Hi Matt,

Word uses ~$ temp files while working. Closing Word in a
normal manner will usually remove the temp files.
More information on the temp files can be found here.

Hi,
On the same topic, my working directory just accumulates temp files, and
then crashes; often at about 12-15 temp files. (most of the saved files
already saved and closed over an hour or so)
How can i stop this happening?

Where are you saving the documents? That is, where is your "working
directory"?

Hi,
My own elected directory;
"c:\msoffice\winword\randall\work"; does it matter?
i should say, perhaps that I save using a macro which is a relic fromoffice
97 and copies the file elsewhere as well, by "copy" command, and renames it
to save it elsewhere as well.
; perhaps that makes a difference?
Randall
Copy to directory varies;
"c:\winword\aaa" if starts with letter "a"
SaveAs directory, new name; varies;
"c:\winword\index

PS
The files often have links and/or embedded sheets for excel files (and Excel
not currently installed); could that be it?; how do I fix it if so?
Thanks, Randall

The reason I asked was to determine whether you were saving to a removable
drive (floppy, flash drive, CD, or whatever) or to a network drive (which
can have problems related to "packet signing"). It's hard to say whether
your macro is part of the problem or not, but FWIW there is a macro with
similar functionality available at Graham Mayor's download site
(http://www.gmayor.com/downloads.htm).

Thanks so much for your replies;
I tried the link you suggest, but files seem to be mainly "conversion";
which one did you mean?
Thanks, randall
