    - Cannot open online files using office 2003 sp2 After applying the lates security patches I am unable to open online files from within office applications, Word and Excel. If I go to the mapped drive and open the file it will launch with the appropriate application, but if I try to save or open another file, the application becomes unresponsive.     - auto close on save not working When I make changes to a document, Word is no longer prompting me to save the changes when I close the application. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the application, applying all updates, replacing normal.dot... nothing seems to solve the problem. I have background saves and autorecover turned on in the options, and the auto_close macro appears to be present. Can anyone tell me if there is something else that might be causing this problem?     - Word2003: Wrong "Manually duplex" with duplex printers Hello, we have trouble using Word2003 SP2 with the inbuild duplex capabilities of printers like HP Laserjet 5N. The printer is connected with a WinNT4 printserver. I installed several instances of the printer and shared them. Every instance has its own settings, so e.g. one is for "normal" print and another for "duplex". The idea is to select the appropriate printer instance instead of changing the printer settings. We are using this way for many years But now with Word2003 the problem comes: When I select the "normal" printer in print dialog there is a checkbox "Manually duplex" (which is unchecked). That's ok. Do I select the "duplex" printer this checkbox disappears. That's ok too because the printer can handle the duplex itself. But: The hidden selection seems to switch to "Manually duplex". Word sends e.g. page 1 and 3 to the printer, opens the dialog to ask me to turn the paper and then sends the pages 2 and 4 (or vice versa). The result are two sheets of paper: page 1 + 3 and 2 + 4. This has to be a bug I think, or am I wrong? Is anybody here and found a solution for this problem? Many thanks in advance for an answer.     - Cannot save files in Word Not sure if this is yet another manifestation of the ongoing problems with MS06-015 but whenever I try to save a file I get a "disk is full or too many files are open" error message.     - Word 2003 Fonts missing in user profile Admin profile o.k. There are only about 10 fonts listed for a particular users profile. There are spaces like 10 rows of no titles of fonts and then a couple is list and more space. If I log off as user and log on as Administrator there seems to be all the fonts no blank lines. First I did a repair logon as Administrator, did not help user profile fonts still missing. Logon as user, did a repair and no change to Word in user profile ( fonts still missing) I uninstall Office and reinstalled office in administrator profile. When I logon as user the profile was the same as before I uninstalled Office. If I go to fonts folder in Control Panel all is there. The printer prints a test page perfectly. Apparently the uninstall of Office did not correct the problem, is there a way to del the causing files or folder that contributing to the uninstall not clearing out everything.     - Unable to delete a document This one have me stumped. Whenever I open Word 2000, instead of opening to a new document, it opens to a document that I copied from a recipe site on line and pasted into Word.     - Temporary file overwrites original without choosing Save I have one network user with odd behavior in Word (Office Pro 2003). After editing a saved document and then closing it WITHOUT SAVING, the edits are still somehow overwriting the original text. This will go on for a period of time - several days - and then it apparently spontaneously stops and the program works normally again, only saving the changes when told to save. Some of these documents no doubt should be set up as templates to prevent overwriting but that's rather beside the point. An open document should be able to be reverted to its last saved state! Have checked for viruses and deleted the normal.dot template. No macros are used. Have also tried turning off fast saves and background saves, no difference. The problem seems to occur intermittently both with network locations (Windows Server 2003 domain) and on the local drive (XP Pro SP2). I'm at a loss to understand what is going on here.     - Word Crashes when trying to print and copy/paste whole document Word XP (2002) crashes everytime I try to print my dissertation, this happens at home, college, friends pc's when trying to print this word document out. It causes the pc to hang until you have to ctrl alt del to get rid of it. the printer drivers are all fine at home, college and friends houses so it has to be the file. ive tried copying pasting into new document but that freezs any pc as well. there are about 20 pictures in the file on 75 pages with graphs and tables. nothing out of the ordinary is in the file. it works fine untilyou want to print it out.     - User does not have access privileges I made several word documents, and even a notepad document on a different computer and saved it on an external harddrive. Running WinXP and Word XP/2003. Now on my laptop (also running WinXP and Office XP) the filename shows in green text, and I get the above error message.     - problem generating list of figures - duplicate entries I'm working on a large document with a table of contents, list of tables, and list of figures. I've created these using insert->reference->Index and tables Sometimes I find duplicate entries, expecially in the list of figures which is generated. I've tried reformating that figure legend to 'normal' or 'clear formatting' and then reassing it to the appropriate heading level, but this sometimes causes even more duplicate entries in the list of figures - how to I fix this problem? I can attach a file if it is stand alone but not if it is in one of my folders. The error message is that insert is not responding and then it sends a report to Microsoft.     - Word 2003 graying out menu options One of my 5th Grade students is attempting to complete an assignment using MS Word 2003. He called me tonight to report that he is observing strange behavior from Word that is keeping him from completing the assignment (which is due in a couple of days). As he described it, when he attempts to edit his in-process document, he gets a message saying "This modification is not allowed because the document is locked." Sounds like the file is simply Protected, right? But under Tools, the menu option "Protect Document" is displayed but grayed out. I'd expect to see "Unprotect Document" displayed if the document had been protected. Other menu options are also unavailable, the most surprising being "File | New." He can't even begin a new document! When he opened a known "good" document after re-booting, he had the same problem, suggesting the issue might be with the install of Word rather than with any individual document. The copy appears to be appropriately licensed based on the "Help | About" display. I asked him to use the "Help | Detect and repair" option to reset any customized settings to the factory default, but this didn't fix the problem. I've checked the KB and every other resource I can think of, to no avail. Anybody have any idea how to help this kid get access to his own documents? Thanks in advance!     - can not open a word 2002 file get a hungapp message My Word 2002 and Frontpage 2003 have worked well until this week. I down loaded some MS Windows updates. This may not be the proble. Now when I start up either word or FP 2003 and click on open and select a file name to open it will not open the file and the cursor hour clock will just process and never open. I get "hungapp" errors that get reported to MS error reporting. I also have typed in a letter and used mail merge and proceeded with the step (1-6) and if I try to select a different database that the one associated originally with the file or new to the file, I can not open the file. I have run MS beta spyware defender and I am using Norton Internet Security2006 and I faithfully update the definitions sometimes three times a week. I have looked at hits on google searching for hungapp and see little to help me. PLease Help.........I need to get out a large mass mailing of 1200 items. When I try to open a word document by using the dropdown, look in menu, it
locks up and "open (not responding)" is shown. Word closes down and an
error message to Microsoft is displayed. If I use the "up one level" icon I
can search for the document I want. I also find that when I have a document
open and want to save as, I have the same problem and Word closes down again.
