Corrupted documents
I have a series of documents that suddenly refused to open in Word
2002/2003. When I try, the program just sits there and eventually has to be
killed through task manager. The documents open fine in WordPad, I save
them in .rtf and can open the new file in Word without difficulty, but when
I save them back as a .doc I can't open the new file. This behavior is
noted on 4 different machines (the files are shared on a server).
Any suggestions?

Replicate date from Header
I am currently using Word XP on a Windows XP computer. I
am creating a template with a date in the header, but not
neccesarily "todays" date. I would like to propagate the
date entered in the header to various points in the
document. What is the best procedure for doing this?

Shortcut to toggle line spacing (leading?)
How can I create a pair of shortcut keys (eg, Ctrl+L & Ctrl+Shift+L)
that will toggle the line spacing for the current line (paragraph).
When I say "line spacing", I probably mean leading. It's the "spacing"
settings (before and after) in the Format / Paragraph panel.
I would like Ctrl+L to toggle the "space before" setting between 6
points and 0 points and Ctrl+Shift+L to do the same for the "space
after" setting.
I do not want any other settings affected.
Can anyone direct me on how to accomplish this?
Thanks

Help is not working
Hello
I have a customer where two people within the office are
not able to check for Help with either the Office
Assistant or using the index. Let me explain...
If they type in "borders" within the help line within
Word, "Add borders, About borders, etc." will be
displayed, but when they try to click one of these
hyperlinks, nothing happens.

line spacing
This is something that drives me absolutely bezerk!
Why is it that sometimes, if I have 1.5 line spacing, but
want (say) 2 lines at 1.0, I can highlight them, select and
apply the spacing that I want without affecting other
text... but other times (most of the time) it doesn't work
that way?
Is there a setting somewhere to tell Word that I want to be
able to select certain lines and apply the spacing JUST to
that area w/o Word applying it to other text? I looked in
Format > Paragraph > Indents & Spacing, but I don't want a
whole paragraph solution, I want a line by line solution and
I want it to be global.
For instance:
Bullets... I want them spaced 1.5, but any multiple lines
within a bullet at 1.0.
Recipes... I want the ingredients listed at 1.5, but the
instructions at 1.0.

Document has big gap of blank space
I have a multi-page document with tables and drawings.
about 2 pages in, I have about a 1/4 of the page with text
and the rest is blank space. When I navigate with the
arrow keys it jumps the rest of the page on to the next
page wich is fine, that is, all the text is there.

Microsoft Office 2000 Templates
I don't know that much about windows, so i'd really
appreciate any help anyone can give.
Someone at my office set up templates in Word on our
computers who does not work here anymore. we used them
for fax covers etc... But today they suddenly stopped
working. When i try to open any of them it tells me "word
could not open this document template".
I have tried going through the online help, but
neither of the two options it gives me seems to have any
effect.
Also, when i try to close it asks me to save a file
called normal.dot, and if i cancel and try to close again
it tells me "changes have been made that effect the global
template, normal.dot, do i want to save those changes."
Thank you in advamce for any help.

Track changes
We are using Word 2003 and the Track Changes feature has users concerned.
I'm not familiar with it so I am looking for feedback. One concern is that
when a user saves and accepts changes to a file, the revisions will still
show up when they open it. Will the same thing happen to a client if we
email the file to them? Id there a way to just turn Track Changes off?

WORD 2000 (1) select text and (2) double lines.
I have WINDOWS 2000 as the operating system and Word 2000 presents two
problems:
1) Is there a way to select text "page by page"? Or character by character?
I've been simply holding down the Control key and dragging.
2) I have some odd double lines that appear (I do not know their source) and
they are not subject to normal deletion methods. Selecting above and below the
offending lines, attempting to delete the double lines:

How to reverse foreground/background colors
I occasionally copy web pages into Word. On some pages, the producer has
used strange foreground and background colors. One of the more common is
white (or other bright colored) letters on a black (or other dark colored

then to change them around to normal God-fearing black text on white
background. If I click Format Font, I can set the color to automatic, but
that doesn't do it. Please suggest alternatives.

Odd formatting problem
I'm using Word XP (2002) and have encountered an irritating formatting
issue. Whenever I apply a formatting change in a document--e.g., adding a
bullet list, or bolding a line of text--the change gets applied to the
entire document. If I then do a ctrl-z to undo the change, I am left with
formatting applied as originally intended (i.e., the erroneous formatting to
the entire document is removed, but the intended formatting to a specific
section holds).
Has anyone else encountered this, and know how to remedy it so I don't have
to hit ctrl-z every time I apply formatting changes?
I've looked at the autoformat settings and nothing there looks like the
culprit. I'm thinking it may be an issue with the Normal template, but
can't see any way to make changes there either. It sounds like a
corruption, since I can't think of any reason you would ever want a setting
that applies every format change to the entire document.
Thanks in advance for any insights.

Correction modus
Office XP, standard settings after new installation
Former Versions (up to Office 2000) showed the proofreader's mark in the
overwork modus in two colors (red and blue). In Office XP this changed to
one color and a signe format (e.g. underlined). The reason for this change
might be to allow the proofreading in teams (one color per person). I would
rather like to keep the old modus with two colors (new: blue, delete: red).
In the extra option menu is no button to make this change. I positiv know,
that it is possible (I mad this change over a year ago, due to an new
