rescue.asd, part 2 (Word2007)
Some additional information:
I originally had the problem when I was working in a networked folder: I
tried to save the file and got a permission error. So I copied the file to
a local folder, opened it and did some editing. When I tried to save, same
problem. This time, though, after Word wrote rescue.asd, I tried to save
the file with another name. No problem.
So, I'm coming to the conclusion that the permission error occurs when Word
tries to rename or delete the old file. I can say that after the failure
the original file is gone, so it clearly deleted the original file.
This has happened 3 times now with one specific file; I've not seen it
happen with any others. This file contains a lot of graphics - could this
be the problem?

Mouse/Cursor Error
I'm typing in Word 2007, with the mouse pointer idle further down the page,
suddenly in the middle of typing I find I'm typing further down the page

Word 2007 - not highlighting, not formatting, not scrolling
Word 2007 continues to have errors every time I close it. It is not
formatting the text. I cannot scroll using the side scroll bar. I cannot
highlight the text. When I go to the Microsoft image in the top left corner
and click "Word Options," I cannot scroll past the "Popular" tab to change
any options. I looked online and this seems to be a problem with other
users. Some of the suggestions said that editing and deteleting files from
the Registry was an option.
Has anyone else been having this problem? Any suggestions apart from
reinstallation of Office 2007? Thanks! Tag: the tsunami Tag: 118276
Word 2003 doesn't maximize

Not sure if anyone else has experienced this. Have tried searching for
something, but I have a situation where Word 2003 won't fully maximize. When

screen (can see the desktop background). Any solutions? is this a known
issue? Any help would be much appreciated! Tag: the tsunami Tag: 118274

Solution?: Clicked print preview first (and I saw the page footer updates

How do I repair a heavily-outlined document?
I created an outline for a model of an inventory database in Word, and it was
going along fine, until something seems to have gone haywire after I did some
cutting and pasting to move blocks of text around... now the Indentation
Level button does nothing at various places, and I can no longer type ASCII
text directly into the doc. It's like the thing froze due to the
complexity... probably after I created a couple of hundred Index entries. My
PC running Word 2003 is Pentium M @ 1.6Ghz, and has 1.2GB RAM plus more
virtual memory (up to 4096MB). Do you think I should try to Repair Office
(from the Help menu, haven't done it for a few months) or do you know of a
reliable document repair tool? Or is this a known issue with this (2003)
version of Word? It seems that I'm always pushing both hardware and software
beyond their limits just doing needed work! Anyone know the practical limits
that may apply to such a complex doc? Arrgh. Thanks in advance for any

Word 2007 Spell check not "checking"
I have Office 2007 installed on my machine and the Spell Check seems to be
working well in Outlook and Excel, however, it does not check in Word even
though it gives me the Spelling and Grammar is Complete message. I have
checked the settings against the other PCs that have the same software and
cannot find any differences. Those PCs work fine with Spell check. All of
these PCs were new last summer and we bought the licenses for the software
and installed here not at manufacturer. I have tried to do an Add/change
for the dictionary in the control panel but that has not solved the issue. I
need to use English US dictionary. I have purposely misspelled words to
check this out and they have been skipped. I have copied my typing into
Outlook and proofed it from there which works fine. Any suggestions?

Twice now Word 2007 failed to write to a networked drive, and offered to

Renaming it to .docx and opening results in a corrupt file message.

When I save a file in Word, sometimes a piece of the desktop shows through,

Word 2007 Hangs on Splash Screen
Hi, I just finished restoring a copy of Vista via the "rename windows.old"
method, and everything is fine except for Word 2007, which opens the splash
screen and then just sits there. The only way to close it is to end the
WINWORD process. Opening in safe mode seems to open the program, and I'm
able to create a new document, but attempting to open any document has it
hang at "Running Virus Scan..." Strangely, Excel and Powerpoint work fine.
I tried repairing the install with the installation disc first, then
removing just Word and reinstalling it, and last, entirely removing Office
and then reinstalling it. So I'm guessing whatever in Office is causing this
problem isn't removed during an uninstall.
Anyone have any ideas?

New Bug (Word 2003) - Record number shortened to 2 characters in Mailmerge

It is happening to multiple clients across multiple sites. When looking at

Word 2007, can not save text file with form data.
I have a problem in my newly installed Word 2007 with a form that
worked perfect together with Word XP and Word 2003.
(I'm not sure that I use the correct English command names, because I use a
Swedish version of Office, but I'll try explain what happens.)
I tick the 'Save data only for forms' button in the Word-options menu and
sub menue Advanced, and then click Save and a text filename prompt window
opens (showing the form data that will be saved to the text file) and I
select save.
Nothing happens...
I do not know what to do. I've investigated the form as described in another
thread (for Word 2000) , but it does not work. As I said, the form has worked
together with two earlier Word versions... No changes are done to it.
I've runned out of ideas about this...
Anyone recognize the problem?

Copy/paste functionality ha been disabled
We have two users who cannot copy and paste in or into Word. (I'm getting
this info third-hand, so I don't know if they have problems pasting into
other Office apps.)
The first user regularly does a screen shot of a report we generate in a
Web-based app and updates a Word report by pasting the screen shot into the
Word doc. Today when he tried to paste his screen shot into Word, he got the
error message, "Copy/paste functionality has been disabled during the
survey." No changes have been made to the original app, so we are mystified.
Then a while later, another user tried to copy text from one spot in a Word
document into another place in the same doc and gets the error message,
"Copy/paste functionality has been disabled."
Has anyone ever seen this before? Any ideas? Thanks in advance for any
assistance. Tag: the tsunami Tag: 118180
Recovery Console persists when opening new Word documents
Hello,
I am troubleshooting this behavior as part of my responsibilities as a help
desk engineer. One of our clients is experiencing odd behavior in Word.
Whenever they open a document, the Recovery Console shows a document that has
been saved by another user. When they attempt to open or save the document,
they are unable to since they do not have permissions for that folder. I
have logged onto the server where Word and this file are located and have
attempted to save the file in another location, cleared its read-only and
archive bits, and even tried deleting the file from the folder where it is
stored. None of this has resolved the behavior. Any help that could be
rendered towards a permenant solution to this would be appreciated. Thanks

Cut/copy-and-paste problem in Word 2003
My Word 2003 program (running on an XP Pro operating system with an
up-to-date One-Care) seemed to be working fine earlier today, but suddenly it
has started doing something I've never seen before.
When I select an item I want to paste elsewhere, replacing text, I can
cut/copy it as I wish, but when I select what I want to paste over and tell
the program to do so, the item I want to paste is pasted IN FRONT of what I
selected to paste OVER, moving what I wanted to paste over to the right.
This forces me into having to do a SECOND step of deleting what I wanted to
paste over to achieve what I wanted to do in the first place.
Have I inadvertantly pressed a key or key combination that changes the
parameters of pasting an item? Is there any way to fix this and make the
cut/copy-and-paste work as it was before when it would paste over what I
wanted? Tag: the tsunami Tag: 118171

Unable to edit & Word 2007 Crashes Upon Exit - Every time!
I have been using Word 2007 (and Vista) for overt a year. Since the middle of
last week, when I open a file I can scroll through it but I am unable to edit
anything. When I close the file and exit Word, the app crashes. Every time.
I can't think of anything I did to create this problem with one possible
exception. I needed a word (2003, I think) file from my archives for a
project I was working on. I did open this file to do some routine cutting &
pasting. Nothing more. Somewhere along the way I did get the message asking
if I wanted to save my normal template. I suspect, without thinking, I
clicked yes. I can't think of anything elese I unusual I did last week,
Another clue: I see the words "Table Tools" in the title bar, above "Design"
on the Home menu.
I tried repairing Word. I completely uninstalled Office 2007, rebooted
things and then reinstalled Office 2007. I deleted my normal template. I
still have the problem and am out of ideas to try.
This is a showstopper for me and is really mucking up my work! I would
appreciate any suggestions of how to get back to normal.

WORD 12 not saving my changes
Here is a description of 2 recent Word 12 problems:
1) I change the font from Times New Roman to Courier New within a
column in a table that has one column Courier New, and the other
column Times New Roman. Then I click "Save"
I continue working in the document for some time (through several fast-
saves set at 2 minutes).
When I glance at the text I had changed, it's back to Times New Roman.
This has been ongoing now for weeks.
2) More recently I began to notice:
When I open a document to which I had made definite changes (that same
day, the day before, or several days before) my changes had not been
saved.
I have a habit of clicking "Save" repeatedly as I work. I also have
fast-saves set at 2 minutes.
"do you want to save changes" dialogue also works just fine when I
close Word.
Here are the things I've tried:
I ran Repair from the Office 12 disk.
I have an OldNormal.dotm, and I replaced the Normal.dotm several
times. (I noticed a new 1 Normal.dotm" in the folder recently - don't
know what it is, but I deleted it as well)
I deleted Adobe Elements and have Norton Word functions disabled.
What else can I do?
thank you,

"Add to Template" missing in Word 12 Modify Style box
When I select a bit of text to apply bold, red, size 14 (for example)
within a document of many styles, the entire document is changed to
bold, red, size 14.
If I click Undo after each (bold) (red) (14) change, only the bit I
selected remains changed, but since I change styles all day long, this
can get a bit tiring.
I looked up the fix for this: go into Normal Style, uncheck "update
automatically", then select "Save to Template"
The problem is, there IS NO "Save to Template" in the Modify Style
box. All I can see are:
"in this document", and "new documents based on this template"
Not sure if "new documents based on this template" is the default
direction to 'save to template' for Word 12, or if I'm missing
something.

Insert Symbol Error Word 2007
