    - heading style defaults I read somewhere that if I tried to delete an in-built heading style, I couldn't and that Word would simply reset it to the heading's default. --- I can't figure out how to 'try to delete' a heading style Going back to the heading's default would suit me perfectly. When editing a paper for someone from Korea, I introduced heading styles so that I could make a Table of Contents, and saved the modified heading styles to the template. Later I realized that the heading styles I was working on (from a Korean computer, typing in English) were based on Normal style which included Korean - so that the heading styles on my computer now include Korean (although they are based on MY Normal style which uses US English as the default). It works, but I would like to remove the Korean language residue. I have tried looking into the language part of modify, but I can't see that there is anything there to work with to delete something - only to add a language (I can see that I need to learn advanced templates - but right now, I just want to get things back to where they were.)     - Macros-enable or disable Every time I turn on Word 2002 there is a message to enable or disable a Macro-I have tried to follow the instructions because I think it has something to do with a Certificate, but nothing works. The macro that is showing up is c:\program files\microsoft office\office 10 \startup\LEXlink.dot. This obviously has something to do with a LEXIS program I installed, and I am really not sure if I will need this macro.     - Show/ Hide Symbol I am using Office XP with all the service pak's. In my word documents the show/hide symbol appears.     - WINWORD.EXE- Application Error.......The memory could not be "read" When I try to open an existing file and even opening a new file I ge this error message: Microsoft Word: WINWORD.EXE - Application Error The instruction at "0x01f6216b" referenced memory at "0x00000000". Th memory could not be "read". I've been on the Microsoft website and installed ALL the Office update as well as ALL the Windows updates my computer needed, after scannin for updates.     - Hyperlinks won't format Hey guys, thanks in advance. Have Word 2000 and recently it hasn't been letting me format any hyperlinks. When I do type one in it looks like this {HYPERLINK "http://www.yahoo.com"}, without being blue or underlined, just the black text. The same problem happens when I try to copy/paste from a web page. All of the hyperlinks revert to text that look like the example above. I've gone through the tools -> autocorrect path and checked the format box and unchecked it and also reinstalled word, but nothing seems to help. Any suggestions.     - Delete Block & Home problems I used to Block text, hit Delete, and it was gone. Now I get a little message on the left end of the Statue Bar that says "Delete Block No(Yes)"-- how do I get back to a simple one-step delete?? (It works OK in other programs, just not Word). Also, when in mid-page in Word, I used to hit "Home" and the cursor immediately jumped to the beginning of the line.     - Problem with Inserting objects from file in Word XP I have a problem with Word XP that just started to occur. The 256 bytes are copied from Normal.dot attached to the current document. (The first 128 bytes can be found exactly in the original Normal.dot file). Confirmed by examining the documents and normal.dot using a hex editor; for several different documents and 4 different normal.dot's since its happening to 4 people on 4 different computers).     - Word documents frozen I have Microsoft Office XP Pro SE (2002) loaded on a Windows 2000 PC. I started experiencing problems with Word files freezing up, first intermittantly which progressed to every time I try to open a new or existing file. I can type one or two letters and then it freezes. If I do Control, Alt, Delete and cancel out of it, often it unfreezes and I can type another letter or two, but then it freezes again. I have tried all the fixes that I found listed but nothing helped, including uninstalling both Office and Windows and reinstalling. I then reformatted the hard drive and started fresh, hoping that if it was due to a corrupt Registry, then the problem would be fixed. But exactly the same thing is happening. I have spent so much time on this and I still can't use Word. Now I am wondering whether it is a compatability problem with other software. I have Adobe Acrobat 5, Symantec Antivirus Client, and the All-in-Wonder Radeon 8500DV installed. Has anyone heard of incompatibility issues with these products? I hope someone can help!     - Symbols in Equation Editor do not work Whenever I use Equation Editor, the =, + and - symbols appear correctly when I type, but when I close the Equation Editor box they are covered by strange black symbols, circles and other shapes. It also happens with symbols like alpha and beta. Sometimes symbols in normal text i.e. not in Equation Editor, do not show themselves correctly either, although =, + and - do. Equation Editor works fine in WordPad though. A friend said it may be due to my printer, which I am having problems with, as it may be unable to print the symbols and so they do not show up properly on screen. However, I uninstalled the printer and the problem has not gone away. PLEASE can anyone help? On an unrelated (probably?) note, my Word has a small faint "half open square" made up of two short lines with the point of the half square nearest to the text, in each corner of every page above/below and to the left/right of all the text.     - Locking Documents I am using Microsoft Word 2000 SR-1 on a Windows ME system. My word documents sometimes lock up on me. I am the only user and not on a network. How are these documents locking up, and what can I do to unlock them ? I checked the Microsoft site, and it says to use CTRL+ALT+DELETE to open the Windows Security dialog box, but when I do that, I only have choice to end task.     - Word 2002 Hangs in Open dialog Box In Word 2002 (10.5815.4219) SP-2 when I open the Open Dialog box and click the down arrow on the Look in: field Word hangs for about a minute. It evetually comes back with the diretory listing. If I have switched to another app while waiting, the directory listing window apears in the app I have switched to(Just the directory listing window not the entire Open Dialog).     - Microsoft Word Crashes I have Microsoft Word 2000 installed on my Windows 2000 computer an everything works fine. However there is another computer in the office. Both are connected vi the network but if I shutdown the second computer then Word 200 crashes with a GPF error and does not work again until I turn on th computer. In essense, word does not function without the secon computer being active and connected to the network?     - msword 2002 problem I hope you can help. Installed MSword2002. When I type my page it becomes black and the type is hidden due to the font color also being black. Anything I enter on the page is typed under this black screen. If I hit enter or pg down I see a full page of black as if the page has been selected or highlighted.     - Very Weird Problem with Word I have Word 2002 that came shipped with my PC together with Works Suite 2002. Had been running sluggishly so I thought I would Remove then Add using add/remove.     - MS 97 used with Athlon XP1700 (1.5GH) I used Word 97 OK on old 330MH processor. It worked fine. But my faster new processor is causing Word to overlook text data pasted in from an outside program. Case in point: I send Bible scriptures to the Word 97, using the paste command ^(v) from a 'side by side' running program. Sometimes the send 'appears' to have worked, but no scripture text appears in Word. Maybe another 'send or two' will cause it to be accepted. Also I call for a single spacing between scriptures. This spacing changes, sometimes one, maybe two spaces the next time. Also the text scroll speed gets out of hand, too fast! If you try to select text to highlight, when you hit the bottom of the screen, it goes into overdrive to the end of the text. CAN THE SCROLL SPEED BE SLOWED DOWN? Any solutions?     - Office 2003 - EVAL Hi everyone, I had installed the 30 day Eval copy of office 2003 for myself and the office manager here, to test it out. Everything was working fine for a couple of weeks, and then one morning, we both had latency issues opening up word and excel. I had uninstalled and then reinstalled, still the same problem. This happens whether we're opening an existing document, or if we open just the app and then open the file from there. This also happens whether it be a new doc created in 2003, or one that was created in XP and then opened in 2003. I have gone to http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/ProbsOpeningWord.htm but i am not sure if any of these solutions can help out with 2003.     - Why is the document messed up after 'Print Preview'? It happened on two of my XP Word files each of which is less than 1MB. After I pressed the 'print preview' button, the document got messy with figures overlapping each other and a lot of messy characters. I closed the file without saving it, and opened it again, but it was still the same.     - Date form fields fails to update when opening saved doc I have many letters that are used over and over again and I have set them up with form fields to automatically enter the current date when the letter is opened. Without seing the fields, only the row is seen, not the if. After merging the main document, it shows all: the first category, the table header and the row. The error message is not exactly accurate, rather more a default when
Windows doesn't know what is wrong. From your description, favourite is a
corrupt printer driver. Try checking with the printer manufacturer's site to
see if there is a newer driver available, then delete and reinstall the
printer.
