 - Chapter/section numbering Hi I'm formatting a large document and our comapny's manual conventions require the use of a Chapter.Section.Page numbering system ie 2.3.8 or Chapter 2, section 3, page 8. I've figured out how to use section breaks to restart page numbering but wondering how to restart section numbering at the beginning of each chapter. In other words chapter 1 ends at 1.4.6 and I would like Chapter 2 to begin with 2.1.1 not 2.5.1 (I do not want the "section" number to incrementbut rather restart at 0 Any ideas?  - headers and footers I have completed a document and wish to add headers and footers. When I click on view and then on Headers and footers nothing shows on the document. I am in print layout format. I did not that when I clickon original as opposed to final mark up it will show a header/footer but then it reverts my document to its error prone state!  - Macro doesn't record correctly Word 2003 Hello I'm not very experienced at macros but I record little ones just to quicken repetitive tasks. Today I recorded a macro on 3 machines with Word 2002 that pasted unformatted text at the cursor (Paste Special | Unformatted Text) and assigned it a shortcut key. I did exactly the same thing on a machine with Word 2003 and it wouldn't work - looking at the code it is only recording a straight paste. I did it over and over and in the end I just wrote the right code in myself, using the code from one of the other machines and it works fine. Is there some different way of handling this that I have missed in Word 2003? I certainly followed the same procedure that had worked on the other machine.  - Update Tables Of Content I've created a table of content using MS word Indexes and table function. However, I find that the fonts size are too large, thus I change to to a smaller one... the 3 page content page now shrink to 2, but this means that the rest of my report are push up by one page.. However, the pages in the table of contents does noe get updated. Anyone knows how to automatically get it to update my page? I've tried finding the solution thru' Help, it asked me to click on the left of the index/table and press F9. After, having done so, a funny green color flashing box appear.. what's this?  - How to position text absolutely on the page? How do I position the curser to start typing at a precise positio within the page (like WordPerfect used to). I am wanting to add inpu codes into a template at the bottom - irrespective of how much tex gets typed above.  - XP Styles vs. 97/2000 styles I neeed some ninja MVP, "concept" help for WORD XP and later. Could a smart person please help me retrieve (or understand why I shouldn't) two style functions I relied on in 97 and miss in XP? First, I name styles alphabetically so they'll show up *IN THAT ORDER" in my drop-down list. What's happening on the right side of my screen in XP??? What a FRICKIN MESS!!! and (2) when I format a paragraph, I use that paragraph to then update a style. I'm aware in XP, on the right, how a right-click on a style name may SOMETIMES offer the option to "update from selected paragraph" or whatever, but SOMETIMES that option is gray, and I'm stuck with a weird style name that is my original style an unwanted PLUS SIGN and then whatever attribute I failed to fold into the original style.  - Jewel Case DVD inserts - 1 additional question, please! Referring back to a previous post dated 2/20 @ 1:04 p.m. I can now manage the text wrap by laying down a single cell/frame table and sizing it to the exact overlay size as the template outline. I then used a drawing canvas to place my image on to make it more manageable. The text then wraps beautifully. Only one more problem for me, I can't figure out how to insert a background color or texture behind the text and image. One can insert anything in a textbox, except textwrap.  - Copy and Paste to Word 2003 I have been using Word 97 for three years now and attended two course in the use of the Word programme. Recently I purchased a new computer with Word 2003. I have noticed that when I copy a paragraph from a document or webpage, open Word 2003 and paste that paragraph into a new document (in Normal View) there is a small icon alongside the paragraph. If Word 2003 is opened before the paragraph is copied and pasted then this icon does not appear. When this icon is enlarged it looks like a small calculator or handheld computer.  - Word Window Size I use Word 2003. Today, for no apparent reason, when I maximize the window there is a gap between the top of it and the viewable screen area of about a half inch.  - Wheel mouse - wheel won't scroll Word 95 documents I have two computers - a desktop running Windows 98SE and a Toshiba Laptop running Windows XP Professional. Both machines have Word 95 installed. The laptop also has Word 2002. On the Windows 98SE machine, my wheel mouse wheel scrolls Word 95 documents without any problem. On my laptop, my wheel mouse wheel scrolls Word 2002 documents without any problem, but not Word 95 documents. The laptop has one of those touch pads, which I hate to use. I bought an HP optical USB Mouse, and I installed it on the laptop. For a while, the wheel mouse wheel scrolled Word 95 documents properly, but I found that if I powered off the laptop, when I started it up again, the ability to scroll Word 95 documents via wheel was gone. I also found that the HP mouse driver was no longer present in the mouse region of the control panel. In effect, I had to reinstall the HP mouse driver every time I booted from power off in order to have it functioning and be able to scroll Word 95 documents via wheel. When the HP mouse driver was functioning, there was a place in its dialogs that provided some fix for problems scrolling Microsoft Word documents by wheel. I forget the exact label, but it cured the problem until the next power off. I had conversations with Toshiba tech support, but they said that the HP driver was not supported by the machine, and that when it boots up, XP would replace the HP driver with its generic mouse driver. My calls to HP tech support were met with no solution. All this time, I had been using a Microsoft Optical USB wheel mouse on my desktop Windows 98SE machine. So I switched the two mice. The HP mouse works fine on the desktop machine, with no problem in scrolling Word 95 documents via wheel. The Microsoft mouse is now on the laptop. I installed a freshly downloaded Microsoft Intellipoint 5.0 driver on the laptop, and that driver stays installed even when I power the laptop down and then start it up again. However, just as with the HP mouse, the wheel will not scroll Word 95 documents. Furthermore, there is nothing on the Intellipoint dialog or its help file that alludes to any such issue. Whenever I put data in the form fields and then save and exit the document, when I re-open it, the form fields are blank again. It means that I can type something on a new line, and before the next word, I can hit the specific button and the next word moes straight away to the right with dots between the two words.  - Aligning vertically Hi, I have a table with 2 columns and several rows. On the left columns I use font ARIAL BLACK and right column Arial. I am trying to vertically align the lines so that it reads properly from right to left but because the fonts are different (or some other reason that I obviously dt know), I cannot match the alignment so that it is smooth. It always ends up slightly off. I have tried everything I cd such as "space before" and "space after" and line spacing using "multiple" etc., but that is obviously not the right way.
