mw word disappears when minimize and try to reopen
Why does ms word disappear when I minimize and try to reopen? Here is the
situation that happens daily: I open ms word and then minimize it to access
another page. Then I go back to ms word and click on the icon on the bottom
of the screen to pull the page up then POOF--it all disappears. I have
experimented with this and it happens whether or not I am using multiple
pages, other programs, the internet, etc...It happens frequently. This has
been an ongoing problem for several months. I have uninstalled and
reinstalled my software but it continues to have this error. I have Mc Afee
and Ad Aware, I have "cleaned" my hardware, I have "defragemented" my files.

"file permission error" warning
When saving the same Word document now, after having used it for a long time
continually, I receive a warning that says: "Word cannot save your document
due to a file permission error." This does not allow me to save the new
changes to the document right away, but if I try to save it again, it does.
The warning is recurrent and I cannot get rid of it. What do I do to
circumvent this problem? Tag: hardware Tag: 105709
normal.dot
I just got a new Dell Dim E510 computer with Windows XP and I installed Word
2000 from MS Works Suite and some add ins also got installed. If I look in
Add/Remove it lists it shows the following:
Microsoft Works 2000
Microsoft Works 2000 Setup Launcher
Word In Works Suite Add-in
On my new computer with XP:
When I got this new XP computer I had my files and settings transferred
(including Word files). My computer came with WordPerfect ,but I did not
like it so I installed Word 2000 as mentioned above.
When I close WORD documents, I get many messages re changes have been made
to the normal dot template, changes have been made to the global template,
locked for editing etc. No matter what I select to do, I still have
trouble. I have deleted and recreated the normal.dot template according to
directions at
http://www.officearticles.com/word/about_normal_dot_in_microsoft_word.htm (I
thought these were very good directions). Dell software support had me
uninstall and reinstall WORD. I may or may not have tried to remove just
the Word Ad-Ins - I don't remember anymore. WORD has been reinstalled and
the Ad-ins are back. I need very specific step-by-step directions from an
MVP if possible on how to get rid of these messages. I understand it is not
a good idea to just close the office assistant.
On my old computer with Win. 98SE
I know these messages can be gotten rid of. When I first had Win. 98SE with
Works Suite 2000 I had the same problem. Someone at Microsoft (for a large
fee) got the problem straightened out. I do not remember exactly how it was
done. I had NAV on the Win 98SE system and there was an option to enable
office plug ins. I had to disable them because Norton always wanted to run
a virus scan on every word document I opened. That fixed the virus scan
issue. I do not have NAV on this computer. I have McAfee Security System.
I believe the other issue of always getting normal dot change messages had
something to do with the add-ins and may have been fixed by removing them;
however, I believe I was told at the time that might cause a problem. I
believe the problem has something to do with the Works 2000 Task Launcher.
I did not use any other programs in the Works Suite so I suppose this did
not matter to me. Should I just remove the Add-Ins on the XP?

In Help, you refer to "'hanging indent" with "Left Indent" icon.
In reviewing online MS Office Help on the types of "indents", the
instructions referred to a "Hanging Indent", which should have had an icon
shaped like an upward pointing arrow. However, the icon displayed was that
of a "Left Indent", which is shaped like a "box". This should be corrected.
I reached this "Help" section by searching under "Set Margins" on MS Office

Word 2003 "key" errors
I have a user converting to Office 2003, and in Word, she has found two
features that don't appear to be working:
1. When she highlights a word and presses the Delete Key, she gets a message
"Delete Block?", and she has to press Y for yes to delte the highlighted
text.
2. When she uses Ctrl+Home to get to the beginning of a document the she
gets the Find and Replace dialog box (it also works correctly with the Ctrl+G
and Ctrl+F).
Anyway, I've looked in Tools/Options and can't find anything that is turned
on that would effect this?

Compile Error - Only when Word launched from Outlook
I have a set of global templates stored in the STARTUP folder. They
perform a variety of functions customising Word for use in our company.
We have recently found that there seems to be a problem when printing
an attachment in an email message, or opening an attachment from an email
when Word is not already open.
We get a compile error "Compile error on hidden module bPrint"
We can then see that one of the templates has been disabled, and have
to enable it in the list found in Help, About MS Word.
I know that users should not be opening/printing attachments from emails,
but they still do and then phone us to complain that nothing works.
I thought that the customisation of the Normal.dot may have been causing a
problem, so I removed that a couple of weeks ago, and it doesn't seem to have
made any difference.
Has anyone seen this before or have any idea what might be causing it? It's
causing some major headaches now!

MS Word spelling in Spanish suggests the referred abreviations. This is

Word 2003: Save: File permission error
I create a document, save it with a name to MyDocuments, and start typing,
saving frequently. My documents is on Drive C, there is plenty (10's of
gigs) of space available. Then I'll get a file permission error when saving.
If I instruct it to try again, it renames the file Backup of
MyDocumentName.doc, but then gets the error again. Try again and it renames
it Backup of Backup of MyDocumentname.doc. Eventually I loose the document
or it becomes corrupted.
MS KB's indicate network problems (No, I don't think so, this is Drive C
we're talking about), or not enough space (not the problem), or anti-virus
software (well, this is MS One Care installed, but I tried disabling that and
the problem still recurrs), or issues of "page file expanding" (to eliminate
that as a possibility, I set the page file to a fixed value of 4096 min, 4096
max, so it cannot be changing!). So, now I'm stumped.

In Word 2003, I created a page of labels. Each label contains a unique
address.
In Word 2007, if I highlight an address in one of the labels and choose
"Mailings - Envelopes", an addressed envelope is generated but frequently it
uses one of the other addresses on the page and not the one highlighted. e.g.
if the text in cell A2 is highlighted, the address that appears is from cell
C1 (it is always the C1 address that appears when it goes wrong).
Note: This is when highlighting text within the label. If the label (cell)
itself is selected, the address that appears is always the left hand label in
that row.
Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong?

normal.dot
This is the one thing that has caused me the most aggrevation over the
past 6 years.
The more I read about it, the more confused I become. On my Win98Se I had
Works Suite with Word 2000 Word also has add-ins. I was constantly getting
messages about normal dot, global templates, read only files. Finally
someone fixed it somehow. I think they deleted the Word Ad-in or plug-in
and I never had that problem again.
Now I have a Windows XP. It did not come with Word pre-installed so I put
my Word 2000 on the system. I guess it put a partial Works 2000 on also and
the Word add-ins came in with the Word. I have a 30-paid software support
from Dell and they tried several things like removing the Word Add Ins from
Add/Remove, deleting normal then showing hidden files and deleting
normal.dot and even uninstalling and reinstalling Word to no avail. What is
the magic fix? Any help will be appreciated. Tag: hardware Tag: 105616

RoboHelp/Word 2002: Topic Titles/ID Automatically Changing
Iâ??m posting a problem/solution that my team ran into recently in hopes that
it will save other people time if they find it also.
Problem:
I have a Help project created on an XP machine, using RoboHelp Classic, with
Word 2002. There are over 1500 topics in the project, It is compiled as
Webhelp, contains 1,667 objects, and is 22.8 MB in size.
While working in my project this week, I noticed 4 of my topics in the
RoboHelp Explorer view suddenly had a prefix of "placeCity" in front of the
topic title. It only appeared in the explorer view and the Properties dialog,
but not in the document or topic itself. When I tried to change the topic
title in the Properties dialog and save, it acted like it saved, but when I
looked in the explorer view, they still had the strange, new prefix. Then I
noticed approximately 6 or 7 topics had the words "State" and "stockticker"
added to the topic IDs which showed up as broken links. But when I looked at
the compiled Webhelp file names, they looked normal.
I exited RoboHelp. When I went back in, I received the following message:
"RoboHelp Explorer has detected that there are unregistered routines used by
the following features in this project. -Html Topics or hotspot links to Html
pages displayed in the Help window. -Link to a Html page, displayed in the
browser. Do you want RoboHelp to make the necessary updates?"
I never saw this message before so I selected Yes. (This message also
appeared to another user on our network, crashed their computer, but their
project was fine afterwards â?? they were using a Word 2003). I don't know if
selecting Yes stopped any more chances of RoboHelp automatically renaming
topic titles and topic IDs or what it did. I was afraid I might have a virus,
so I spent a whole day running virus/spyware software. The results found NO
virus but I did have some Malware which I removed. I didn't know if this
caused my problem with RoboHelp or not.
Solution:
We had other users guide us that it could be similar to the font problem
(with KB917334) that people were currently running into. We checked and found
a Microsoft patch had been loaded around the time that our problems started:
KB917335 for Word 2002. We deleted the patch, rebooted the system, deleted
all of the rtf files from project, and then started RoboHelp. All issues were
corrected. We have now turned off automatic updates to that computer until
our release has gone out.
Any ideas on other solutions? Will this be fixed in the future? Is this a
Microsoft or an Adobe issue?
Thanks,

Having Trouble Opening documents in Word 2000
I am the IT person (such that it is) for my office. We have fairly new
computers (about a year old) that have 111 GB of space, of which only about
19 GB is used. The computers have Norton's System Works and Personal
Firewall on them.
We also have an older copy of Word - Office 2000 Professional - on the
computers. We've not had much problem with them until recently, and I
believe it was directly after I downloaded a recent update from Office and
from Norton's. I don't know which one is the problem, but I'd like to know
what to do to solve it.
Word documents open fine when you open them from anywhere BUT the "File,
Open" commands inside Word itself.
If you try to open a document from within Word, the Open dialogue and the
list of folders and documents comes up and then it freezes. You can't click
on anything, you can't open anything. Sometimes, if you wait about 5
minutes, you can click on a file that's currently in the window, but you
can't scroll over past whatever the current window is.
We've also had the problem where, if you do get it to scroll across the
screen at all, it goes directly to the end of the document list, rather than
one screen at a time, and you have no control over where it stops.
We use Word a LOT at work and I'm getting a lot of complaints and
frustration. Anything that could help would be very much appreciated. Tag: hardware Tag: 105590
