    - How to install macros and menus in 2007 This branches off from my discussion with Bob Buckland under the subject line "Custom toolbars and menus in 2007." Two questions: 1. Let's say I've created macros in 2007. How do I put them in a menu in the so-called Quick Access Toolbar? I've created "Custom menu" in the QAT, but don't see how to add anything to it. 2. In Word 97 in a friend's older computer there is a custom menu on the menu bar with several macros on that menu The macros are in the Normal template. I've been cracking my head trying to figure how to transfer this menu with its macros to the QAT in Word 2007 on my friend's new computer. Could someone spell out for me the step by step procedure for doing this? Thanks. As an example of the difficulties I'm running into, Bob Buckland said I should save Normal.dot under another name and put it in Word 2007. But when you save a template with a new name, or copy a template and rename the copy, the project name changes (doesn't it?), in which case the buttons on the menu will no longer point to the macros in that project, and so the buttons will not run the macros. Hi Larry, The Ribbon collapses if you use Ctrl+F1. You can, using the links in the previous method, to use RibbonX to customize the ribbon to remove or replace entire chunks (groups) within the ribbon tabs and to add new tabs. Customizations of older Word version built in Word menus and toolbars usually don't come over in Word 2007. Custom toolbars and menus of your own can and by default work from the 'Add-in' tabs. You can create 'clones' of the older version drop down menus or toolbars (hold ctrl key while working in the older version to create a duplicate of the built in menus, but with a slightly modified menu or toolbar name, for example File, as File97) Word 2007 usually retains the button images from the prior edition, but the button editing/pasting capability of prior versions is not in the apps in 2007. Rather than replacing Normal.dotm save a copy of your old Normal.dot under a new file name and then open it in Word 2007. The Custom toolbar and Custom menu choices are placeholders on the QAT. Suppose I wanted to keep access to all my existing menus, both my custom menus and the regular menus to which I've added my own macros. How would I do that? I suppose I'd have to create a new custom toolbar, and copy move all the menus (regular and custom) from the regular Word 97 Menu bar to that custom toolbar, and then add that toolbar to Word 2007. Is this possible? And then I would have my own complete menu bar as a permanent part of Word 2007?     - Macro Security Settings When I open Word 2007 I get a "macro" error. I have to click the error message about 4 or 5 times before it goes away. Then when I open a file I have to go through the same thing again. I printed out the suggestions about "Trust center" to make it stop, disabled macros but that doesn't make any difference.     - Style problems in Word 07 In Office Word 07 (Windows Vista), I cannot find a way to solve a formatting problem Iâ??m having. When I highlight a paragraph to change its style, the whole document changes to the style I chose for the selected paragraph. Also, If I change a paragraphâ??s word-font size or color, the whole document changes according to the style in the selected paragraph. I opened Microsoft Vistaâ??s â??Modify Styleâ?? box, but, unlike in Windows XP, there was no checkbox for â??Automatically Updateâ??.     - How can I turn off shortcut keys ? I have Word 2003 Due to a nerve problem I have difficulty typing. As a result I very frequently accidently hit some shortcut combination and, since I'm watching the kb and not the screen, when I turn to the screen I find my formatting all screwed up. I've often found it impossible to figure out how to undo the formatting. Even 'undo' doesn't always help. Example: I had various words underlined in my text. One time I looked up from my typing to find all the underlined words changed their font and size and became bold and some italic. And the underlining changed to horizontal lines, which I have never figured out how to delete. Things like that happen all the time no matter how careful I try to be, altho that was the worst; I had to trash that doc and retype the whole thing.     - Customising Word Hi I'm not sure if this is an Office question or a Windows XP question! I'm helping my dad set up a new computer, as he is visually impaired. We have used several of the accessibility functions within windows, including having white text on a black background and I have now installed Office XP. There are two aspects I'm having trouble with. Firstly when you hover over the icons on the toolbars they are a dark red, which makes it very difficult for my dad to see - is there anyway of selecting the colour it changes to or turning this feature off all together? On my computer the icons have a light orange shading, which does not detract from the icon at all. Secondly, when the Save As / Open dialog boxes appear they have the shortcut panel down the left hand side, is there anyway of removing this?     - Curious Spell Checker behavior Periodically, my spell checker will flag isolated words as misspelled. The words are accurately spelled, but for some reason, the spell checker uses a foreign dictionary (French or Spanish) for that word. When I manually change the language back to US English (my mother tongue) the squiggle disappears. Two simple steps. According to Help on Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Standard, that bookmark setting is made in the Acrobat PDFMaker conversion settings.     - Sort from the right Using Word 2003. I have a list of names of unequal word count. Some names in the list have only 1 word, some have 2 words, some have 3 words, some have more. I want to sort the list by the last name. In Word Perfect you used to be able to define a sort from the right by using a minus sign. For example, sort by word -1 which would start counting words from the right. Cannot find that option in Word 2003, but I'm wondering if there is some other mechanism for achieving the desired result.     - Styles - sharing via Organizer I have a problem that I just cannot figure out and hope that someone can tell me what I am doing wrong. I am using Word 2000 and creating styles with auto text entries/organization process. I followed the excellent article by Diane Chapman on "Use Auto Text to Create a Text Library." I have created styles and then added auto text entries regarding each of those styles that then should list via the Auto Text toolbar. I have created a style then based other styles on that original style modifying each new style as needed. Creating auto text entries related to those styles. The autotext entries and styles create and list as expected on the Auto Text toolbar. I then want to share those items with others in my office. I used the Organizer to transfer the created styles and auto text entries from my document to my normal.dot template. Then transfered same from Normal.dot to a template we keep on our server. Form that server template I use the organizer to copy to each office computer those same styles and auto text entries. The problem is that all of the auto text items listed under the original style I created transfer to the general template on our server and then to other computers with no problem. But some, not all, of the listed auto text items under the additional styles created do not transfer to the template/other computers. They are in the Tools/Auto Correct/Autotext listing, but do not show up under that style in the autotext toolbar (all entries) button. The style shows up for some with one or two items listed under it, for others the style does not show up. Why are some auto text entries and not others showing up under the styles? These entries change periodically and I thought this a good way to update information easily and quickly on each office computer.     - Yet another numbering question... Hi, I've read the Word help, plus many of the suggestions in this forum, but I'm still not sure what I'm doing, so I hope someone can help with my document numbering. I have a document. Each chapter is a new section. Each chapter has procedures, which I would like to have numbered as in the following pattern: Chapter 1 1.1 <procedure> 1.2 <procedure> Chapter 2 2.1 <procedure> 2.2 <procedure> I can achieve the first number by associating it with the chapter number. {STYLEREF "ChapNumber Char" \*MERGEFORMAT}. However, I can't figure out how to generate the second number. I tried using AUTONUM, but then I couldn't restart from 1 with each new section. I tried using SEQ, but it needed a bookmark. I also tried at one point to use outline numbering to get the effect I wanted, but since the procedures heading = Heading 3 (required), I could not force it to use the "level 2" look. IOW, instead of 1.1 <procedure>, which is what I want, I kept getting 1.1.1. <procedure> and couldn't seem to change it. So now I'm all confused. If someone could help me figure out how to generate the second digit of my procedure number, I'd appreciate it. And if you could tell me how to turn the whole thing into "Heading 3," so that whenever I used Heading 3, the numbering would be right there, I'd be eternally grateful! Thanks very much.     - Insert Picture confusion Word 2003 I am having trouble with inserting pictures (jpeg) into my Word document. The last few I have inserted, somehow wind up in the header. I cannot correct it to save my life. I've tried re-scanning the picture, re-naming it and inserting into a blank document. Same thing. The other question I have, is why is it so difficult to insert a page between 2 pictures? I've tried to work around this by inserting a few blank pages, then inserting pictures into them, but if I've missed on along the way I can't add a blank page in between. Hope that makes sense!     - Controlling Unexpected Font Changes I have been helping some new users learn Word, but they are frustrated by something that I've heard many complain about. Say you're editing a document that contains multiple fonts, and you select, say, "Times New Roman" as the font you want to type in. Then you move to another location in the document, and type, but the new text is not in "Times New Roman" but something else! Now *I* know why this happens -- hidden embedded commands setting the font for the current cursor position. But this is counter-intuitive to many new users -- If they select "Times New Roman", they expect everything they type from then on to display in "Times New Roman"! How can I explain the logic to a new user so that he/she will accept it? This may be a problem withsome of my older and more set-in-their-way-of- thinking members of the group. Also, it doesn't seem "logical" *at all* (even to me), when all text in a certain font is deleted, but the embedded command is still there, so if you move the cursor there and type, it's mysteriously in a different font -- This frustrates people more than anything!     - Missing commands in Word 2007 After "upgrading" to Word 2007, I was appalled to see that my favorite commands have disappeared: 1) in Word 2003 you could select any word(s), press Alt+F3, enter an abbreviation, and thereafter just type the abbreviation + F3 to call up the text. That keystroke combination doesn't work in Word 2007. Does anybody know how to do it in Word 2007 (with as few keystrokes as possible, since I have to type long texts with long, repetitive words). 2) In Word 2003 you could select any word(s) and press Shift+F3 to toggle between uppercase, lowercase, and "Sentence Case". That may seem trivial, but I translate from German to English and use it all the time. There's some slow way of doing it in Word 2007 under the Home menu with the "Aa" icon, but I would appreciate if anybody could find the equivalent keystroke combination in 2007 or explain to me (for dummies!) how to progam a macro that would toggle between all three cases. How do I do that so it picks up the styles of my new template? This group pointed me to the Manage Styles Import/Export feature which is the same as the Word 2003 Organizer.     - Paragraph settings in footnotes Hi I'm currently using Microsoft 97, and continue to encounter a problem with setting the paragraph formatting to a preferred or default setting(ie, spacing within page ). Note that it only happens with footnotes - the main text paragraphing remains configured as desired). Basically, I also want to automatically set or configure my footnotes to the desired setting, but I have to manually adjust each footnote individually.     - cant send e-mail attachments I cant send attachments from Word or Excel 2007 via e-mail. I cant click on the e-nail option. Do I need to purchase Outlook? Sending attachments is so important (such as resumes), why wasnt it included in the Office Home and Student version? Does that apply only to her Word docs, and not to her e-mail, browser, etc.?
In the latter case I would suspect a corrupt user account.

Check the Language settings in Word, and see if they are still set to the
preferred language.
