 - Word Closes unexpectedly! Please help me! Hi guys! I have a very big problem with Microsoft Word. I have versio 2000 installed on a pc with Windows 2000 Server. When I open MS Word, after a few only seconds, it closes, without eve an error message. I used the repair process, I reinstalled it, uninstalled it and installed it again, but nothing worked. What coul be the cause of this? If anyone knows, please help me!  - Old word 1 documents Hi all, I was sent some older word documents for an exam I am taking on Thursday. The author thinks they could be Word 1. My modern word 2000 will not open them. Could anyone advise as to the best method of opening them. They are very small files ( in total no bigger than a floppy disc) , perhaps someone could recieve them as an attachment in an E mail, and return them coverted?  - Add to Dictionary is greyed out on spell checker Hi, Strange problem here. I have a long document "Connections" 250p, divided into sections. Using W97, Win98. Using Template "A". While I am working on a new section, e.g. 10, I have started a new document again using Template "A". When I complete and spell check section 10, I copy and paste it into the proper section in "Connections". OK? Now, I went to the main document "Connections" to do a final spell/grammar check and the "Add to Dictionary" box is greyed out. The other boxes, "ignore", etc. are ok.  - Create a semi locked document Hi All, This is my first post so please be gentle.:( I have a document that I print out and enter some details by hand (i.e. Name, Address etc) What I would like to be able to do is have this document as a template AND not be able to alter or delete any of the text in the document, BUT they must be able to add text to the same lines as the protected text. i.e. origonal text is "Name: " and the user puts in his/her name next to it. I have tried to use the 'Protect Document' but all I can make this do is stop any changes being made to the document not just specific text like I need.:mad: Also is it posible to force the user to save in a particular directory?  - cursor position out of view My multi-page document sometimes scrolls the document in an unexpected way. I don't know how to phrase it, but I'll be typing along (say on the 1st page of a 4-page document), and the cursor gets outside of the viewable area of the screen (i.e., the cursor position is past the viewable part of the window). Then, in order to "see" the typing as I do it, I have to stop and manually scroll up. Does my explanation make sense to anyone?  - footnote numbers I used the convert feature in Word 2002 (insert/reference menu) to change my endnotes to footnotes, and that went pretty well. I can see the note numbers in the text, and on the footnotes, on the screen OK. However, when I print the text and footnotes, the footnote numbers disappear from the text and from the footnotes themselves. Any ideas as to why? Also, the font size of the text in the new footnotes has changed to several different font sizes from one note to the next. Any ideas?  - Query re the fonts atop the drop-down list When I create a document and "test" the appearance of some fonts for use as headings, etc., I find that the font that I tried but elected to not use stays at the top of the fonts lists in the drop-down box. If I elected to keep the font in the document, that would be a "bonus" for sure. But if I test a lot of fonts I soon end up with an unwieldy lists of unused fonts. I searched the help file and found no reference to this list. I also searched my document for any characters (like a blank line even) in the format/font of the unused fonts and found that they are not present in my document.  - Printing Odd-Numbered Pages I have a thirty-page document that begins with a cover page, followed by several roman-numeral pages (i,ii, etc.) and finally the main body of the text, beginning at page one (1,2,3, etc.). I am using Word 2000 on a Windows 2000 Pro platform. When I attempt to print pages from the main body of the text (i.e., those pages numbered 1-25), using the "Page:" option -- whereby you type in the page number(s) that you wish printed-- sometimes I get the page that I specified, sometimes I get that page number, less the number of introductory pages, including the cover page. In other words, if I specify page 25, I may get page 21, since there are four introductory pages. The long way around this is to repeatedly use the Print Current Page option. I'd like to print odd pages, then reverse the pages and print even-numbered pages -- without printing the introductory pages. Is there an easy way to accomplish this?  - toolbar button showing page number Folks, I've realized that most of the time the Status bar in Word 97 is useless except for two things--the page number and the total number of pages in the document. I wonder if it would be possible to create a substitute for that feature--a continuously upgraded display, appearing as a button on a toolbar, that would just show the page number and total number of pages? Then the otherwise useless Status bar, with its stupid column numbers and line numbers and section numbers and inches from the top of the page, could be dismissed most of the time.  - Tables and form tool bar Hi, I am creating a document that consists of multiple tables that contain text form fields. These tables span over several pages. The document contains a header and a footer already. We are trying to accomplish the following: We would like there to be a 'header-like' line near the top of ever page that contains text form fields. This same information needs to be displayed near the top of each subsequent page (So we would probably need a link of some sort). Any suggestions on how we may be able to achieve this?  - Autotext and "title" I am updating the template for out Standard Operating Procedure manual-- trying to make it more user friendly for people to use. I the footer, I want the text to read "SOP: ##.##" and "[SOP title]". because of brevity, the "SOP title" (sometimes quite long) is no always the file name and the SOP number "##.##" is not used as th filename because we want a bit of a description in the filename (mor than just a bunch of numbers). So, I have been trying to figure out how to link plain text, a Wor table cell or pasted Excel cell to be linked with a line in the footer For instance, the top of each SOP will have some information befor the outline starts, two bits of which are the title and the SOP #. Whatever text is in the title is and whatever the # is, I want that t be automatically be shown in the footer. Word has suddenly decied on its own (honest!) to ask me to
press Y or N when I highlight a word and press delete. I
can't find any adjustment for this but I want it back like
it was - hhglight something then press delete and it's
gone. HELP PLEASE
