    - Applying new Style to all docs I have Office 2003. I changed the Style so comment references dont appear in all new docs. This works fine as no initials appear after comments I insert now. However all my documents made in office 2000 display the comment initials. The style I applied does not seem to work with pre-existing documents.     - Word crashing consistently Hi, we've been having a problem with a user running WinXP pro with office XP pro SP3. Essentially, if he opens up a new word session and clicks the bullets and numbering button, the application crashes and closes. Also, we have custom templates (dot files) that we created for our business documents and whenever he opens this template to create a new file, he is unable to open the style and formatting pane. If he does attempt to open it, Word crashes in the same way. We tried uninstalling office and reinstalling. Nothing changed. We tried renaming the Normal.dot file to have it recreate a new one, and once again, nothing happened. We also noticed that this problem only occurs on his profile. If I log into his computer with my account, everything is fine, and I can open up all the panes. Anyway, I hope you can help me out here.     - two problems Hello, Small Problem: Is there a way to force Word to always open a document at 100 percent size. My program often opens a document at 140% or even 200%. Bigger Problem: 60 percent of the time when I close Word it crashes. If I tick "Use Word as editor" in Outlook this will increase to about 90 percent. Then it wants to recover the document (I've learned to always save the document before I close) and it wants to send a report to Microsoft (and I've let it send hundreds).     - How many installations do I need? When I install Word, I always select the option for a complete installation. Nevertheless, shortly after I start typing or using a spell checker, I am told that the part of the program I need has not been installed yet and I need to dig out the disc and install the necessary component.     - office xp I would like to make changes to a doc & show the pages & changes on the pages. Markup does some of that but what happens when one adds text & the page overflows to the next page.     - Date format for Track Changes Hi everyone, When I have a document with Track Changes information, currently if I rollover a change I get the date of the change in American format (month/day/year). Can I change this? I want the standard UK format (day/month/year). The odd thing is, i'm pretty sure i'm set up using a UK dictionary and UK settings (also my global computer regional settings are all UK based). So, i'm not sure what's going on.     - Word saves a copy of all changes I make? I've heard that Word XP saves some evidence of all changes and revisions that I make to a document. For example, if I am keeping a log and in June, I correct/rewrite an entry from April (in the same document), someone would be able to detect that the entry was not written in April. This can be a problem with legal ramifications. Is there a way to shut this feature off and get rid of any record of changes made?     - Remember what printer to use in a doc file Can Word 2003 on Win XP Home remember what printer to use with each doc file? I cannot seem to make this happen. If I print a doc file on a specific printer, then save that doc file, and then in a subsequent session reload that doc file, the printer gets reset to the default printer. I've a bunch of documents which should always print on one printer, another bunch that should print on a second printer, and so on--they are special-purpose and customized for their target printer.     - Bulleting NatureCan someone explain bullets for me. Sometimes when I want bullets I click it and then select which one I want.When I close it everything except what I want have bullets. I have to click Undo and every time I make a selection I have to Undo again. When I Undo it does erase all bullets except what I want. Does anyone understand what I am trying to say.     - 3D borders My son would like to get a 3D border around some text (Word 2003 on Win XP Home). We try the Format->Borders and Shading menu to get a dialog box and push the 3D button, but the border stays flat (no change from the standard Box border). When we reopen the Format->Borders and Shading dialog on the text around which we have placed the "3D" border, the Borders-And-Shading dialog indicates that the border is "Box", not "3D". So somehow the 3D is refusing to take. How do we get a 3D border (and what does it look like, anyway)?     - Mini Labels I am trying to locate very small inkjet labels for a project of mine. I am trying the Avery 8658, 189 per page at 27 x 7. Even they are too big and I end up cutting them laboriously. Ideally I need a selection of about 12mm by 3mm, 12mm by 6mm, 16mm by 3mm. Naturally I would prefer A4 sheets but anything will do if they are hard to come by. If they are clear labels, see-through, even better, but that is making the search even harder.     - inserting files - problems with formatting i have a user who has 300 files that he wants to insert into one word document .. okay, no problem, have code that will do this - however, each of these documents is formatted inconsistently to the others but he wants each one to retain its own formatting. I thought that placing a section break before the insertion of the first file & in code after the insertion of each additional file would mean that the documents retain their own formatting but its not happening. Font colour is staying okay but font type / size / borders etc is being "lost" and changed to the document that the other documents are being inserted into. Any ideas?     - Winword caused error in GDI.EXE Crazy thing this morning: When I opened seemingly innocent Word documents, I received this error message: "Winword has caused an error in GDI.EXE. Winword will now close." And it did. Poked around on Google and saw a few hits that mentioned a connection between this error message and Internet Explorer. (Didn't make sense to me, either.) So I did a repair of IE via Add/Remove programs (knew a repair wouldn't hurt anything) and the problem went away. Any thoughts on how the two are/were connected? Just curious.     - Word 2003 Markup problem for Comments We're trying to convert over 200 Word 97 templates to Word 2003. In Word 97, we used the comments feature to display pop-up help text. Worked great. In Word 2003, to display the comments, Markup is selected. But, it also displays the comment numbers behind the highlighted text. Is there anyway to keep the highlighted text but lose the numbering? For example, yellow-highlighted text has "C1" following it, for example. If Markup is turned off, users can't see the highlighted text to view the pop-up help windows.     - Mail Merge with an Underline Background I am doing a bunch of certificates and on the certificates there is tabbed ledger with an underline so the name could go on top of it. Problem I have an excel spreadsheet with fields ready for a mail merge to go. When I go to insert the fields the underline goes away. I guess it is because it overwrites it.     - Style "Clear Formatting" Problem (Office XP) Re: I have a document in which the "Clear Formatting" box which normally appears at the top of the Styles list has somehow corrupted. The box, which normally simply has the text "Clear Formatting" with a hover tag "Clears formatting and styles from the selected text" still has the hover tag but now displays (to the very small extent it's able given the fixed dimensions of the box) "130" in Wyatt GB CFA font at 130pts. In addition, when clicked it doesn't clear anything - it changes the selected text to Wyatt GB CFA 130pt!! I note also that when I try to page number, the page numbers appear in Wyatt ... 130pt. Nowhere in the document is that font used, however I have no knowledge of what may have been done in the past. Firstly, is there any way I can repair the 'Clear Formatting' function?     - Word 2003 and EndNote I use Word 2003. I also use the bibliographic program EndNote 6 with it. I've noticed recently that when I have them both open (which I need to if I'm using EndNote to make citationxs in a Word doc), Word freezes and then crashes.     - .WPS File I hope someone can help me. I have received a file via OE that has a .wps extension, I tried to open it in Word ( Office XP) and was told that I need to install the converter, inserted the XP Office CD and apparently installed that, but I still cannot open the file as all I get is those square box things and nothing legible.     - Why?Why?Why?Why? Can anyone tell me as to why I have to re-install Word 2002 every week or so? It will work fine and then for no obvious reason it will present the message "That it is not installed for the current user and to re-install it". I am the ONLY frickin' user of this machine.     - a custom bullet style I can't get rid of A few days ago, in Word 97, I created a new style called bullet, then I tried to delete it and I couldn't it. And now, if I place the cursor in a paragraph and click on the bullets button on the formatting toolbar, instead of bullet formatting being applied to the paragraph, the bullet style is applied to the paragraph. I go to Organizer and delete the bullet style from Normal. But when I open a new document and click on the bullet button, it still assigns the bullet style to the paragraph. I can't even get the style out of Normal, though I've deleted it. In fact, if I open a pristine copy of Word, it will initially not show the bullet style in the all styles list. But if I click the bullet button, it applies the bullet style. And when I open the Styles dialog again, bullet style is now there on the list! So I can't make any sense out of this. If you are using Windows XP, you can change the time/date display
formats in Start | Control Panel | Regional and Language Options |
Regional Options.
