When you choose Insert - Object - Create from New, it should be listed under
Microsoft Equation. If you don't see it, you might go ahead and install it
unconditionally, rather than "on first use," by setting the dropdown in
Office Setup to "Run all from my computer" for the Equation editor.
If it still doesn't show up, you might try adding the Equation tool to a
toolbar. Tools - Customize - Command tab, set Categories to Insert, and set
Commands to Equation Editor, then drag it to a toolbar.
