I purchased upgrade from Word-97 to Word 2002 to overcome
a known problem in former. I received this thru Dell two
days ago. 2002 didn't solve the problem and has more of
its own. Dell was totally unable to respond, and
Microsoft offers no support. I am not paying either for
support of a product purchased less than a week ago.

I am posting this to record my frustration with the
inability of Microsoft, Dell and AOL to respond to simple
issues, including return authorization requests. (I have
just submitted such a request with Dell via
http://support.dell.com/Dellcare/returns.aspx?
ref=contactus after their phone center repeatedly proved
unable to connect me for such purposes)

Complaining here will not get you a response from Microsoft (which does not
monitor these groups), and it will certainly not get you a response from
Dell. But if you post a specific question about a problem you're having with
Word, it will almost certainly receive an answer.

For problems with a copy of Office you got from Dell, post on their
forums -- start at
http://forums.us.dell.com/supportforums?category.id=software. Unlike these
public newsgroups, the Dell forums are monitored by company personnel who
can tell you how to proceed.
