    - Software restriction policy: problem opening documents I have set up a software restriction policy on my Vista Ultimate PC. This works fine. However, as a side affect I can no longer open PDF (adobe reader) or Word (2007) documents from a CD or USB flash drive by double clicking them. They will open if dropped onto an already running program. They open fine from the main drive. If I double click on a word document on a flash drive (F:) I get "Windows cannot find F:\test.doc. Make sure you typed the name correctly and then try again. I can open a DPF by dropping in onto an already running instance of adobe reader. If I try the same with test.doc on a running copy of Word it opens in a strange mode where I am unable to edit it properly. F:\Test.txt opens fine by double clicking. I am a limited user and user account control is on. I have restricted it so ordinary users can only run programs from "program files" and the "windows" directory. Do Word and Adobe Reader use some special mechanism to open the files that is being interfered with? Text files appear to open OK. Can anyone help?     - All Formatting Changes when I change 1 Paragraph Help!!! When I am working on a Word 2003 doc. and change the formatting of 1 line, the entire document assumes that formatting style! I have to hit the "Undo" button, and the remainder of the document returns to its previous formatting, and only the area 1 wanted to change actually remains changed. This is most frustrating when I want to change several types of formatting. For example, if I want to bold and center a heading, I highlight ONLY the heading. I hit "Bold" and the entire doc. becomes bold. I then hit "Undo" and all but the heading return to their previous non-bold font. Then I have to repeat the process for "Center."     - Error in replacing words via highlighting [Error in replacing words via highlighting] I have an error in deleting words. In the past, if I have any typing mistake, e.g. I typed "Appla" instead of "Apple", I can highlight "a" and then type "e" to replace the "a" by "e".     - word office assistant is not changing due to insuficient word mem. some days back i upgraded my MS word application through windows update, but since after that i noticed that i am unable to choose another office assistant due to the message which says "There is not enough memory to complete this operations".     - Global Template/Normal.dot issue I know this has been addressed several time throughout the newgroup. And I have tried all the fixes suggested. However, I am still experiencing a problem. I run Windows XP Pro Version 2002 SP 2, with Microsoft Office 2003. Not only do I get the question about a change to the global template, (and this is where my slight difference comes into play) BUT I also litterally can get several WINWORD.EXE applications running even though I don't have Word or Outlook actually running. The only way I know that I have several instances of WINWORD.EXE running, is that my computer will lock up and I have to do the famous "CTRL + ALT + Delete" and will see it in my list of processes. I have to individually 'end process' them. At first I thought it was a toolbar that I had to install that was interferring, but I just don't know anymore. I use a program called Reference Manager and there is a toolbar that I can have running in Word so that I can create reference lists for articles. There are a few others in my office that also have this program installed, however, no one else has this interference issue; so I don't know that Reference Manager toolbar is the issue.     - Word 2007 Spellcheck not working I have just started using Word 2007 (was using office 2000) and my spellcheck is only catching the grammatical mistakes but not the spelling errors. I.E. only green curlys and no red ones. I have already ensured that: "Do not check spelling and grammar automatically" "Detact language automatically" "Hide spelling errors in this document only" "Hide grammar error in this document only" are ALL UNchecked.     - Can't Make Line Shape Longer I am using the drawing feature of Word 2007. I draw a horizontal line by holding down the Shift key while drawing. Later, if I want to make the line longer, I select it, hold down the Shift key and drag one of the ends of the line. This is supposed to let me make the line longer without changing the orientation of the line. What it does instead is make the length of the line extend clear off the end of the document, to what seems like infinity.     - comments initials change when printing hello everyone, i have been having this little problem and it's driving me nuts. word 2003 when i add a comment on my document my initials show up. and as i add on more comments, the comments with my initials get numbered. now the problem is when i print them. my initials disappear and they get replaced by other letter(s). sometime just a letter. the comments remain and the numberings. so in summary, my initials in my comments get replaced by letter(s) when i print the document. any help would be appreciated. thanks in advance.     - "Invalid Source Specified" Word 2007 I have WORD 2007 OFFICE. When I use the INSERT CITATION button, and I enter a new source first, the citation that appears in the document then always says INVALID SOURCE SPECIFIED. And, when I try to insert the WORKS CITED in the document, by using the BIBLIOGRAPHY button, this appears in the document, "THERE ARE NO SOURCES IN THIS DOCUMENT"-- but the 3 sources are shown in the bibliography. please HELP!!     - Cant add page border Word drives me to distraction. I,m using an A4 page, the set up knows its an A4 page but when I try to add a border to an entire page it only does it on both sides.     - blank document has symbol I've reviewed and tried the fixes in "blank document not blank" but they don't work. I recently installed Word 2002 onto my new laptop. Its operating system is Vista. I have the same program on my office computer & it works fine but from the first, when I open Word the blank document has a border (for lack of a better word) in each corner. It looks like part of a square... top left corner has right and bottom of square, top left has left and bottom, etc. I can't click on them or access them in any way.     - Insert Symbol causes loop In Word 2002, the Insert Symbol function frequently enters a loop, where the window updates continuously, and no commands are recognized. Pressing escape repeatedly and clicking on the top bar manages to shut the window and return to Word, but the function is rendered useless. This typically occurs when a symbol from a particular font has been used, and another font is chosen from inside the Insert Symbol dialogue, which does not utilize that particular slot. First inserting a Wingdings symbol and later trying to choose a Unicode font is a good example of what would trigger this. I have experienced the problem on several different computers.     - THIS DOCUMENT COULD NOT BE REGISTERED ERROR IN WORD when opening a new empty document or any existing document in WORD (2003) I now always receive the error message : "This document could not be registered. It will not be possible to create links from other documents to this document" Other than this annoying message, there does not appear to be any other effect. This message only recently started appearing. I don't know what the message means, I could find no reference in the Office help site to this message, nor any reference to "registering a document" anywhere in the Word help. I have tried running regsvr32 for old32.dll - no effect on the problem. we also tried completely uninstalling MS Office 2003 and reinstalling it - also no help. Another recent problem of much more significance is that I now am unable to use MS Access at all, whenever I attempt to open an existing database or just open the bare program I always get the error message "A problem occurred while MS Office Access was communicating with the OLE server or ActiveX control" It is impossible to regain control of Access, whenever we close the message box, it just reopens again, and we cannot do anything at all in Access including closing down the program. When I insert a footnote, I get an additional complete footer above the footnote, which is itself above the standard document footer. This additional footer is from a previous document.     - my paragraphs condense to less than an inch when I print. Just starting today, I typed up a document and sent it to print and as soon as it printed, the paragraphs condensed all their text to less than half an inch (all the letters sit on top of each other).     - Time/date on comments keeps getting reset I am working in Word 2003 with a document containing comments from many times and dates. Within the past day or so, I've seen that when I roll over the comments, they give a time/date within the past few minutes, as though I've just entered them all.     - Word 2003 spelling in Swedish language does not work My installation is Word 2003 in Swedish. When I create documents in English the spelling and grammer works fine, but in Swedish I get the error message: "Microsoft Office Word cannot check the spelling or grammer in this document. This function is not installed. Do You want to install it now?" (I have translated the message to English). When I press YES I get the error message: "Microsoft Office Word cannot check spelling or grammer in this document. The function is not available" When I press OK I get next error message: "Microsoft Office Word cannot check spelling or grammer in this document. An error occured and the function does not longer work correctly. Do You want to repair it now?" When I press YES I get #2 of the messages above. After a few iterations spelling the error messages does no longer appear, and spelling is obviously disabled in the present document.     - Speech recognition error I can use dictation without problem in the spreadsheet and database applications in Works 8.0 and Internet Explorer. However I am unable to dictate into a document within Word 2002; it works OK in the help dialogue box however. When trying to use it within a document, the Dictation tab activates Voice Command, unless I open up Help and then it works fine. Voice Command tab works normally in all applications I mentioned.     - Word 2007 Annoying Problem Whenever I close Word 2007, even a blank document, I get the "M/S Word has encountered a problem and needs to close" error. It then automatically restarts and can keep going like that endlessly until or unless the 'automatic restart' box is unticked. It's driving me nuts.     - Track Changes I have a user that is trying to record his track changes but the auther color is the same as the previous auther. How can this be if MS Word is set to Auther? According to what i have read it should auto pick atleast eight different colors on its own. I have loaded the same document onto my computer and i receive a different color for each auther. So, it seems the issue is isolated to the users computer. However, I have no idea what this setting could be because i have set the users comptuer to the same settings as mine. Any ideas???     - Ordered and Unordered Lists We have an internal application done in Visual Studio 2003, VB.Net, which generates Word documents. I have a document that has an ordered list where the list items are full length paragraphs (not a simple list like "Pancake Ingredients: 1. Egg, 2. Milk, 3. Mix, etc.). I went to generate this document, and when I open it up in Word 2003, everything shows fine. When I open the document in 2007 (we have the converter pack for Word 2003 to Word 2007 and vice versa), the list is gone. All the contents are there, but the numbering is gone. Is this a known bug in Word 2007, and if so, is there a workaround for it, or do we need to re-write the document in Word 2007 format (i.e. .docx or .docm)? Thanks in advance.     - Save as command I am using MS word 2003 under windows vista operating system. I get an error message (MS office word is not responding) whenever I try to save a document in a different folder (other than a default folder) using "save as" command.     - Wrong font when document opens I have document that was partly in English and partly in Hebrew. I have opened and closed it in the past with no problems.     - Tools menu will not expand I can't get my tools menu to expand. I've tried both suggestions I've found here, resetting (deleting) the registry entry, and the winword.exe /a (which works for only for that instance of opening Word, but not when opening subsequent documents or instances of the program.     - "Wait for the printer" message Hi all I am using Office 2003, did run Office update ActiveX and everything is fine on my PC. Now when I open a Word document I got the message "The printer has not yet responded, but the Microsoft Office program may be able to proceed without printer information.     - Word Cannot obtain the data from the excel.sheet.8 link. I am trying to insert a link from an excel file into a word document using paste special, then clicking the paste link option and then selecting unformatted text. When I do this, it get Word Cannot obtain the data from the excel.sheet.8 link. This happens with any option when paste link is selected. When paste is selected it inserts the data. This normally works. We move the files around, and use a macro to change the path when the file is opened: SetLinkedImagesLocalPath(). The existing links work fine. Just can not insert new ones. If I do it the old fashioned way in type out the {LINK } field, it works fine also. My users will not go for having to type the link field out.     - Inking broken in 2007 Machine: Gateway TA6 tablet. OS: XP-Pro tablet. Problem: When a Word 2003 (.doc) file is opened then marked in ink (Review-Start Inking), and then saved as a Word 2007 document, all the ink is shifted far from the original location. Fix: Do mark-ups as you please, then before saving, click once on â??select objectsâ?? (inking ribbon), and then save. The ink will remain in the proper place. This fixes the document for all subsequent opening of the file and inkings so that you need not do the â??select objectsâ?? again; just proceed normally. Attitude Fix: *sigh*, I've nothing for that.     - Word doc. now won't open properly in word but opens fine in WordPa I actually have a bunch of the same type of document...all created in Word 2003 that for some reason, when I open them with Word, they only show the one graphic that was in the layout...all the text and other layout is gone. Then if I 'open with' WordPad or other word processors, everything is there...so I don't 'think' the file is corrupt.     - winword.exe causes problem for disk on key When I try to disconnect the usb disc on key I get a warning that I can't disconnect now. If I open the task manager and manually close the winword.exe, I can safely disconnect. Is it only me? If not, what causes that? Why does winword.exe works even after closing all word windows? Not a jpeg image? It would help if you said what it IS, not what it
ISN'T. You can extract the image from the Word document as described at
http://www.gmayor.com/extract_images_from_word.htm , open the image file
in a graphics editing program, and save as or export to a jpeg file.
