Recently, when I try to cut and paste text, even very small amounts, the
computer says 'not enough memory to complete this operation. I've tried
restarting the computer, I've tried closing every other application. I've got
22 GBs free on my computer, and I can't figure out why I'm getting this
message

Have you cleared your TEMP directory?

See this article for more info...

If that doesn't help, you can find more suggestions in this TechTrax

Maybe your temp folder is clogged up with abandoned junk. The temp folder is
normally at Documents and Settings, Username, Local Settings, Temp. When all
applications are closed, this folder should be empty - so delete everything
that has been abandoned there. You may need to reboot to clear it
completely.

this is really helpful -- but the problem is, I use a mac... wasn't able to
find a similar 'temp' folder on a mac. any ideas?

OK. There is a MACWORD newsgroup on this server where you'll find several
experience MAC Word users that will be able to advise. Post your query with
them.
