I remember on word 2003 there was a tool that help you make a summary,
however I was trying to find it on Word 2007 and I can't...

Numbered list problem
Word 2003 being used I am trying to create a numbered list.
First number is 1. I type my text, press enter and get a 2. If I press
Tab, I believe I am supposed to get a. but instead am just getting a 1/2 inch
tab space to the right. Even stranger, if I press Shift + Tab, I get another
1/2 tab to the right.
I have recreated Normal.dot, which did not help.

First letter in emails is capitalized.
How do you stop Word from capitalizing automatically the first letter of an
email address? It happens if the address is the first item on a new line.
It ends up looking like this:
Word@microsoft.com
and I can't figure out how to force the 'W' into lower case.

Margins etc
Something has gone wrong somewhere in my page settings but this isn't
something that I've set before.
Previously when I opened a new blank page, the cursor would be a few lines
down and rules set which I really like. Now, the cursor flashes at the very
top of the page but the margins are still as they where which is good. How
do I set it so the cursor automatically sits a few lines down from the top of
the page?

What is the protocol to make Word 2003 default to the normal

Cheapest way to buy MS Word
I am in the UK. A friend of mine who is also in the UK uses Word 2000
but it doesn't have some features she needs. Things like "Legal
Blackline" and "improved Change Tracking".
What would be the cheapest (legal) way for her to get a more up to date
version of Word?
Amazon UK is showing a price of approx £70 for Word 2007's "Home &
Student Edition" (and £75 reduced from £120 for the same edition of
Office 2007.
Is the Home and Student Edition of Word a reduced function version?

Word 2003 - how to go to the end of a line
Hi there,
I've just upgraded from Windows 2000 to 2003 and when I am typing away, I
want to go to the end of the current line occasionally. In 2000, I tapped
the 'End' key and hey presto, there I was.
Now, in 2003 I can't find a key combination to do it and it is driving me
nuts. I am absolutely sure it is a trivial thing to do but I can't find a
thing about it in help. I can go to the end of the document or I can end an
on-line conversation and many other combinations of the word End but, sadly,
no 'Go to the end of the current line'
Can somebody point me at it please.

Mail Merge from an Exel Database
A little over a year ago I successfully printed labels from an Excel
database on this machine using Office 2003 Word and Excel under XP SP2. I
put the Excel database in My Data Sources and things went very well after a
few false starts and a lot of help from these NG's.
I have another machine that has Word 2003 and Excel 2003 on it but does not
have a My Sources folded on it. It seems that is the key to success. What
do I have to do to that machine in order to have My Data Sources so that I
can mail merge labels. Just creating a folder by that name doesn't seem to
satisfy.

How do I get Word 07 to stop asking if i want to save every docume
I use Word 07 together with another program (one that uses it to print
documents). After Word 07 opens the document and I quickly print it, I close
it immediately. Is there a way to get Word 07 to stop asking me "Would I

Installing MS Office on an external drive?
Is it possible to install MS Office on an external drive (such as
removable hard drive connected through a USB port)? I want to do this
so I can carry the software from one machine to another.
According to my understanding, this should be perfectly legal with
regards to the licensing agreement because all Microsoft wants is that
the software be used only at one machine at a time, which is true for
this scenario. Let me know if my understanding is incorrect.
I do not know whether or not it is technically feasible. If the
software uses files on the external and internal drives in order to
run, then could there be a compatibility issue when the drive is
connected to a machine different than the machine on which it was
originally installed? Let me know if you have used the software in
this way, and the issues, if any, that you faced.

Home Made Letterhead for Fish Companies
I work for seafood companies originating in several different
countries. I have been "creating" letterheads for each of these
companies for the last few years. They each want an image, such as a
salmon, lobster, fishing boat, etc...in their letterhead and I have
always found black and white images to suit each situation. Question
is that I have been placing the image in the header so there is more
room for the letterhead info. One client has to have two different
names, two cell numbers, three home office numbers, two email
addresses and one mailing address. It is top heavy to say the least. I
have perused the templates at MS Online, but they do not fit well as I
have so much info, names, etc...to put in. As well, many of the
letters that I do are sent via email, not being printed out and when
viewing, the header, with the image, is slightly lighter. I know to
read these in Print Preview, but not everyone that I send email to are
very great with computers, salmon, yes, not this kind of stuff. Any
suggestions that would help me do this better or tricks of the trade
would be appreciated. I come to this site everyday and look through

What property makes a table lose its' "adjustability?
Sometimes I'm working with a table and I try to manually adjust the width and
height of a table, and I'm able to do so by hovering the mouse pointer until
it forms 2 parallel lines with tiny arrows. But there are times when I do
the same thing and the row line or column line just snaps back to its'

the completion of work tasks. The template has a button on it that ads the
user in printing out other attachments that are always printed when
instruction sheets are printed. For the most part this template has worked
great and has not resulted in any complications until now. Some of the
instructions that have been written have overflowen to 2 or more pages and
the current button prints the current page with the attached sheets but
neglects the remaining pages. So now the user has to go to Page 2 and so on
and press the button again on those pages to print the pages out which
results in the attached pages being printed once again.
Is there a way to code this button first of all so it only appears on page
one of the document, and that it can understand that if there is more then
one page within this document that those pages will be printed also along
with only one copy of the attached files?

Word 2007: Clip Art as watermark?
Hello,
Just wondering if it's possible to use a clipart picture for a watermark in
2007 like you could in previous versions. Can it be done, or am I limited to
the text watermarks and pictures (not from the Clip Art Gallery) accessible
through the Printed Watermark dialog box? Or must I insert the Clip Art,
change it's wrapping to Behind Text and then experiment with the brightness
and contrast commands? I'm hoping there's a more streamlined way.

crazy symbols
when i open a new document in Word, there is the paragraph symbol, which i
can not delete. When i start typing, it puts in symbols everytime I touch the

I am using a table to keep the document in sections - I have also created
two indexes (front & back) to reflect the headings - originally I defined
the headings style as "Heading 1" so i can include this in my indexes
My problem/frustration is that without warning all the styles seem to
change to 'Char1' - They dont appear any different but it will not let me
change the style back to anything else - everything in the document is
'char1'
I spent the whole of today creating a brand new blank document - copied all
the text into notepad (only way to flush it out) - then copied it to the
blank document as 'normal' text - copy/pasted all the pictures back in -
reset all the bulleted text (one-by-one) - reset all the titles
(one-by-one) - created two new indexes - and now all the styles have
evaporated again - grrrrrrrrrrr!

Qwestion about how MS word sees tables.
I you create a table 5 columns and 6 rows, and then use the tables and
borders function to erase all the horizontal lines in the first column, and
erase (inrow 1) columns 2,3 and 4 .....does MS word act as if the rows and
columns were never erased?
I ask this because in trying to use the functions Distribute Rows evenly and
Distribute columns evenly, I can use the former but not the latter, when I
select the entire table.
The error message I get is: Word cannot distruibute the selected columns.
When the selection contains cells that extend across more than one row, the
number of columns selected must be the same for all rows in the selection.

Since getting my new computer, I have been unable to set the default
font for my envelopes. Every time I do one, I type in the name and
address, then Options, address font, hit DEFAULT, get confirmation that
everything done on the .dot I am using will be as I wish, then Options,

ain't! Can someone point out what I might be doing wrong.
FWIW, I am using Windows XP and Office 2002 on a new computer. When I
set it up, I chose an enormous number of foreign language capabilities,
but now regret that I have a font choice for Arabic and Japanese,
because those are the least likely to be used.
