Hi! I'm currently trying to fill in a form created in Word that's from a
gov't online site. One of the fields is about 15 lines long in an area
which would obviously require answers much longer. When I fill in the form
any lines that go beyond the field window don't print, they're hidden behind
the form.

How do I get the field to expand so that I can add in more than 15 lines of
text?

TIA,

Teri

You don't, Snowrose. Likely, they don't want your response to be longer.

Not for this, Anne. This is a legal document that can have pages and pages
in the answer. I'm responding to another of the same forms, and that same
form, that same field in the other document, consists of 3 pages.

If they can do 3 pages in that spot, there must be a way that I can do 3
pages. But how?

If the form is not password-protected, unprotect it before you start filling
it in. The limited-length field is probably in a table cell with Exact row
height. Change the height to At Least instead. Reprotect the form, then fill
it out.

The form is password protected. :( I guess that's to be expected in a
gov't document.

Here is a link to the online document. Section 8 is what I'm currently
filling out. Fields in other areas of the form do extend as you continue
typing in them, and as I said the lawyer on the opposing side has the same
Section 8 filled out to 3 pages long.

I'm sorry, Snow, but it really looks to me like this is
intentional--especially since they password protected it. However, if you
want to unprotect the document, simply close it, create a blank doc, and hit
Insert-->File, and choose the form. Anything you've previously filled out
will likely be lost once you reprotect it, tho. Depends on your version and
the settings. Good luck with it!

You may need to contact the gov't dep't and ask that they correct the form.

This worked out really well, Anne. Thanks so much!!

I couldn't get the form to let me add in page breaks correctly and such but
was finally able to create the document I wanted by printing pages from a
regular doc file and adding those in. And with unprotecting the document I
was able to at least get the one field to go down to the bottom of that
page.

I had a tech analyst friend look at the form. He's taken the MS courses and
even he said that the problem was that the forms were done improperly, which
made me feel a lot better!

Again, thanks so much for your help!!

Teri
