    - Security warnings when open Word 2003? whenever I open Word 2003, I get 2 pop-up windows: First: window: The command coannot be performed because a dialog box is open. Click OK, and then close open dialog boxes to continue. Second window: Security Warning "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\STARTUP\PDFMaker.dot" contains macros by Adobe Systems Incorporated It goes on to say more and it gives me an option to disable the macros.     - Standard save-as/open dialog box Hello All Is it possible to get MS word 2000 (MS Small Business) to use the same open and save-as dialog box format as everything else in my Win98 computer? I have freeware that lets me customized the open/save-as locations so I don't have to drill all the time, but it works to the standard dialog box and not that odd one they have program into Using the Word save-as history button sometimes helps some, but it creates a list that I have to drill through anyway.     - help freezes Anyone have a solution for the help screen always freezing? If I hit "F1" and word doesn't recognize what I'm looking for, it brings up the "Ways to get Assistance" screen as a single pane in the help window, and won't include the pane with the Contents / Answer Wizard / Index tabs. When I hit the "Show/Hide" button to bring up the pane, help always freezes and requires a ctrl-alt-del taskmanager to shut it down (can't right click to get the pop-up to shut it down). This ALWAYS happens the first time I (try to) use help each day (or session, if I restart my computer during the day). It frequently happens (on the first help usage of the session) as well if I hit "F1" and word DOES recognize what I'm looking for but I want to switch to a different tab (it opens contents and I want the index, etc), but I can usually right-click on the help window in the taskbar and bring up the pop-up menu to remove shutdown help.     - Count with percent IÂ´ve made an invoice with form fields. On every row with items there's 6 columns. 1. Articlenumber 2. Item's name 3. Number of items (how many) 4. Price per item 5. discount (in percent) 6. The total sum of the row. The 6th column takes no 3 and no 4 and multiplies them. Also it should decrease the sum with the discount, but I just can't work this out! I know this must be simple, but it won't work for me if I get another sum than 100 from 3 and 4.     - Sloooow App I am running WinXP Home and lately, it is taking about 45 seconds for Word to start. Other Office apps start fine, and I did a repair, which didn't help. I have current virus protection and have run the latest copies of Ad-Aware and Spybot. I've done chkdsk and cleaned out all old garbage. So far, no luck.     - changes to normal.dot Everytime I open word then close it, I'm prompted to save changes made to normal.dot. What's with that. I've accepted that if I make changes to normal.dot it will prompt to save. Now, I don't even have to open a document and I'm being prompted to save changes. I've answered yes and no.     - Applying new Style to all docs I have Office 2003. I changed the Style so comment references dont appear in all new docs. This works fine as no initials appear after comments I insert now. However all my documents made in office 2000 display the comment initials. The style I applied does not seem to work with pre-existing documents.     - Word crashing consistently Hi, we've been having a problem with a user running WinXP pro with office XP pro SP3. Essentially, if he opens up a new word session and clicks the bullets and numbering button, the application crashes and closes. Also, we have custom templates (dot files) that we created for our business documents and whenever he opens this template to create a new file, he is unable to open the style and formatting pane. If he does attempt to open it, Word crashes in the same way. We tried uninstalling office and reinstalling. Nothing changed. We tried renaming the Normal.dot file to have it recreate a new one, and once again, nothing happened. We also noticed that this problem only occurs on his profile. If I log into his computer with my account, everything is fine, and I can open up all the panes. Anyway, I hope you can help me out here.     - two problems Hello, Small Problem: Is there a way to force Word to always open a document at 100 percent size. My program often opens a document at 140% or even 200%. Bigger Problem: 60 percent of the time when I close Word it crashes. If I tick "Use Word as editor" in Outlook this will increase to about 90 percent. Then it wants to recover the document (I've learned to always save the document before I close) and it wants to send a report to Microsoft (and I've let it send hundreds).     - Date format for Track Changes Hi everyone, When I have a document with Track Changes information, currently if I rollover a change I get the date of the change in American format (month/day/year). Can I change this? I want the standard UK format (day/month/year). The odd thing is, i'm pretty sure i'm set up using a UK dictionary and UK settings (also my global computer regional settings are all UK based). So, i'm not sure what's going on.     - Word saves a copy of all changes I make? I've heard that Word XP saves some evidence of all changes and revisions that I make to a document. For example, if I am keeping a log and in June, I correct/rewrite an entry from April (in the same document), someone would be able to detect that the entry was not written in April. If I print a doc file on a specific printer, then save that doc file, and then in a subsequent session reload that doc file, the printer gets reset to the default printer.     - 3D borders My son would like to get a 3D border around some text (Word 2003 on Win XP Home). We try the Format->Borders and Shading menu to get a dialog box and push the 3D button, but the border stays flat (no change from the standard Box border). When we reopen the Format->Borders and Shading dialog on the text around which we have placed the "3D" border, the Borders-And-Shading dialog indicates that the border is "Box", not "3D". So somehow the 3D is refusing to take. How do we get a 3D border (and what does it look like, anyway)?     - Mini Labels I am trying to locate very small inkjet labels for a project of mine. I am trying the Avery 8658, 189 per page at 27 x 7. Even they are too big and I end up cutting them laboriously. Ideally I need a selection of about 12mm by 3mm, 12mm by 6mm, 16mm by 3mm.     - inserting files - problems with formatting i have a user who has 300 files that he wants to insert into one word document .. okay, no problem, have code that will do this - however, each of these documents is formatted inconsistently to the others but he wants each one to retain its own formatting. I thought that placing a section break before the insertion of the first file & in code after the insertion of each additional file would mean that the documents retain their own formatting but its not happening. Font colour is staying okay but font type / size / borders etc is being "lost" and changed to the document that the other documents are being inserted into. Any ideas?     - Winword caused error in GDI.EXE Crazy thing this morning: When I opened seemingly innocent Word documents, I received this error message: "Winword has caused an error in GDI.EXE. Winword will now close." And it did. Poked around on Google and saw a few hits that mentioned a connection between this error message and Internet Explorer. (Didn't make sense to me, either.) So I did a repair of IE via Add/Remove programs (knew a repair wouldn't hurt anything) and the problem went away. Any thoughts on how the two are/were connected? Just curious.     - Word 2003 Markup problem for Comments We're trying to convert over 200 Word 97 templates to Word 2003. In Word 97, we used the comments feature to display pop-up help text. Worked great. In Word 2003, to display the comments, Markup is selected. But, it also displays the comment numbers behind the highlighted text. Is there anyway to keep the highlighted text but lose the numbering? For example, yellow-highlighted text has "C1" following it, for example. If Markup is turned off, users can't see the highlighted text to view the pop-up help windows. You need to substitute a CreateDate field for the Date field. See
