    - Anyone have Word crash when opening a Word 97 doc in Word 2003? I have Word 2003 now on my system. When I open an older file, created in Word 97, Word crashes and I can't open the file.     - Word won't open - "1033" folder problem I am running Word 2002, and recently when I tried to open it, the comp began to run Word 2002 setup and stopped with this error message: "Error 1317. Setup cannot create the folder c:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Office10\1033. Verify that the path exists in your system and that you have sufficient permissions to update it." When I try to open this folder in Windows Explorer, it says that the folder is "not accessible" and that it is "corrupt and unreadable".     - MS Word running very slow When i open ms word it takes a very long time before i am able to use it. it acts like it temporarily locks up. the screen goes white for a while and then back to word again. eventually i am able to use it and it works fine until i switch to another window (any application, it doesnt matter). when i switch back to word, it takes a very long time till i'm able to use it. i can see my document that i'm working on but the hour glass is there and everything is frozen for about 5 seconds. it does this everytime i switch windows. i have ms word 2002. any suggestions? i'm running windows xp. sp2. 1.6Ghz. 512Mb RAM. ms word 2002. i've tried reinstalling word and doesnt work. i dont have any other computer or software problems. thanks for your help in advance!     - Word document with tables. I'm getting an error message when I open a document that contains several tables. It reads something like: "One of the tables in this doument is corrupt. Please select the table and change table to text" (or vise versa, I don't remember) I've tried everything. Even cutting and pasting document to a new word document and eliminating tables.     - Extended ASCII Character Set characters converted during merge I have a problem where characters from the extended ascii character set get converted to Japanese characters during the mail merge process. My data source is a word document, as there is a known problem with these characters in txt files. The whole process is run using the Word API. It only appears to happen with certain combinations of these characters. If I open the data source, word prompts me to select a character set to mak the document readable, the default is Japanese.     - Extended Character Set Characters in Merge data converted I have an application that uses the word API to create documents that can include barcodes. The characters required to generate a Code 128 barcode include characters in the extended ascii character set. I am using a word document as merge data source, I originally use a text file but this same problem occurs with text files. Since installing Office 2003, I find that the data from the merge field containing the special characters is being converted to some dodgy character set. If I open the data source word document, I get a dialogue box asking me what character set I would like to use to make the document readable. The default is set to Japanese (Shift-JIS), if I select Windows(Default) the document opens and shows the correct characters. I can only assume that this same conversion is happening during the merge process. Apologies for the long winded explanation.     - Inserting equation, brackets; when fraction inserted, brackets di. The subject above summarises my problem. For some reason, when trying to insert an equation into a word document, if I use brackets, and follow it by a fraction, the brackets disappear.     - scanned document My old computer quit on me earlier this year. Prior to this I printed a hard copy of my resume. After purchasing a new computer I used the all in one printer to scan my resume. Since then I used my word processor to create an "office xp word 2003" version of the scanned reume. However when I send the resume by attachment I get replies that their computer rejected my resume as a "virus threat." The latest reply said "Our firewall has removed and destroyed your resume and cover letter as it is in a format that can contain a self executing file.....Please send as a standard word (ie. .doc,.pdf,.wrd, .txt) file and not as a .lnk file".     - Word 2003 crashes when setting language to Spanish and writing anything I have Win Xp Professional and Office 2003. When I have a document with the language set completely to Spanish or a blank document with language set to spanish and write something word closes immediately without any error message. With a document wwith the language set to any other language it works fine.     - Word XP 2002 Spell check questions. Hi all, My XP word act weird recently. When I open or create a new document, then I will do the spell check after I finish writing. The language setting will switch to Dutch after finish the whole process of spell check. The weird thing is even I go to Tools and set language back to English, and it will switch back to dutch by itself. When It swicth to Dutch, then the spell check wont' work on my writing in English. For example, If I type some words in wrong spelling, the spell check will not detect that at all. This bother me for long time, Can anyone has any suggestions?     - Horizontal ruler there, but unavailable Often in the middle of working with any document, the horizontal ruler becomes unusable. It's still there on the screen, but I can't use it for anything and it doesn't update when I click into different paragraphs. Often, in place of the ruler I see a portion of the screen from another application in its place. To reactivate the ruler, I have to minimize the document and restore.     - vbe6.dll error on exiting Word Hi When I close Word either by pressing the application close cross on the top right hand corner of the app or by pressing the key ALT-F4, a MS message is displayed prompting to save the file > click Yes. The result is a Winword.exe crash and the message is on the vbe6.dll file. For some time I have been unable to see any choices on the Edit tab of
Tools->Options in Word97. I so rarely clicked on it, I always thought it was
a momentary problem, but now it's starting to bug me, because I *never* get
any choices. It's a big blank tab. I'm wondering if it's a symptom of a
larger problem.

I just tried reinstalling Office97, but that didn't help. I'm clueless as
to how to proceed to diagnose this problem.
