In a document sometimes it does offer suggestions, but when I choose them, it
does not change them in the document, I have to manually change things and
then hit resume.

Spellchecker gives me the option to undo edit, but will not allow me to
"ignore changes." I have to close the window and start the spellcheck in a
different section of the document or it will just do the same thing.

Are you tracking changes in the document?

I suspect that has something to do with it, then. If you correct words, the
changes won't be effective until you accept the changes.
