    - standard toolbar messed up Dear all, The standard toolbar on my pc has disappeared, even when the toolbar is ticked under View-toolbars it is not there. The toolbar is not on the same line as any other toolbar. Resetting the toolbar has no effect. Even the little box that appears when one makes a customised toolbar has gone.     - Tables -- one row to a page I have a customer for whom I do a report that contains a large table--three columns, but sometimes 5 rows, sometimes 100. And the third column has to be totaled. No problem there. But sometimes she requires that each row of the table be on its own page. This came up for the first time since I've been using Word, and I accomplished it by putting my cursor in each row and hitting Control-Shift to insert a hard page break. But my formula result at the bottom right cell of the table turned into an error message: "Table Index Cannot Be Zero." I entered the formula and tried again, with the same results. I also notice that there is some sort of spacer at the top of each page before the table row. So obviously the way I chose to put one row on each page doesn't work very well, and Word is treating each page as its own table. Can you tell me the best way to put each row on a page of its own?     - Cannot read text with .wps extension Created some text documents in a PC running Windows XP Home. It has Microsoft Works 6.0 installed. All the text documents created in this PC have a .wps extension. Trying to copy info (using a floppy disk) to another PC running Windows 95C. It has Microsoft Works 4.5 as well as Microsoft Word 2000. Every time an attempt is made to use either Microsoft Word or Microsoft Works to read any of the documents, all that comes up is a group of small squares and symbols. Absolutely nothing legible.     - Word won't open! Would appreciate if anyone can advise me: I am using a winXP machine with Office2000 installed. One day, every time I opened Word a 'This program has to close...' window came up and Word would shut down. Having researched the problem on the web I am aware of the 'renaming normal.dot' tactic, but running a search does not find any instances of normal.dot. I then tried running the command 'winword /a' which successfully opened Word, but as soon as I try to access any of the menus I get the same problem. I have deleted the 'data' key from the registry that is advised on some sites but no improvement. If I try to repair Word the machine tries to open windows installer but then fails. I have also uninstalled and reinstalled Office, but still no good. Does anyone know what I can do to fix the problem without resorting to formatting the drive and starting again.     - Word Index to PDF Hello, I'm using Word 2000, Windows 2000 Pro, and Acrobat 5.0. I'm converting a 300+ page Word .doc (2058 kb) to PDF using the "Acrobat|Convert to Adobe PDF" menu selection. Question 1: What is the direct way to create a PDF with linked index entries form a Word .doc? Question 2: In case the answer to question 1 is "No way exists, as everybody knows," then I ask, is it not remarkable that Word index entries are not automatically linked?! Question 3: Can I at least streamline the conversion process so the Word index tags don't fill the PDF with empty calories? (Elaboration follows.) When converting a Word .doc full of index tags to PDF, how do I streamline the process to minimize the PDF filesize? It seems to me that the Word index tags are hard for Acrobat to digest. After I add the index tags, the conversion takes much longer and produces a much bigger file. Currently, I've indexed about 1/4th of the .doc and the PDF is 5101 kb. So the Word .doc with index tags results in a PDF twice the size of one without index tags, yet the fatter PDF doesn't offer anything more except a few-page index...correct? I also converted the doc via printing to the acrobat printer driver and the distiller. These methods produce a PDF of about 1500 kb, almost instantly, and have everything (I think) the 5101 kb PDF has except TOC links. Correct?     - text up side down - possible? I have designed a card, consisting of an A4 paper, folded twice first vertically and then horizontally. So I have 4 'quarters'. I have text in the lower left quarter and in the lower right quarter. I have an image on the upper left quarter, and it is an image turned up side down. Everything works out OK so far and has the required orientation. Now I wanted to put some text under the (up side down) image on the upper left quarter. So the text has to be up side down too. Couldn't find how to do this. Have a access database with a table that has 3 fields; class name,start date, end date. What I would like to do is produce a letter that will say something like.     - XP can't ping router? This is a bit long, so I apologize, but I am at a complete loss! Nutshell situation: added a new harddrive to my computer, chkdsk ran on original dirve, and deleted system files. Had to do a complete new install of Win XP Pro. The problems begin. 1. I have a DLink DI704P router connected to a wireless access point and DSL modem. The wireless network works fine. 2. This computer is being assigned an IP/DSN by the router (192.168.0.1), subnet 255.255.255.0. 3. I cannot ping router from this computer (timeout error). 4. I can ping this computer address (local loop?) and everything is fine (192.168.0.102 assigned by DHCP). 5. I have reset the TCP/IP stack using the NETSH command. 6. I have purged the ARP using NETSH. 7. I have reinstalled Windows on the origianl drive, same problem. 8. I have installed Windows fresh on the new drive, same problem. 9. I have updated NIC drivers, same problem. 10. I have replaced the NIC board with new one, same problem. 11. I have moved NIC to new PCI slot, same problem. 12. I have tested cable and router connection on another computer and it works fine. 13. Wireless network works fine on all other computers, can see this computer, but cannot access it (no permissions error). 14. I've lost reasonable sanity over this. Any help anyone can give is appreciated. This computer has been working for 2 years on the network, no problems, until now. The only thing I noticed is that I had a network bridge before in Network connections, although I do not know what it was bridging? Now I cannot install a bridge because I only have one NIC.     - WINWORD.exe opens at startup After restarting my computer I can generally not open a word document, or if it does open I will be able to type and select text, etc using the keyboard, but unable to do anything in the text field using the mouse. Also, any new document I start will be named Document2, suggesting there is some phantom Document1 I can never see. When I check the task manager Processes list after booting, I see an instance of WINWORD.exe, even if I have not yet opened word.     - Converting colours to hexadecimal code Hi Folks I am busy writing a macro which will convert an RTF document into HTML which will be viewed through Flash. (Which means that there is very limited tag set.) I have pretty much solved the conversion of the text, but am strugglin with the color formatting conversion as HTML requires the colours to b specified in HEX code. I have tried a "straight" conversion as follows, but the result is no the same. MyHexColor = Hex(Selection.Font.Color) In the case of RED, the hex value that is returned is "FF", but th text is diplayed as GRAY in the HTML document. Apparently the correct value should be "FF0000", so I thought tha maybe the I needed to have a 6 character hex code. No problem - I wrot this.     - ASCII Character Codes - any suggestions? I have a set of character codes which I used to use to key in various characters such as vowels with various accents over them. However, since changing to Windows XP I notice that some of them don't work. For example, I used to do a capital O with a circumflex (chinese hat!) on it by keying in 226, but that now produces a strange sign. Have the codes been amended? Is my computer faulty?     - Word hyperlinks and networks Hi I can insert hyperlinks and have all working well on a microsoft peer to peer network but if I create a hyperlink from a word document from a (Novell)network drive to a network drive the hyperlink is created like this ../../../../CHM/Das/Inorgani/RAWDATA/SOIL/2003/ICP data/E271103.xls. If I create the same hyperlink from a document on my c: drive to a network drive the hyperlink is created like this G:\CHM\Das\Inorgani\RAWDATA\SOIL\2003\ICP data\E271103.xls. The first hyperlink doesn't work but the second one does. Is there a way that XP can be made to put the hyperlink in as G:\CHM\Das\Inorgani\RAWDATA\SOIL\2003\ICP data\E271103.xls. when both files reside on the network???? --------------- Any suggestions? Following a crash, I have had to re-install Windows XP Home and all my
software, including Office XP Pro with SP1. Since then, the on-screen
fonts in Word appear poorly-spaced and "blocky". The appearance
sometimes improves, or changes, after the text has been highlighted.
Can anyone help?

Download the correct graphics drivers from the graphics card manufacturer's
site. Make sure that when installed you select the correct setting for your
monitor. If you are using a TFT monitor, these are optimised for certain
resolutions: for example, a 15" TFT usually runs at 1024 x 768 at 60 to 75
Hz: a 17 or 18" TFT is optimised for 1280 x 1024.
