    - Normal.dot "forgets" my customizations! I really hope someone can help me here! I want to customize my word environment. This is what I do: 1) Tools > Customize > Commands 2) Drag required items to my icon bar (example "close" and "envelopes and mailings") 3) Click "Close" (having checked that "Save In" says "Normal" Everything is fine until I close and restart word when it is back to where I started. I have done this over and over again but it never works! It used to work fine in Word XP and earlier versions. I even tried opening normal.dot, repeating the same procedure and saving but it is still the same. Why is my copy of Word "forgetting" my customizations? Can anyone help???     - Removing Hyperlinks Using Word 2000 I have a multi-page document with numerous hyperlinks resulting from some copy & paste that I have done. I know that I can remove the hyperlinks one at a time with a right-click and then "remove hyperlink." I would like to remove all the hyperlinks in the document at one time.     - Create Master Fax like this? Say I need a Master Fax template, where the entire fax will (for now) occupy one A4 portrait page, and where the 1st quarter of the page will be filled with "who it's from, who it's to, Company logo and address etc" and where the last quarter of the page will be filled with details concerning such things as Internal and External distribution (who gets a copy, etc).     - How to check a check box? I am trying to construct a Word doc which can be emailed, filled in and returned (Would that be an online form?) with some text boxes and some yes/no check boxes. The text boxes work fine and while I have no trouble adding the check boxes to the form but I can't figure out how User is supposed to select them. The only way I can place an X in one is to double click it in order to open the "Check Box Form Field Options" dialog box and then select the appropriate Default value.     - mouse missing!...the arrow disappears! On any 2003 word document, whenever i type, the mouse arrow disappears. I already turned off this mouse function in the control panel (under mouse, you can uncheck the option that makes the mouse disappear when you type). But the mouse arrow disappears anyhow and I cannot locate it unless I move the mouse out of the document...then it reappears again. But this is making moving my cursor throughout my document very annoying. I keep having trouble finding the arrow and have to spend time wiggling my mouse every single time I want to see the arrow!     - Search for CAPITALIZED words? Howdy all, Word 2002, XP, question on searching for capitalized text in a document. What I need to do is a Find and Replace on all capitalized text within a document, and switch it to Bold, leaving it capitalized. There is nothing in common with any of the words that are in caps, so there are no character strings to search on; it'll have to be a style or font setting or?? I can find nothing that can locate non-specific text that is all capitals. In other words, each capitalized word is different; there is no relationship between any of the words, so there is no pattern of text to search on; only the fact that it's body text and it's capitalized. e.g., I might need to find /JUST, /THIS, /HOW, /WHY, ALWAYS, and so on, and change them to Bolded characters. Usually, not always, the capitalized word will be the first word of a sentence, but the length of the word is variable. I've tried a lot of things including wild cards and capitalized, but to no avail. I might be missing something silly, but if that's so, I sure can't figure it out! Any ideas would be most appreciated. Please make me slap my forehead and go D'uh! <g> because the answer is actually obvious? TIA, Pop -- Let someone else do it I'm retired!     - Suggestions for speeding up Word 2K's performance I doubled my RAM to no avail. The program still has the aggravating habit of 'hanging' on a keystroke or command, not showing what the last action was until I move the cursor or create another keystroke. Am I clear? I presumed it was too many programs running, too little RAM or something else that was clogging up my memory. I've tried shutting down everyting but the document I'm working on, and still have the problem. I've cleaned up all the adware, spyware, etc., so that's not the problem. I'm wondering if it's just the nature of the beast. Is there a way to shut off part of Word to get it to run smoother? Would I be well served buying a newer edition of Word?     - Removing duplicate macro code I had three different normal.dot files, each with about 25-30 macros. Many were duplicates. I merged the macro code manually and deleted two of the normal.dot files so that I would have one master file with ALL of the macros. I assumed there would be some sort of cleanup mechanism that would allow me to quickly and easily remove the duplicate macros, or, that they would appear in the Tools>Macro>Macros list so I could just use Delete to get rid of them. However, the duplicate macros only appear in the list once. This is a serious problem because everytime I want to execute ANY macro, I get errors about all the duplicates. It says that the name is ambiguous. If I delete two of the three sections of code for the duplicate it was complaining about and try to run a macro again, it moves to the next duplicate in the list and complains about the ambiguous name. I guess it compiles the whole sheet at runtime. Is there some way in the MS Visual Basic Editor (invoked by Word, et al.) to remove the duplicates?     - Sudden invasion of "Complex Script" fonts?! This comes under the heading of "Aaggh, what have I stepped in?!" Word 2003, Windows XP. Suddenly today the Style and Font dialogs on 2 PCs here are littered with extra boxes and notes about "Complex Fonts." I've never seen that before, and I gather it's related to Asian language support. I've never touched the language settings and have never wanted to use Word's multilingual capabilities. How did this happen, and how the blazes do I get rid of it? I'm trying to teach newbies the basics, and we're getting all this extra stuff in dialogs that were familiar & straightforward just yesterday. So far, documents are still behaving OK, but it's a royal pain to have these extra notations in dialogs I've deliberately tried to keep simple. (On some style descriptions it causes the rest of the format specs to be invisible.) A spell of Googling turned up a lot of folks who *want* this feature but only a few who want it to go away. The recurring advice for getting rid of it is to go to Language Settings in MS Office Tools and remove support for the other languages. But on both of these machines, only English US is enabled. Not sure if this is related, but I also notice some custom keyboard shortcuts have also just stopped working, even though entering them in "New Shortcut Key" in Tools-> Customize-> Keyboard displays what is supposedly the current assignment. I have 3 sheet stackers on my Laser Jet Printer. When I print a
document, it is printed on the 3rd stacker but on the 2nd for my
colleague. We have the same parameter for the printer but not in Word.
So I replace his Normal.dot by mine. Nothing changes !!! The default
stacker is not the same on my computer ans on his. Where are those
parameters...

Printers and faxes, select the printer, right-click, select Properties and
change the default printer settings.
