How to show macro names in Word 2007
I just got Word 2007 and added my mcros to that quick toolbar thing,
whatever it's called. But I only see the symbol, not the macro name unless I
hover.. Is there a way to see the label without having to hover my cursor
over it? Otherwise I have lots of symbols that don't mean anything. Also, is
there a way to customize a symbol, like in former Word versions?

changing default text wrapping for graphics
Hello, I'm using Word 2007. I'm inserting a lot of graphics in my documents
and I'd like most of them to be set "Top and bottom" with a 0.13" distance
from top and bottom. Can I set this so that this will become the default? I
can't see how this is done.

A problem with footnotes
I have a document that has an odd problem with a footnote.
Example:
Now is the time for all good men1 to come to the aid2 of their
country4.
_______________
1 All able bodied men between the ages of 18 and 30=B6
2 Provide assistance where needed=B6
=B6
4 The country in which you live.=B6
The paragraph mark between 2 and 4 is taking up a number as though it
was footnote 3 - but there is no footnote 3. I cannot delete the
marker because Word considers it the last paragraph mark in a
footnote, which cannot be deleted. I can delete and recreate the
entire paragraphs above and below, recreate the footnotes in that area
- add footnotes, delete footnotes and all that happens is the blank
"footnote" in the footnote area simply travels somewhere else.
The actual document is really large and has hundreds of footnotes -
all are fine except for this particular issue. Retyping the footnotes
is not an option.
Does anyone have any ideas, suggestions or knowledge on how we can
solve this issue? We will be truly grateful for any assistance!!!

word equivalent of emacs ctrl-a ctrl-k

I cut and paste lines all the time.
In emacs, I do ctrl-a ctrl-k
In word, I can do "home" to get to the beginning of the line -- is there a
way I can cut the whole line from there, or insert a mark, do an 'end', and
select the line -- or select from the beginning of the line to the end and
do a ctrl/c.
I am looking for some way to avoid having to use the mouse to cut the whole
line -- I want to use the keypad.

Can I get Word 2007 to remember the View for each document?
Is there any way to get Word 2007 to remember the "View settings" for
each document and always open that document with the same settings?
The settings I care most about are View (Print Layout, Draft,
Outline), Zoom (100%, page width), Document Map (on/off), and the size
and location of the window on the screen.
I use different View settings for different documents, but I tend to
use the same settings for the same document. As it is now, Word opens
each document with the same settings as the last document opened (I
think).
I would also like this to apply to templates. That is, all documents
based on a template open with those settings unless I change them.

View - Zoom - Page width problem
I use Word 2003 on XP. I like writing / editing documents in Normal
mode, and I use View - Zoom - page width to maximise the print size on
the screen.

Parse document into table rows dilemma.
Hi,
I was wondering if it's possible to take a word document and somehow feed it
into another blank word document so it ends up in a table with two columns.
Each paragraph would be broken out into a separate row. One of the two
columns would remain blank (preferrably the first one).
The reason I need to do this is because I do data analysis on voice
automated outreach via phone. I currently have to read each of the scripts
we use for the phone calls and figure out where in the script each field is
that's capturing the responses.
The need for two columns is so that I can type in the field name next to the
paragraph and not mess up the indentation order.

Remove Highlighting
Running Office 2003 under Win XP
I recently received a file that had some passaged highlighted in yellow.
When I was done what I was doing, I went to remove the highlighting. But I
had deleted the highlighting button from the button bar because I never
highlight things.
I was unable to find any menu command that would permit me to remove the
highlight. Is there one, and does anyone know where it is?
I ended up just deleting all of the text and typing it back in--an annoying
task.

Organisation Charts
I have a Word document that includes an organisation chart. They were
created with Word 2000, within Office 2000. I now have Office XP and am
trying to edit the document. However when I click on the organisation chart
to edit it I get a message to say that the source file and application
cannot be found. I have looked through the Office directory and cant find
the Org application that was part of Office 2000. There is an Organisation
Chart which is included in the Insert Picture Option but it isn't as
flexible as the old version. Anyone any ideas as to how I can edit the
chart? Is there a download I can add for the old version of Org?

English Spellchecking doesn't work, Proofing tools?
When I try to spellcheck anything in word it says that "Cannot find proofing
tools for English (U.S)" then it goes on having to install/reinstall proofing

OEM vs Retail Licences question.
Hi Guys,
Ok, probably not exactly the right group for this question, but this is one
of the most active and knowledgable group I visit, so hopefully someone will
at least be able to tell me the right place to go and ask about this...
My company(well, the one I work for) has about 10-15 computers running
(mostly) Windows2000 and Word(/Office)2000. We are considering upgrading to
XP and Office2007.
Looking at licence pricing, it looks like it's going to cost us several
thousand pounds to do this!
Now, there are companies on the internet that sell OEM versions of XP and
Office2007 at considerably less than the retail price. My questions are:
1) Is this legal, ie is there any chance of having the licence police coming
a-knocking...?
2) If it IS legal, are there any catches or potential problems with going
this route? I've always been a believer in the saying "If something looks
too good to be true, then it probably isn't", and that appears to be the
case with buying OEM licences.
(My understanding is that it's based on the fact that although OEM licences
can only be sold to 'system builders' the definition of 'System Builder' is
fairly fuzzy, and these companies exploit that loophole.)
Like I said, if you can't give me a definitive answer here, just point me to
a better place to ask.

Alt key commands (accented letters)
Greetings. I am trying to write some text in French in Word. The problem is
that when I use the Alt key commands, the accented characters that come up
are automatically changed from Times New Roman font to Lucida Sans Unicode.
However do I get this change to stop happening? I want the letters to appear
in times New Roman font just like the rest of the test. also, I do not want
to use Character Map or Word's symbol feature to produce these letters as

How make hotkey to toggle spell check?
Is it possible to create a keyboard shortcut in Word 2003 which will
toggle the spelling check on and off?
At present, I have to go to Tools > Options > Spelling & Grammar > Check
Spelling As You Type. This can get quite tiresome if I need to switch
spelling on and off quite frequently.

How can I make text box with scroll bars using Word 2007?
Hello everyone,
I'm new here.
I have texts in Microsoft Word 2007 that's longer than the text box.
What I want to do is to put vertical scroll bar on right side of the box so
that when user scrolls down, he can see hidden texts.
I tried using Developer/Controls/Legacy Tools/Scroll Bar on text box but
scroll bar did not come up. There must be something to do on text box that I
don't know.
Please help me how to accomplish it.

How do you turn of the autocomplete insertions of dates?
When I write texts I see these flashing texts that are autocompletions of
dates etc.
On common such is when I write the swedish word "den". This could be the
start of a date such as "den 27 november" but that is rather uncommon.
Instead "den" is a very common word in swedish (like "the" in english) so I
see these unecessary flashing texts a lot.

Exporting to Outlook Express
I have a word doc that I have been saving straight email address's in.
Blue - Hypertext So that it they are single address's on a separate line,
probable about 200 in the whole doc. Is there a way of exporting the whole
doc to Outlook Express address book or a group in the address book? Any

Shrinking File Size of Word Document
Hi Everyone,
I am having trouble shrinking the size of a Word Document. The
document is currently a huge 199MB in size. However, even if I delete
ALL of the data in the document, save and re-open it, it only goes
down to 197MB.
What am I missing here? Can anyone help me out?

How do I unlock selections?
I downloaded this program as a trial (I thought) maybe it was downloaded like
I really wanted it, but it never asked for a cc etc... At any rate I used it
last night (word program) it was fine. This morning I pulled up documents

Find and Replace
I have many pages of addresses, all of which should bear the same zipcode of
33032.
I'm trying to find all instances of 5 numbers preceded by a space that are
not 33032, since several people have worked on the document and there appear
to be quite a few errors in typing that zip code.
I'm sure the "but not" is in there somewhere but I just can't get it placed
so that I get results. That expression gets me every single time!

making oversized documents
I have wracked my brain on how to do this:
I am writing a newsletter, and I want to final file to be two 11 x 17
pages, the first to be Pages 4 and 1 of the newsletter, and the second
to be Pages 2 and 3.
Can any kind person offer some advice on how to get this done? If I
present original files to the printer, some graphix and pix look better
coming from the original file, instead of having to make a master by
photocopying the 4 individual pages in order.
Any advice would be gratefully appreciated.

Setting workgroup and user template paths
Hi
In versions previous to 2007 I used to go in Tools->Options->File Locations
and set the paths for workgroup and user templates to company workgroup and
user templates paths and the templates would become accessible under
File->New. I have tried to do the same in Word 2007 but without luck. I set
the template paths under Trust Centre->Trust Centre Settings->Trusted
Locations but when I choose New->My Templates, the templates do not appear
there.
What am I doing wrong?

I want to put a band of color at the top of a page and have it continue

how to get rid of automatic copy request
Every time I open a file in Microsoft Word 97, a box appears saying
that the file I have opened is being used by me and asks whether I

Word 97 and Open Office
I've just bought a new machine, well, a late model Pentium. I gather
it has never been used before; I had it custom built with 160G hard
drive capacity and 256Mb of memory. It came with Open Office which
I've used before and which I'm told mimics Word. However, when I
create documents they are always in a box, and when when create an
html file I get lines in it.
Does anyone know how to solve these compatability problems?
I was using Word 97 before and would like to obtain a copy of this. I
take it this is not in the public domain. If so does anyone know where
I can buy a copy and for how much? I don't like the later editions.
