Envelopes & Labels
When I make an envelope with address and return address on it the only way
I can save it is to add it to the document then save. The trouble is it
leaves a 2nd page (8 1/2 X 11) with the envelope file, and it wants to print
that second page always.
Is there a different way to save an envelope or is there a way to get rid
of the second page in the file?

missing shdocvw.dll file
When I turn on the computer and try to log in, I get an error message
Application has failed to start because SHDOCVW.dll was not found. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem.
I believe this started occuring after I did a Windows update off of the internet and the pc was restarted.
It's hard to do much at all on the computer now, but I can get to some things which do run via the Taskmanager window.
Does anyone have any suggestions on where I can get a copy of this missing file ( or might it be recoverable on my system somewhere)?

Using W97
On my book I have:
Headers and footers - different odd & even, and different first page.
Section 1 (cover), odd page following, no page numbers - OK
Section 2 (TOC), odd page following, page number is i, ii, iii - OK
page following (even) no number shown. - OK
Section 3 (Part One - title) odd page following, page number is 1 - OK
Section 4 (first chapter) odd page following, - page number is ALSO 1 - from
there on numbering is ok.
Question: why is Section 3 starting with number 1 instead of 2?
I have spent hours, but can't find the right combination.

downloading Pics from the web
Up until recently I have been downloading pics from the Web with no problem. Recently when the computer "save picture" window comes up to "SAVE" and the file is listed automatically as "untitled" and the "Save as type" is automatically "bitmap" and not "jpeg" or other origincal files. I am enclosing a pic of my screen so I can explain what I am trying t
do.
I am creating a sample letter to input information and have chosen t
display gridlines shown so my employees know where to input the data
Now if they enter information in the first column and press the "enter
key, it will throw off the whole letter by making the size of the firs
column larger. I know that they can tab over or just click on the nex
column to continue inputing data, but what if they happen to pres
"enter" by accident????
I guess my question is..can I limit the number of characters pe
column? Or is there a way to disable the "enter" key??
Any help will be greatly appreciated..

Slightly off topic I know but I'am sure someone here will know the
answer.
How do I disable MS messenger?
I know I need it for email etc. but when I log my three year old son on
for him to play games, Bl***y messenger keeps trying to dial up and so
crashes the game.
If I do ctl,alt,del and end msmgr.exe it still comes back!

Hyperlink in Word Document
I insert a hyperlink in the Word document, which links to another Word
document. When I kick the hyperlink to open the second document, I want
to close the orginal document (so I have only one Word document open).

Weird Template Problem
I have office 2003 and it was fine until I changed some of the use
settings..
even though I have my page settings set to have a 1 inch margin a
the top the cursor starts at the evry top of the page each time when
open a new document..see my picture for a better idea what I am talkin
about. If i choose to view the header and footer..and then close th
header and footer it puts the cursor back where i feel it should be
bout an inch from the top...

Change Icon is greyed in Word 2000
Hi,
I want to change the shortcut to Word 2000 Premium. Since it is blue,
like the Internet Explorer shortcut, when I go in my folders that have
both documents and web pages stored, I have a difficult time telling
them apart. My problem is that when I click "Properties" for the
shortcut to "Word 2000" the "Change Icon" is grayed. I did a repair but
it didn't fix it.

Norton AV - update re recent problems
It seems the rash problems relating to Norton AV since 7/1/2004 have not
entirely been the fault of Symantec, however the fix posted by MVPs, of
unchecking the Office Plug-in in the misc options of Norton AV, does work to
address the slow loading of Office products, and does not impinge on
security.
Norton has posted some further application updates, so updating AV today
would be a good start. It would also be a good plan to check Verisign's web
site for an explanation and a fix for their part of the issue

Header problem in Word 2000
Headers are the bane of W2000 for me. At work, I have a 100+ page
document w/ two title pages that I don't want to put the header/footer
on or include in the page numbering. So, far, I can't get the second
title page to give up the header/footer w/o affecting what follows.
Here's the set-up:
--Section 1: two title pages -- want no header/footer
--Section 2: start header/footer (and page #) here
I know how to start page numbering, but can't get the headers/footers
straightened out, even with "Start here." Guidance appreciated.

.wll files in starup cause boot delay in Word 2003 with message "running virus scan"
Greetings: Thought I'd post in the general thread to see if someone had
a solution to a pesky problem. I'm running endnote 7 with Word 2003.
Thing is, endnote has a couple of .wll files it likes to put in Word
2003's startup folder. These files are causing a pretty serious and
annoying boot delay in which the message "running virus scan..."
appears. Now, before you go cleverly writing about disabling NAV's
office plugin, please finish reading. This occurs with NAV uninstalled
from the machine. No virus checker folks!! I know the .wll files are
causing this delay because if you move em out of startup the delay
ceases and desists. I have a .wll file from another program and it too
causes this pesky delay. Is Word 2003 doing the virus scan? If not,
what is!? Others have reported the same errors. Suggestions?

Incomplete page printing
I work for a law firm. Our computer systems have Microsoft Word 2000
Operating System and we are using Word 2000. Also, we have a document
management system called iManage. That is the background. Every once in
a while, a secretary will be printing a document and when the job is
finished printing, the bottom of the document page is left blank. It
just doesn't print. It shows up on the monitor but it doesn't print. I
have them reboot their system and sometimes that helps but other times,
it doesn't fix the problem. Have you had any dealings with such a
problem and if so, what is the fix for it? Any help will certainly be
appreciated.

I have a couple of simple questions for anybody. I found a good deal on an E-Machine that has all the system hardware requirements I need (for the multi-media stuff). However, it came with Windows XP Home edition installed as the default OS. Here are my questions
1) Besides the obvious differences between XP Home and XP PRO posted all over the Microsoft web site , what are the differences between XP Pro and XP Multimedia Editions? The url to a website that can provide answers to this question would be great
2) I haven't been able to find an upgrade path to move from Windows XP Home Edition to Windows XP Multimedia Edition. Am i looking at a complete uninstall and reinstall (and the sales guy lied)....or is there a Microsoft web site somewhere, that I just have not found, that has a "FREE" download/upgrade that will solve my Multi-media delimma

Horizontal and Vertical Rulers
The Horizontal and Vertical Rulers do not display in
Print Layout view. When I place the cursor as a pointer
close to the upper margin the horizontal ruler appears
and will remain displayed until I move the cursor. The
same is true with the vertical ruler. When I place the
cursor as a pointer close to the left margin the vertical
ruler appears and remains until I move the cursor.
This does not happen with a new document sometimes.
How do you turn the horizontal and vertical rulers on and
off if that is possible. Turning the horizontal and
vertical scroll bars on and off is not the same. That is
easy and is plainly explained in the on line help. The
vertical ruler does not display when I go to Tools,
Options, View, Print and Web Layout options, and check
Vertical Ruler(Print View only).
I was was trying to set some decimal tabs and need the
horizontal ruler for that. Not having much luck setting
the decimal tabs either. They are not working as it is

form field tag order
I need to change the order of the TAB movement through
form fields in a form.
The Help item states:
"Depending on how your form is designed, the TAB key may
not move the insertion point to the correct form field.
You can specify that the insertion point automatically
moves from one form field to another by using an on-exit

This means nothing to me - it's Greek ('on-exit

Whenever I open a blank document in Microsoft Word, a
customized Template appears every time.
How do I delete it so that I can have a blank page appear

Labels question...
Everytime I open up any sort of labels template (in the Envelopes and Labels
section), all I get is a blank page. The template is there as I can tab
accross the labels but there are no more grey guidelines for visual aid. I
tried using the "borders and shadings" properties but this also prints the
lines on the labels themselves.
Anybody know how to get the lines back for my visual aid?

underline question
Why can I not view "underlining" unless there is text
present on the underlining or after it?
I remember in WordPerfect I can choose underline and then
hit the space bar and receive a line length of my
choosing.
I am coverting wp documents with many of these "blank
underlines" that become invisible when converted to word.

Merging Changes into host file?
I have sent my CV to various agencies via email attachment. When they try to
open the file some are finding it difficult (attachment apparently
impossible to open). When I review the files I sent, on opening the file
from the email, I get the message "Do you want to merge changes with the
original file located on my hard disc?" - Obviously I do not want this to go
out with my emails. It appears to be a form of reviewing tool. But I'm
unsure how to use it, and more importantly how to turn the feature off.

I asked this before but nobody replied. So am trying it once more.
I am unable to link from a html page to a specific location in a word
document. I did this with pdf documents with named destinations and
page numbers but cannot in word documents. I did create some bookmarks
in Word files and just said xxx.doc#bookmark, but just takes me to the
beginning of the word document.

Autotext (filename) not updating when saved in a template/form
By know I guess that you figured out that I'm not a Word expert!
One more question/problem...
I have inserted the Autotext 'filename' into the footer of my
template/form. However, when that form is saved it a new name, the new
filename doesn't show up (it just keeps the old filename).
Any ideas? Could I ask the user to input a file name into a Text Form
Feild and have that become the document name somehow?

I may have asked this in the wrong forum, but....
Is there anyway to automatically update a TOC in a form/template?
Probably along that same question.... is there anyway to get a TOC t
work in a form/template? Clicking on a TOC entry in a template doe

Creating and printing lots of different address labels!
Aaargh!!
I'm going crazy here! Sorry but I've tried everything I could think of
and more but I can't seem to do something which seems so simple!
Here is what I want to do, write/input a bunch of addresses and have
them be placed on the page so that I can just put in a label/sticky
page in the printer and print the whole thing in one go. Then to peel
each label and affix to the envelope!
Also I would want to do the same but with one address (repeated a few
times) -- this is kinda related to the first.

New User - Simple mail merge question?
I have been successfully using mail merge in a basic way for some time,
however I thought I would try and be a bit smarter and now I am stuck!
I am merging salary letters, however certain benefits to not apply to
all employees. Eg Car Allowance. So in Excel I have a spreadheet
showing
Salary Car Allowance
B Smith 10,000 3,000
S Jones 15,000 0
In Word I have a letter with the following merge fields eg
I am pleased to confirm your salary as <<salary>>
and your car allowance will remain as <<car allowance>>
What I would like to do is only add the second line relating to car
allowance if the allowance shown in Excel is greater than zero.
Can anyone help - I have tried the help pages and looked at the FAQs
but I cannot seem to find a simple answer - Thanks?
