    - Unable to edit an embedded object Hey, can somebody please help me ? I embedded a Microsoft Excel Worksheet into Microsoft Word. After that, I clicked outside and continued typing some text. When I wanted to change some data in the worksheet, I double-clicked on the object which should open excel and allow me to change it - but all I get is a pop-up which says that "Word cannot open the document: user does not have access privileges".     - convert word to pdf I used acrobat 7 pro for some time to convert my office stuff to pdf. Than sudenly come error message about last use of acrobat and everything went bad. Firstly I have to remove acrobat from disabled items in each office application, but this did not help. Than I reinstaled Acrobat, this didn't help, and also office 2003. After this actions acrobat is still not able to convert any of office documents to pdf, but is happy to convert any other supported format.(Hmmm interesting...)     - Trouble Getting Certain .doc files to Print in Duplex Miode on an HP G85 Printer For more than 3 years, I have used the printer above successfully to print documents in both non-duplex and duplex mode. However, recently, I've experienced problems getting certain .docs to print even part of the document. All applications that print, do so in duplex and non-duplex mode properly. That is, they print any other document correctly. The problem is that certain Word documents simply won't print at all. That is, under normal settings Word sends the documents in their entirety to the spool, but for reasons I can't explain, the spooler never prints them. I'm fairly confident that these .doc files are somehow corrupted. However, I have yet to determine how they are corrupted, so I've had no way to remove the corruption. The things they all have in common are that the contain graphic images, and they contain large (larger than a printed page) tables.     - slow response PC has Win2K SP4, 384MB RAM, and is a 2.4GHz Celeron. Office 2003 Pro is installed. In Word while doing massive copy paste from one doc to another, Word seems to get bogged down so badly that nothing else is possilbe on the PC. Even before the edit operation begins, Word seems to fluctuate from about 30% CPU usage up to maybe 80% when nothing has been asked of it. This behavior was also present with this document under Word 2000. Same doc in Wordpad bogs it down briefly to load it, then CPU usage returns to 0. AFAIK, no macros are in operation here.     - Trouble Printing Doc Two-Sided with Word 2003 Under WinXP Pro SP2 Either Word 2003 or Windows SP Pro SP2 ignores the print settings that I select when printing the document that has background printing disabled. Instead of printing two-sided in keeping with the way the HP G85 AIO Color Printer works, which is automatic two-sided printing of each page as they print, something mistakenly assumes that the printer's only two-sided method is manual. So, it prints all of the pages on one side, then a dialogue pops up telling me to turn the pages over and reinsert them into the hopper to print side 2. That's not what I need. It's certainly not what I want.     - Replace uses all caps I am having an issue when I am editing a document, and I want to find and replace words. The feature finds and replaces all the text but the text is all caps.     - Errors Saving Files. I have an interesting error. Windows XP Pro running Word2000 This happens when I create a new file, then try to save it on a Win98 "Server" share. It will only save the file if I don't attempt to alter the "save" name.     - Trouble With Document in Word 2003 Under WinXP Pro I have a couple of documents that won't print. A while back, I narrowed the problem down to the presence of Index entries in the documents' bodies. Problem was, there is no Index in the document. The text that's causing problems was copied into the document from another document, which had proper Index entries in the body and an Index at the end of the document. When I copied the test, I could not see the Index entries. I've tried scanning the doc for "XE" entries, which I deleted. However, something else is still preventing the document from printing.     - Error when creating links in Work Doc I have created a User Form and when I send the form to another user, the links no longer work properly. It shows an error where the links were. Error is "Error, not a valid link." I am now also getting this error on some of the forms I created prior to sending.     - MS Word is doing weird things. Word 97 from Office 97, installed on XP Professional w/SP2 & security updates. I'm logged on to my computer as myself. I'm the only user on this computer. When I attempt to open a MS Word document I've previously created, I get a strange message. "C:\...\Some Document.doc is being used by my User Name. Do you want to make a copy?" Some Document.Doc is not the actual document name; User Name is not my actual user name. I substitute them here for the real names. The document is there behind the dialog box when the message pops up. If I click "Cancel" I can work with the document. If I click OK, it gives me another strange message: "Word cannot open the document. Try one or more of the following: *On the File menu, click Open to open the document *Make sure the document has a .DOC extension (C:\...\Some Docume...)" Clicking OK at this point also lets me work with the document. Any suggestions? I'm able to use the program, access my documents for now, but it's annoying.     - Solution to Word being slow to open documents (!) I have finally found a solution to a problem which affects Word 97 running on Windows 2000 Professional. It may also affect lots of other things. Basically some people find that opening documents in Word (particularly over a network) can take minutes, if the document is large. There are many documented causes for this, but none of the solutions ever fixed the problem for me. But please read on. The solution is quite amazing. The problem can occur when you double-click a document in Windows Explorer to open it, and is particularly bad with large documents (hundreds of pages). If the Folder Options setting in Windows Explorer is set to "Show hidden files and folders" the document can take a huge amount of time to open (several minutes), and the CPU usage while opening is low (15% to 20%). If the folder options setting is changed to "Do not show hidden files and folders" the document loads about 10 times faster, and the CPU usage is much higher while it is loading. I don't know why this happens, but the solution is to set your folder options to "Do not show hidden files and folders". Opening the document through the File/Open menu in Word will be fast if the document is not selected in Explorer, but just having the document selected in Explorer will cause the open to be slow (with Show hidden files and folders) even when opening through Word's File/Open menu. If anyone else knows why this occurs I would love to know. I have attempted to report this problem/solution to Microsoft, but I'm not sure if I've been successful and I'm not prepared to spend a long time doing this.     - MS-Word psychotic text boxes! Howdy there, all MicroSofties. My apologies for the massive cross-posting, but I am simply stymied. I'm writing a document in MS-Word. It's from MS-Office 2003 v11.5604.5606, if that information you get from the tab named "About MS-Office" means anything. This document is rife with flow charts (OK, it has eight. On the other hand, it's an 8-page document, so I imagine "rife" about suits it). In fact, that's the main reason for this document: to display and describe the flow charts. I use a lot of text boxes to hold labels; most have no border lines and no fill color. Lately, say over the last several hours, I have had text boxes behave strangely: I'll have one in one part of a figure with [wouldn't you know] text in it. Then I'll open another one in the same figure, different area, and begin typing in it. As I'm typing in the new text box, the text is appearing IN BOTH BOXES!!! Sorry for yelling there, but I don't get it. This doesn't appear to happen first thing in a new figure, but somehow after a while, it (MS Word? Office? CLIPPY?) gets this goofy notion that all text must belong to all new text boxes. I'll open another text box and yet another one, and type in one of those, and sure enough, they'll all have all the text. WTF?? Any comments, even rude ones, would be welcome. Thanks a bunch. Dale.     - Tracking, AutoCorrect and Numbering I'm editing a document and have Tracking turned on. When I use any of my custom auto correct entries, Word will randomly change the numbering further down the document and track the changes as if I'd purposely changed the numbering. Worse, it adjusts the numbering far enough down the document that the affected numbering is just below the bottom of the screen and not visible until I work my way down the document.     - Problems with Spell check I have a 300+ page document that I need to have spell checked. For som reason, WORD only checks certain parts of the document. I have foun several misspelled words, but I cannot seem to get WORD to recogniz them. I have tried selecting and then checking, I have tried to g into the edit/replace and then to format and to language and then t turn off spell check. I have turned it off, on, etc. There is a gra check mark in the box before I do anything.     - KB 907417 & 908002 Hi; Just to confirm, if I have run the latest windows update and it shows no updates for Word, then the fixes in KB907417 should be on my machine - correct? I have never run the fix in KB907417 and on my dev machine it has version 7.10.5077.0 but my test system, which shows no pending office updates, has 7.10.3191.0. So it looks like I do have to install it. Do we run this same update for Word 2002 and Word 2000? Or is there a different update in their cases? And for our customers, I assume we have to point them at this fix? Or will it be included in the Windows update soon? Or can we include it in our install? Does it just update this one dll? For KB908002, this is added to the setup program. However, we use WIX (the official Microsoft installer) for our setup. Word was = working fine until I recently installed the proofing tools 2003. I also = installed the SP2 update for both Office and its proofing tools. Now = word crashes regularly with Arabic files. For instance, whenever I copy = and paste an Arabic file from Explorer into Word, then save the file, = I'm unable most of the time to exit Word properly. As soon as I try to = exit Word, I get the following error message: "Microsoft office word has = encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the = inconvenience." When I hit on the close button (the red cross), it takes = about a minute for the error message to go and to get Word back on its = own-with a new blank document. This has been regularly happening this = past week, since installing the proofing tools and their SP2 update, and = seems to be limited to Arabic documents only. It neither occurs with = English nor French documents-at least not for now.     - orientation of envelope printing Win XP Home, Office XP Pro, HP 990 printer. About a month ago, envelopes of all sizes began printing 90 degrees off proper orientation. Attempts at detection and repair have failed. Since I have read several other people have had this problem with different printers, I can only conclude this is a problem with Microsoft Word.     - Word freezes coming back from hibernate If I am in word and walk away from my computer with a document open, word freezes when I return the computer from hibernation mode! Any suggestions? Word keeps giving me this message "The measurement must be between 0.05 and
81.9 pt." when I click on Format. I am unable to use formatting because of it.
What can I do to make it go away?
