What version of Word are you using? Can you describe exactly what steps you
are taking?

Try this:

1. Insert the bookmark (select the word/words desired, then choose Insert -
Bookmark, etc. at the destination where you want the hyperlink to take you).

2. Move to the location where you want the hyperlink to appear, and choose
Insert - Hyperlink; click the Bookmark button, navigate to the desired
bookmark, select it, choose OK - OK.

You should now be able to jump to the destination location by holding down
Ctrl and clicking on the hyperlink.

Herb, Thank you, I have tried this and what happens is the link takes me to the
top of the document not to the book mark. If I remove the text box then a
link from the subject takes me directlyt to the destination. How do think I
can make the hyperlink from the text box take me to the bookmark?
Thanks Howard Goodrick

You didn't mention a text box before. Can you explain the structure of your
document so I can try to replicate what you're doing?

Is the hyperlink in the text box? Is the bookmarked text in the text box?
Neither?

For what it's worth, I can put the hyperlink, the bookmarked text, or both
into text boxes, and it still works. So, I suspect you're doing something
different.

Herb,
Thanks your message. I thought I had mentioned text box in the original
question.
I am writing a manual for a client. I have created some flow charts. I need
to hyperlink text in the text boxes to various places in the same manual in
same doc.
Whenever I try to hyperlink from a tex box it simply takes me to either the
top of the bottom of the doc, not the selected bookmarks. Currently the
destination bookmarks are spread about the doc usually at chapter headings or
in the contents table. When I hyperlink text in table cells to bookmarks its
works OK.
Try testing it on 3 pages. Put a word in a text box on the last page and
book mark a work in the 1 st and 2 nd pages then hyperlink the text in the
box to the work (bookmarked) in the second page. With me it goes to top of
the doc viz page 1.
Thanks for your continued assistance with this.

I tried the example you give, and it works perfectly (i.e., the way it's
supposed to work).

Have you tried this on a brand new document, and do you get the identical
behavior? Also, what version of Word are you using? That sometimes can make
a difference.

If you get the identical behavior in a brand new document, then we have to
start considering various kinds of corruption that might be causing the
altered behavior.

To create my 3-page document, I typed:

=rand(14,14)

and pressed Enter. This creates a bunch of instances of "The quick red
fox..." I then placed a sentence in a text box on page 3, bookmarking the
word "brown". Next, I bookmarked text on pages 1 and 2. On page 2, I
inserted a hyperlink to "brown". When I Ctrl+Click the hyperlink, Word jumps
to the word Brown in the textbox on page 3.

Herb,
Thanks again. I am using V 5.1.2600 (2002 on o/s Win 2000XP )
I got yr msg regarding actions with foxes. I replicated your scenario, put
the bunch of foxes in the second page, returned down and created a text box
in page 4 with
"brown" having previously bookmarked a brown from page 2, then hyperlinked
the text in box to land on the brown I bookmarked.
Still we went to top of page 1.

I created a simpler scenario on one page of another new doc, with a Red and
a Brown fox and created a text box with Red and Brown, both hyperlinks took
me to the blank top line of the page.

So I am afraid I am at your mercy.
Best regards
Howard Goodrick

Can you start Word using the /a switch? This ignores [most] add-ins,
registry settings, and normal.dot foibles. With Word started in this "raw"
mode (as I like to call it), if you repeat the scenario, do you still get
the misbehavior, or does it now work correctly?

To start Word with the /a switch, the easiest way (for me, anyway) is to
create a new shortcut for starting Word. In my case, the shortcut's target
looks like this (yours might be different):

"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10\WINWORD.EXE" /a
