correcting program not responding errors on microsoft word

My Microsoft Word program has suddenly developed an error. I am running
windows Xp and I noticed this week after it booted up micosoft word, I cannot
use the open command onthe file menu to access my normal directory of
documents. The program freezes and gives me the Program not rrsponding
message on the blue bar on the top of the page...any suggestions.

Probably you have a bad mapped drive or an invalid connection set up. Go
into Windows Explorer and remove any dead or invalid mapped drives.
