    - how to completely remove word 97 WinXPsp2, word 97, and excel 97. Several days ago I got a BSD with the message "Stop 0x000000ed Uncountable_Boot_Volume." Rebooting, rebooting in safe mode, and command line did not help so I used my recovery disk. I have backups of my important files and I am trying to restore my computer setup to pre error status. I have used word 97 and excel 97 with win 95, 98, and xp. It works fine for what I do. So I reinstalled both of them and excel works fine but word gives me the "application has encountered an error and must close" message. I have removed and reinstalled word but I get the same message. I then removed word, ran disk error check which found a few bad locations, and then reinstalled word. Same problem. It might be a registry problem. I would like to completely remove word 97 and try again. I found the OFF97 article ID: 254250 that gives the steps to completely remove office 97. However, excel 97 seems to work and I would like to just remove word 97 if it is possible. If that is not possible, I will use the remove office 97 procedure, run error checks, and see if a reinstall works. I do not know what caused the boot error. Everything except word 97 seems to work.     - Solution to Word Runtime Errors!! I had been having a problem opening Word email attachements - I would get an error message: "Runtime error Program:C:\Program Files\ Microsoft Office\ Office 10\ WINWORD.EXE Abnormal program termination" Clicking on the "ok" button would close everything out. I posted a question on this site earlier, but the solutions seemed a little daunting to me. A trip through the Microsoft Knowledge Base didn't seem much better - I figured I'd end up doing more harm than good. I finally came across this site, though: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/921541/en-us It's a little program you can download from Microsoft called Guided Help. It does all of the troubleshooting and repair work for you. If you don't like what it does, you can undo it all by just running the program again and selecting "undo". I didn't need to do that, though, because it fixed my problem right away. Just thought I'd share this with anyone else who might be having similar problems.     - Word problems after installing the Beta 2 Technical Refresh I installed the Office Beta 2 technical Refresh and Compatability Pack this evening. After this, have had a number of problems with the Office 2007 Beta I did not have before!! 1. I suppose I caused my own problem. Yesterday, I deleted Norton Anti-Virus 2003 because I kept getting some error message which told me that the CCL or something like that had failed and that it was from Symantec.     - formular editor bug when I am editing the formulars using the formular-editor, I found such an error: 1. click the formular-editor symbol 2. in the formular-editor page, select "style->text" in the menu 3. enter utilization = (between "utilization" and "=" there is a blank) what I am expecting is that the formular should at least be look like "utilization =", but actually it looks like "utilizatio n =", it seems that a blank is automatically added between "utilizatio" and "n".     - Hex edit word document's password I recently lost a password to a MSword document i had saved and while trying to figure out a way to recover the password i came across these instructions on numerous websites: 1.) Open a protected document in MS Word 2.) Save as "Web Page (*.htm; *.html)", close Word 3.) Open html-document in any Text-Editor 4.) Search "<w:UnprotectPassword>" tag, the line reads something like that: <w:UnprotectPassword>ABCDEF01</w:UnprotectPassword> 5.) Keep the "password" in mind 6.) Open original document (.doc) with any hex-editor 7.) Search for hex-values of the password (reverse order!) 8.) Overwrite all 4 double-bytes with 0x00, Save, Close 9.) Open document with MS Word, Select "Tools / Unprotect Document" (password is blank) Apperently this is a loophole someone discovered that allows anybody to gain access to a protected word or excel document. But why the hell would you be hacking into a protected document to change the password if you can already open it to begin with?? This is so stupid.     - word 2003 slow start, or no start on fresh i I had a recent system failure so decided to take the opportunity to get a new hard drive and a fresh start. After loading Office 2003 everything was fine until I tried Word. An error message stated that Word failed to start last time, and then starts me in safe mode. After I close it, the next time I start Word it starts right away, but any subsequent start takes about 4 minutes to start. I've renamed Normal.dot to normal.old and it will start right away the next run, but after that it goes back to the safe mode start, or the 4 minute delay start. From what I can tell there haven't been any new macros, although I did install winfax, but I don't think it ran any macros, at least I can't find any. Sometimes after it does start I get another message: "com error.\OfficeAddin.cpp line 220 (232) Code=88a01a8 I also ran a virus check, clean.     - Why are menus flat and gray in Office 2003? When I first installed Office 2003, all the tool bars and buttons shared the look and feel (appearence) of the XP Pro settings in Windows.     - .Net 1.1 fails to automate Word 2000 My machine: XP Pro SP2, using .Net 1.1 The annoying thing is that this used to happen intermittently, now it's happening most of the time. My VB.NETapp needs to build a Word doc programatically, but the error I am now geting frequently is 'Access is denied' when I execute the following line: w = new Word.Application The app is set to impersonate my account, which has admin privileges on the machine.     - word 2007 B2 TR - stops working Everytime I start word as a standalone it pops up a message that it has stopped working and offers to check for a solution. It never finds one. I did not see this until I updated to the TR. I am running on Vista 5728. The machine is part of a domain. Intersesting is though that it seems to work fine when using Outlook to create a message. Excel stops with the same error but only once in a while. I have done everything from a reinstall to actually wiping out the whole machine and starting from scratch. The result is the same. I have another machine, which is fine with the same version of Windows. It is not connected to a domain or using an exchange server. Any thoughts?     - Disappearing footers I'm using Word 2000, working in conjunction with a separate platform -- HotDocs 2005 Professional. Hot Docs, if you're not familiar with it, creates basically a merge file using IF fields, etc. The user can create their own specific templates based on individual needs. The templates are filled by user input within HotDocs and then exported to the word processor. The template I've created has several (14) section breaks in it -- either next pages (most) or continuous (minimal -- maybe 2 of them). I've also used footers in my template for page numbers. None are linked to "same as previous." In the template the footers seem to be formatted fine -- everything seems to work. However, when the document is merged and exported to Word 2000, the footers work in the first two sections and then stop all together -- they don't appear in the merged/imported document. I've checked the page setup both within the template and within the merged document. The bottom margins and footer margins are within the printed area. I can't see a code in page setup or in the footer menu that would cause the footer to stop. What am I doing incorrectly, please. Thank you.     - Word2003 DDE Error using Access2000 Hi, I've recently tried to run a Word2003 mail merge document with Access2000 and for an unknown reason, I get the error that the DDE connection could not be re-established! When I using the same document with Access2003 or Excel2000/2003 it works fine. When I use Word2000 with Access2000, this combination works fine also.
