I am running Windows 2000 professional. For the last
month, whenever I start Word I get the following
message "preparing to install." I click cancel and then
after another error message that reads Windows 9.0, which
I also cancel, the program will open. It seems to
function properly thereafter.
I have browsed through the microsoft support web site and
cannot find a solution. Can anyone explain what is going
on and how I can correct this malfunction?

Thanks,

Try reregistering Word. From Start, Run type in

winword /r

and press OK. If that doesn't work, have you changed your Windows Log in
recently? Do you have Admin rights on your computer?
