My trial version of Word 2003 expired. I can still open a document, but
cannot make any modifications and I receive the error : This modification is
not allowed because the document is locked......................
So I downloaded a "free" trial version of Office 2007 and guess what~~~~it
is giving me the same error message ~~~HELP!
Thanks

Did you uninstall Office 2003 first? The trial version of Office 2007
installs along side previous installs of Office so that you can roll back
without losing and having to reinstall the previous version.

No I did not uninstall the 2003 edition. However, after posting this, I
re-opened Office 2007 and another pop-up box opened, I clicked on the link ~~
I guess it had not finished activating and now it works. So far I am liking
the 2007 version, do you feel that all the 'kinks' have been worked out of
it? This way I can get a feel for it before I buy it.
Thanks for your input.

I've been Office 2007 for over 18 months and the RTM version of Office 2007
exclusively since early November. While there are still some bugs that need
to be worked out (which unfortunately is the case in every single version)
they aren't enough to impact every day use. They aren't bugs that cause Word
to crash - they are what I call "annoyance bugs" - and it's likely you may
never encounter them. :-)

Please post all follow-up questions to the newsgroup. Requests for
assistance by email can not be acknowledged.
