Can you start Word using the /a switch? This ignores [most] add-ins,
registry settings, and normal.dot foibles. With Word started in this "raw"
mode (as I like to call it), if you repeat the scenario, do you still get
the misbehavior, or does it now work correctly?
To start Word with the /a switch, the easiest way (for me, anyway) is to
create a new shortcut for starting Word. In my case, the shortcut's target
looks like this (yours might be different):
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10\WINWORD.EXE" /a
