    - Open form with table gridlines hidden by default? Hi I make some forms, in which some elements are layed out with tables. I save the template with "Table / Show gridlines" turned off - anyway when the document is opened, the gridlines are visible again. Can I set gridlines turned off in the document by default?     - How do I insert the numberign in my text Hello all, I am writting a test procedure, I would like to put reference on certain steps in my text, however I don't know how to link to the numbering in my text. It doesn't seems like we can copy it, and if I just put in the exact numbering in the text, it appears only to be a normal text. e.g. 1.2.2.28 Repeat steps 1.2.3.5 to 1.2.3.17 and verify....... In the above case, I would reproduce steps 1.2.3.5 to 1.2.3.17 in step 1.2.2.28. If 1.2.3.5 to 1.2.3.17 is not linked, when steps prior to 1.2..2.28 changes order, 1.2.3.5 to 1.2.3.17 in the text would not be updated. Is there any ways to get around this issue?     - How set border "From text" property to 0? (Word 2002) Hello I try to add a line below a paragraph using the Borders and shading dialog. I set a solid bottom border, apply it to the paragraph, and then click "Options". In the border and shading options dialog, I set "From text" to 1 pt for the bottom, and 0 pt for top, left and right. Anyway, the bottom line will still overlap the column width a little both at the left and at the right side. If I do the same inside a table cell with no padding, this disappears. When I go back to the Border and shading options, the values are reset to the default 4 pts. Even if I apply a complete box and set "From text" to 0, there remains a horizontal padding between the border and the text, though in this case the "From text" values are kept. Inside a table cell, this border is cut off at the left and the right side. How can I make a border that does not go beyond the column? (I tried finding Info about this searching the web, the MS knowledge base, and also the MVP faq page, I did not find anything.) Thanks for a hint!     - Changing the default startup document How do you change the default startup document. I have tried opening a blank document, setting the font, margins, layout etc. the way I want and then saving as Doc1.dot and Document1.dot in the STARTUP folder, but no go with either.     - Changing the layout of Word 07 Ok I recently upgraded to Word 07 from Word 03. I don't really like the layout of it, for example the buttons and the tabs.     - Documents Jumping Back to the Beginning.... Oh, Mighty MVPs.... In the process of editing papers, it is common for me to have more than one version of the paper open (different filenames, obviously) to allow me to flip back and forth between the versions, comparing as I go. Often, when flipping to one from the other, Word jumps to the beginning of the document. I have no idea why this happens, or if it is a Word-driven (as opposed to Windows-driven) event. It's certainly not the worst thing that can happen, but scrolling down and then finding where you left off is a bit of a PITA. I've tried the Shift+F5 thingy, but I'm usually only editing one of the documents, the other is merely there to see comments, etc., so it has no effect. Any ideas? I hope I'm not hallucinating.     - Languages Office Word 2007 XP Pro SP2 The language (installed) is in English. The language for spell checking is in French. Dictionary language is set to English. Language Settings (from Office tools) is set to English. Primary editing language is set to English. Yet, under spell check options the only language is French and under the proofing options I have just "French modes" for spelling. This impacts my spell check in OE which is bad, very bad... I spell quite poorly I feel and so I need to have spell checking in a language that I actually speak and type in. Any ideas? I don't have OE in Vista so that's not something I can check.     - Question On Creating A Table ? Hello, Have a document with many lines of text in it. Each line starts with a number, and then some text. I would like to copy all of this into another WORD document, but into a Table (having 2 columns) in that document. The numbers would go in one column, and then the text in the other column. I would then be able, I believe, to copy each column individually such that I can then Paste it into a spreadsheet. Am I correct in believing I could copy just a single column from the two columns in the Table I created ? If so, I have never used Tables in WORD. Not too sharp with this stuff.     - EMBED Picture in Word 2003 I am having a problem with the version of Word 2003 on my home computer. I am doing a class exercise which requires me to add a chart to a Word document. I do this by going to the Insert -> Picture -> Chart. It then brings up a sample chart which I can either edit or use as is. It is supposed to be brought into the document when I click in the document outside of the chart. This process works fine on the computer I have at the lab at school. However, on my own computer at home all I get is a one line message about an embeddded chart when I try to click outside the chart to bring it into the document. I saw something in the Knowledge Base that I could fix that by highlighting the embed message and hitting Cntl-Shift-F9 but that doesn't work. Is there some setting I have wrong perhaps? I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling office several times to no avail. Otherwise most of the normal functionality seems all right. Any help would be appreciated.     - TOC: page number to show section ID also? I have separate sections, A, B, C and so forth. These are created using Section Break - Next Page. I title the sections using a Header style. When I insert a page number in the footer, I will add in the section identifier so the page number looks like A-1, etc. The A- is in front of the page number field. Right now, the TOC field lists the page numbers for each section as 1. Can I get the TOC to pick up the section identifier to list the page numbers as A-1, B-1, etc? IF your diagnosis of the problem is correct, then in Word click
on Tools | Options | General tab | check the "Confirm conversion
at Open" box | OK. Then try to open the gibberish file, and you
should get a dialog box that allows you to select the encoding
you want.
