I am using Word 2003 SP2. When I try to select "Open", either from File or
the folder symbol on the tool bar, I get the message"

Compile error in hidden module: modShadowMacros

How can I correct this problem?

Sorry, I wasn't clear enough. My problem begins after Word is open. I am
trying to get to a .doc file using "Open" in the File menu. Word works fine,
i.e. I can open a .doc file by double clicking on it. I just can't open it
from within Word.

Check Tools | Macro | Macros to see if there is a macro (not in the Word
Commands list) named FileOpen. If so, it is hijacking Word's built-in
command and trying to run macros in the module cited. You can also get
information about this type of message (which usually comes from an add-in)
from section 4 of
