    - Trying to remove a "watermark"? First of all, thank you ahead of time for any help you can give me. I use MS Word 2000 and Internet Explorer. In the Subject, I put quotes around watemark but I am not actually sure my problem is a watermark. When I use my Word software, the words "Top Secret" appear across the front of my printed page. The previous owner put it there, but I don't know how, i.e., if its an imported graphic, from the drawing toolbar or WordArt toolbar. In Help it did tell me to try to delete from Headers/Footers, but that does not work, at least not for me.:( Thank you again. I am job hunting and can't even print out my resume!! Helen L.     - keyboard and cursor control I have a Fujitsu-Siemens B-2154 B-series Lifebook and on the keyboard when I press Shift 1, instead of an & I am getting a !.     - Copy/paste in Word 2002 I recently got a new computer with Word 2002 - somewhat different than 97 on my old one. My question - I am having trouble copying from another application into Word - unless I have already launched Word, I can't paste text that I have copied onto the clipboard. I need to open Word and THEN copy the text in order to be able to paste it into the Word doc.     - Viewing Page Margin Area While reading the MVP FAQ site article called "Ruler of all you survey", I found out that you can shift the viewable portion of the ruler to the left (showing more of the dark area on the left that represents the page margin) by pressing the shift key and clicking the right arrow on the horizontal scroll bar. This has the unexpected affect of shifting all the text on the screen to the right (so it will stay under the white, "text area" of the ruler. I like this new view. At least, I would like to use it for a while and see how that works. Is there any way to force all word documents to open this way?     - MathType crashes Word XP I installed a trial of MathType as a way to easily add and reference equation numbers in a document I'm working on. I works well, but I've had it installed less than 24 hours and twice Word has "encountered a problem and has to close". The recovered file contains "repairs" in which equations have been converter to pictures (not very convenient for editing). I went to Design Sciences web site (support) and apparently this is a very, very common problem, which they claim is caused by Word - not their software. I'm using Word XP/2002, but this apparently has been around for previous versions also. My questions are: 1. Does anyone know if this is still an issue with Word 2003? Did MS fix whatever they needed to stop the crashes? If so, I might upgrade. 2. Does Word 2003 have better tools for adding and referencing equation numbers? This is the main reason I went to MathType, and with Word 2002 it was ackward to do. 3. Are there any other products like MathType that do equations, but are more stable? Thanks for any help.     - Word Document Size Increase Does anyone know the reason that a 5MB word document would jump to 13MB document after a few minor changes? The file was originall around 13MB. When I first saved the doc to my desktop it went fro 13MB to around 5MB. ???? I did a few minor edits and saved after eac one to monitor the size. It was staying around 5MB for a while but al of a sudden it jumped to 13MB! There are a few screenshots within th document, however they are all .gif's. Hi I'm creating a Fax template and we would like a little row of chec boxes for the user to click into prior to sending the fax (i.e. pleas respond, for review etc.) I've got the forms toolbar up, I've put the checkbox on the fax sheet now I'm stuck!!     - Paste as image not text When I cut text from any document containing text, open Word and the paste in word, a image appears that looks like a little blue and yellow button. Here it is (This is a small image, hopefully it wont mess your readers up... Sorry if it does) If I try Paste Special, my options are limited to Bitmap or Device Independent Bitmap with the latter being the default. I have also tried Ctrl+V and Shift+Insert and the same thing happens. The issues clears up if I copy the same text again from the source and then paste it again. If I shut down Word and restart, the same things happens again until I copy the text again and try pasting it a second time. Why does Word default to pasting as a bitmap instead of text.? This does NOT happen in Excel or Access, only Word.     - Word XP/2002/2003 Would someone please take a moment to explain why, in the styles task pane of later Word versions, the option to "Update to match selection" is sometimes grayed out? I got some great info about configuring styles options (from S. Barnhill--thanks Suzanne), but I still would like to know why this option is grayed out when I right-click a style name, and what I can do to get around it. On the fly and on others' computers, I don't always want to change their settings in tools | options (even if this would fix it). The only option I've researched is whether the style "types" are incompatible (i.e., char vs. par), but I think it happens to me even when those are the same. Thank you all so much.     - Strange Wrod icon behavior I have two different icons (somehow) in the left side of the taskbar, next to the start button. One of them work fine and its smart tag says "Mic. Office Word 2003". The other one is very strange. When I hit it, I can a dialog box saying that Windows in installing Word, and it takes much longer to start Word. The smart tag says "Description: Microsoft Office Word." I can' t delete this icon since trying to do so threatens to delete the program itself. That's what I'm warned about. What's going on?     - Disabling change tracking once and for all Is there a way to remove the change tracking features from Word 2k3? I will never have any need for them and have them turned off by default, but sometimes tracked changes will reappear in a file sent from somebody else. Today I recorded a macro on 3 machines with Word 2002 that pasted unformatted text at the cursor (Paste Special | Unformatted Text) and assigned it a shortcut key. I did exactly the same thing on a machine with Word 2003 and it wouldn't work - looking at the code it is only recording a straight paste. I did it over and over and in the end I just wrote the right code in myself, using the code from one of the other machines and it works fine.     - Wheel mouse - wheel won't scroll Word 95 documents I have two computers - a desktop running Windows 98SE and a Toshiba Laptop running Windows XP Professional. Both machines have Word 95 installed. The laptop also has Word 2002. On the Windows 98SE machine, my wheel mouse wheel scrolls Word 95 documents without any problem. On my laptop, my wheel mouse wheel scrolls Word 2002 documents without any problem, but not Word 95 documents. The laptop has one of those touch pads, which I hate to use. I bought an HP optical USB Mouse, and I installed it on the laptop. For a while, the wheel mouse wheel scrolled Word 95 documents properly, but I found that if I powered off the laptop, when I started it up again, the ability to scroll Word 95 documents via wheel was gone. I also found that the HP mouse driver was no longer present in the mouse region of the control panel. In effect, I had to reinstall the HP mouse driver every time I booted from power off in order to have it functioning and be able to scroll Word 95 documents via wheel. When the HP mouse driver was functioning, there was a place in its dialogs that provided some fix for problems scrolling Microsoft Word documents by wheel. I forget the exact label, but it cured the problem until the next power off. I had conversations with Toshiba tech support, but they said that the HP driver was not supported by the machine, and that when it boots up, XP would replace the HP driver with its generic mouse driver. My calls to HP tech support were met with no solution. All this time, I had been using a Microsoft Optical USB wheel mouse on my desktop Windows 98SE machine. So I switched the two mice. The HP mouse works fine on the desktop machine, with no problem in scrolling Word 95 documents via wheel. The Microsoft mouse is now on the laptop. I installed a freshly downloaded Microsoft Intellipoint 5.0 driver on the laptop, and that driver stays installed even when I power the laptop down and then start it up again. However, just as with the HP mouse, the wheel will not scroll Word 95 documents. Furthermore, there is nothing on the Intellipoint dialog or its help file that alludes to any such issue.
