A 'field' question
Hi, I hope you can help.
I've created a document (basically like a school report) with check boxes
and fields. The problem I have is that when I want to type into the field,
it's fine until the text goes onto a different line, then it starts to move
the text of the unfielded bits down the page.
I've saved it as a template, tried it protected and unprotected but can't
seem to get my head around it.
I hope someone out there understands what I mean and can give some advice to
a Word novicette.
TIA

How do I create a document that lets me change certain fields?

Word won't allow a font change - rectangles appear, but no letter
Word will not accept font changes - no matter which font is chosen, only
rectangles appear. I'm stuck with font Super French, and I can bold it or
change the size and changes made earlier today show as letters, but I really
would like to see the rest of the letters. Any ideas why this has happened? Tag: FAO Charles Kenyon Tag: 77745
Signature macro
I have worked out a signature macro, but there is one small annoyance with
it. It does not underline the email address. If you enter an email address
directly into a document, Word can recognise it as an email address. But
running this macro does not underline it.
Any suggestions, or is this just a genuine "feature"?

How do I stop style changing
Although I'm not a new user to word, there is something basic that is
happening that I just don't understand.
I have some text in the cell of a table that is essentially clear formatting
but with typeface blue. There are several lines of it.
If I delete one of the middle lines the line below changes - in this
particular case to Heading 3. (This is just one example - deleting a CR
would also have the same effect.)
However much I 'para format' the whole column the problem still occurs.
Can SKS help out
It is Word XP, WinXP Pro OS.

Page Numbering & Section Break
Hi,
I have a title page in the first section, a table of contents in the second
section, and the main body of my report in the third section.
In my header, I have Page 8 of 16. The number "8" is correct, because I
instructed Word to start over at the new section. But the 16 is 2 too high.
It is including the Title and Table of Contents. If I look at the field
codes, I have this in my header:
Page { PAGE } of { NUMPAGES }
How do I get NUMPAGES to only provide the count in the current section?
I am using MS Word 2003 on a WinXP PC.
Thank you.

How do I get rid of ads for "marketplace" merchandise in help
When I click on help I just want help. I'm not interested in being bombarded
with ads and 'featured links.' Aside from being annoying, these strike me as
a major security risk. How can I restrict help to looking for help and not
the rest of this extraneous content?
If the convenience of the user is what's at stake here, this 'feature'
should be disabled by default. At the very least instructions on how to
disable it should be prominent and visible. If on the other hand the idea is
to steer users into yet another online shopping site...
More generally, Microsoft has a tendency to come up with all kinds of new
features that may be exactly what somebody is looking for but are an
annoyance to at least as many other users, and then make it all but
impossible for the user to figure out how to get rid of the feature he never
asked for and doesn't particularly want. I really wish they'd knock it off. Tag: FAO Charles Kenyon Tag: 77701
Explode text box?
A certain PDF converter program places text in text boxes when it converts to Word. How
can I get the text out of the box? I think the boxes are linked, because if I delete one

outline around the box.

or anything.
Here's some text.
A 8
A- 7

C+ 3
C 2
C- 1
The problem is that when I hit a carrige return after "c- 1", a "D-" is
automatically inserted on the next line. If I hit <cr> after "B- 4", a "C-"
is inserted. The "A-" doesn't have this problem. Somewhere a pattern seems
to have been established. How can I get rid of this?

Text editing problem..
Guys - I have got myself a list of files from a folder on xp opened in word
(it's a list of all files within my music singles folder so I can print them
off and put them with my mp3 player). However this list contains the date,
time and file size etc. (standard file view in xp) and I'm trying to delete
it to just leave track name part of the line. Is there an easy way I can just
delete the first 60 or so characters on each line of text without having to
do line by line - obviously if I try to delete a block by moving the mouse
downwards, it grabs everything right to the end of the line and highlights
that for deletion to. In other words I highlight the bits i don't want, move
the mouse downwards to the next line and the rest of the line I wanted to
keep is highlighted........a very complicated explanation of a very simple
thing methinks!!

AutoText
Certainly not a new user but don't know where to post this one (Please tell
me where may be better).
Some time ago we prepared a Word 2000 template using a table and Autotext.
Sentences (from a different document) were added to autotext (some were 700+
characters) and each given a code. Typing the code successfully inserted
the text into the table (of the template and 'new' documents). This
template still works OK on Word 97, 2000, XP.
We are now trying to set up new templates on the same basis. However, we
cannot enter more than 255 characters (on any version) into autotext. What
has gone wrong/are we doing differently. Please help before I lose all my
hair!!!
If the original was a 'quirk', any other ideas for automatically entering
text using a code?
Many thanks

Do you have an opinion as to why this is? Could it be because the scanner

Problem saving files
Ok, this is very weird, and my previous mail is probably
slightly related to this problem too. I will detail what
I do and what goes wrong.
I have a master document (and 10 subdocuments) with which
I work fine. I always work in my master document. When I
save my master document (and therefore all subdocuments),
I always make two copies. The one that I am working on
currently which I leave in my working directory, and a
copy (of the masterfile, all subdocuments and everything
else that is called up in the master document) and put
that (always) in a new directory (which I usually name
after the time/day it was saved. Each consecutive master
file is named also with a time/day in it. If for one
reason or another something goes wrong with my
masterfile, I just copy the old masterfile (and all the
subdocuments that I had saved at that same time, etc) I
had saved before back into my working directory and I
continue from there. This always works.
And now something weird happened.
Many times while I was working in my latest masterfile, a
previous version of my masterfile was opened up. This
happened often when inserting footnotes or other text. I
always closed the older version and went back to the
version I was working on but somehow I was suddently on
quite a different page and I had to scroll back (or
forward) to get back to my cursor (where I was). often my
whole master file goes into a "flickering" mode and many
pages suddenly scroll in front of me and then too I have
to go back (or forward) several pages to where I was.
When I saved my masterfile (and therefore all the other
subdocuments, as usual), I saved it, as usual, under the
new name, including the time/date in it.
I noticed however that this latest version of the
masterfile is much smaller than the previous saved
version 20kb vs 180kb). That was weird. All other
previous saved versions were 150kb, 160kb, 170kb, 180kb
(they became sligthly bigger as I added things to it).
It seems that when I open up my latest version, it needs
to "open" up the previous (old) version as well. Somehow
my latest saved version doesn't seem to be a saved file,
but a saved link (although this is not stated anywhere!).
When I remove the old version of the masterfile (but all
subdocuments etc stay) from my working directory, WORD
can not open my new masterfile anymore and gives me the
following message:
Word experienced an error trying to open the file. Try
these suggestions:
Check the file permissions for the document or drive
Make sure there is sufficient free memory
Open the file with the text recovry converter
Digging deeper, it says:
The file you tried to open was not found. It may be
missing, in a different location, locked by another
application, or unavailable due to file permissions. If
you are sure the file exists but you cannot locate it
using the Word File Open dialog, start Microsoft Windows
Explorer and perform a search. If the search dialog
returns a listing of your file, double-click on it to
open it. If the file does not open, it is either corrupt,
locked by another application, or is protected by file
permissions.
What I want of course is that Word saves my file as it
always did and not save it as a kind of link or so.
Does anyone have a clue?

footnote problem
Hello all,
I am working on an old document of mine. It was created
in W0rd 2000, but I am using now Word 2003. One footnote
is set at page 100, but is now printed at the bottom of
page 94. No matter what I do, I can't get the footnote at
the bottom of page 100. Also, it's nr is 3, although
there are no other footnotes on that page and should say 1
(and only 1 footnote on page 94 but even than it should
say nr 2 and not 3).
What worries me most is that even when I delete the
footnote completely and recreate it at the right place on
page 100, it automatically puts it on page 94 again. And
not only that, Word opens up an older version of my file
too, and starts working on that one.
All other footnotes work ok, this is the only one that is
weird.
Anyone any suggestions?
Thanks. Tag: FAO Charles Kenyon Tag: 77592

I have a number of large documents that we are trying to open, and they are

document tabs don't line up on different pc's
Hi folks
Hope you may be able to help with this annoying and seemingly unintentional
problem.
I have a word document saved on one pc that I have emailed to other pc's.
The document is basically a list of people and their phone numbers, laid out
on the page using tabs so that it reads in columns...name number
name number...down the page.
Although it displays fine on my original document and some other pc's, there
are a number of pc's in which the document, when opened, has the text all
cramped up and basically in a right mess. There doesn't seem to be any way
to reorder the lines easily so that the original orientation of the 'tabbed
table' is recreated.
Any clues?
Hope this all makes sense. Many thanks in advance for any assistance. Tag: FAO Charles Kenyon Tag: 77583

Which view for wysiwyg and embedded objects?
Hi All
As a novice word user I tend to use "page layout" view as it seems to give
me the closest version to WYSIWYG when you print. This does not always come
true especially if you insert/add an object such as a "check box form field"
or "digital ink handwriting" which show up as {EMBEDDED CODE of some
sort}which also makes it difficult to format the remainder of your document
as you now have a lot of gibberish on the screen. You have to go to print
preview to see the true layout."Reading Layout" does not seem to help.
How can you see such objects as they will print and still work within Page
layout (or other wysiwyg view)?
