Closing document issue

what would cause Word to quit when a user tries to close a
document using the 'x' at the top right hand corner? The
doc will close if they use File-->Close and Word remains
open, but using the 'x' quits the entire program. Is that
a setting or an option or just something wrong with Word.
This is using Word 2000 w/ SP2.

Someone......help me please.

Are they using the 'x' for the document screen or the one
for the program itself? If they are using the one at the
very top right of the screen they are closing the program.
The one for the document screen will be below the
menu/toolbars.
