 doc with 100 links to slides in ppt files. The links are created as icons. I want to change some of those links. I go to "Edit|Links..." in the doc file and see a list of links. How do I know which line goes with which icon in the doc file? When I click "Change Source" in the "Edit|Links..." box I get a browser that eventually asks for the item number that I want to change to. How do I know what the items numbers of the slides are in the ppt files? I can find out by copying a slide and pasting as a hyperlink into the doc file and then viewing "Field Codes" in the Tools|Options" window.     - Another text box question I have a legal landscape page on which I have placed about 30 text boxes (the bosses insist it be put in Word and not Powerpoint!).     - Make 2003 cool its jets after a crash Is there any way to stop Word 2003 from making such a grand purple fuss after it crashes? In prior versions I could delete the temp-file debris, relaunch, and be back to work in under 30 seconds. Now I must [1] listen to its plaintive whimper about sending an error report, AND [2] endure the pointless (for me) task pane that insists on me confirming that I want to reopen the recovered files. It's like an old lady smothering a kid who's scraped his knee, refusing to let him return to the playground right away. Both of these processes happen quite slowly on my (new and very fast) machine. I can't think of an instance when I *wouldn't* want to reopen what I was working on and get back to business, but I'd rather do it without grandma serving it to me on a doily.     - HTML viewing in Word When I put web links in my word document, I see the web address in the document instead of the name of the site. Thus, I'll have take a look at Fred's web page, and have a link on Fred's, but instead of seeing Fred's, I'll see http://fred.com The same is true for my footers and page numbering. Instead of actually seeing the footer, I'll see {filename/p} and for page number, I'll see {page} on each page. I also get this with using the equation editor. I have tried different views (normal, web, etc.) but this doesn't seem to make a difference. When I go to print preview, all of this looks like it should look.     - Hos do I get bck my "ADD" feature? When I'm typing something and I use a word that is not in the dictionary, the word gets a squiggly line underneath it. In the past I could right click on that word and a box would come up letting me change it to a recommended word or give me the option to "add" it to the dictionary. Now that "add" feature is no longer there. I can see it, but it isn't clickable. Did I do something to eliminate it? How do I get it back? Thanks.     - Quote field I have just discovered MS Word's Quote field. Am I missing something, or is this the most pointless feature ever created? According to the Word help files, it simply inserts the literal text inside the field.     - How to backup/restoreAutocorrect entries from Word 97 to Word 2003? I have used the utility from Steve Rado to backup my word 97 autocorrect entries and that works. I then take it to Word 2003 and perform the restore and it appears to work as in I can see all the entries, but when I go into autocorrect the additions are not there. Am I missing a step somewhere? run spelling & grammar checker whole chunks are not reviewed.

How do I undo this "do not check this section" function?

Ctrl+A to select the entire document, then go to Tools | Language | Set
Language and clear the check box for "Do not check spelling or grammar."

Thanks for your suggestion, Suzanne.
Unfortunately it did not work. I have run into same problem on another
document which is also entirely text. Have re-asked question today, 10 March.
