What key combination am I inadvertenly hitting that causes all my work to
disappear from Word ? The work is not even recoverable using "Undo". This
has happened more than once to me and to others using Word as well?

I know I can delete everything using the EDIT, SELECT ALL, and DELETE
combination but I know that not the cause. Hoping someone out there can
explain the solution!

Thanks,

WDA

Maybe

Ctrl+a, Alt+e, a, c, Alt+f, s

but that would be pretty unlikey.

Has someone played a trick on you by assigning a macro that deletes the
content of the document and then saves it and has then assigned that macro
to the keyboard?

Please post any further questions or followup to the newsgroups for the

Hope this helps

If you inadvertently select all the text and have "Typing replaces
selection" enabled (Edit tab of Tools | Options), then the next character
you type will overwrite all the selected text. But Undo should reverse this.

You can select all with Ctrl+A, you don't have to open the Edit menu for
that.

Thanks Suzanne,

I think you hit on it. I find my left hand sometimes resting on the Control
key and probably when I type an "a" followed by another key everything
except that last key disappears. Unchecking the box like you suggest solves
the problem.

Once again, thanks,

WDA

Just remember that when you select text and can't overwrite it, it's because
you cleared that check box (which is usually better checked).
