Systematic crash of Word when linked to lan printer as default
Hello,
I have Word 2003 on a portable pc. The printer (HP5150) set as default
printer is on a WIFI lan. The lan connection is active.
When I open any document, Word crashes, proposes to recover the document,
after recovery crashes again, and so on.
This does not happen if I configure a 'local' printer as default printer on
the portable pc.
Thanks for any idea to solve this problem.

Are the forms toolbar and control toolbox functions incompatible?
I am using Word XP to create forms which include Text Form Fields (from the
form toolbar) plus Option Buttons + Check Boxes (from the control toolbox).
The forms are protected and saved as templates. They take a long time to
open, but function fine on several machines, however the control toolbox
functions do not work at all on another bunch of machines after the forms are
saved as Templates (prior to this they seem to work okay)
All computers are running the same version of Office XP. The older bunch of
machines can run the templates and the newer machines do not. All machines
that have been tested with these forms are on the same network.
Can anyone help me?

Word crashes when typing - cause partly found
Word 2002 on XP.
Invariably after about 10 lines or so of typing the error-report box pops up
and Word sets about recovering the document. It doesn't happen if the
user is typing an e-mail.
I ran through all the stuff in
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/ProbsOpeningWord.htm
except the stuff on the Startup path which I find confusing and inaccurate
regarding the registry entry
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\10.0\Word\Options\"Startup-path".
There's no such "startup-path" entry in the registry - and none in my copy
of Word 2000 either.
Word similarly "crashes" using Run winword.exe /a and also in Windows "Safe
Mode" but into the second page of typing i.e. it seems to get further before
the error-report box pops up.
By elimination, I found that the problem does NOT occur provided I disable
the HAL speech synthesis (for visually impaired users).
I contacted Dolphin, the manufacturers of HAL. They've made a couple of
suggestions eg checking for updated map files, running RAM tests and
checking the hard drive. However, if anyone has any additional
suggestions, I'd be most grateful to hear them,
Thanks

Run-Time error: '509' SetDocumentDirty command not available
We just upgraded our Citrix Server from Office 2000 to Office 2003. We have
quite a few documents that are protected from editing. After the upgrade to
Office 2003, if you right click on a document and choose print, the following
error pops up "Run-time error: '509': The SetDocumentDirty command is not
available because the document is locked for editing" If I unprotect the

as Read-Only. There are not form controls on these documents, just text. I
have also copied one of the documents to my local XP workstation and can
reproduce the problem. Has anyone else run into this issue? Any insight

Difficulty starting Word and emails in Outlook
I have Office 2003 Professional and recently I have trouble opening up every
Word file (and it is affecting email in Outlook). Something seems corrupted.
I have run Detect and Repair in both Word and Outlook, but to no avail.
I have difficulty opening up every document, and can no longer have 2 Word
documents open at the same time. It takes forever to open/close documents,
and the same thing with email. Often I will get some message upon closing of
Word about the normal template being changed. I don't know what that means,
but I usually hit cancel.
I also have Adobe Acrobat installed on my PC, if that makes any difference.
Are there any ideas about how to fix? This is extremely frustrating.

Can I recover a corrupted file?
While using a family desktop computer (rather than my personal laptop that I
normally use), I plugged in an external hard drive containing my Docoments
folder and thus was able to open and work with several of my Word documents.
Later, when I tried to open the same files on my laptop, I could not. I went
back to the desktop but could not open them there either. I've tried both of
Word's suggestions -- the "Recover Text" option and the "Open and Repair"
option -- when opening the files, but all I got was the same sort of
text/symbol gibberish you normally get when a file is corrupt. There's no
trace of my original content.
I have no idea how this happened, but I'd really like to fix it if I can. Is
there a way to translate those symbols into my original text? Or,
alternately: since I was using files stored on an external hard drive, might
there be pre-corrupt versions stored somewhere on the computer's own hard
drive? Maybe something like older auto-recover files?

Word runs slowly with XML
I'm using Word 2003 with the latest updates. It runs great until I create an
XML tagged document with an .XSD schema. The application responds slowly
when the cursor is moved or tabbed. It takes around a minute just to add an
XML tag.
A KB article (KB 831026 "Your computer responds slowly when you work with
XML documents in Word 2003") describes similar symptoms. It's work around
is to disable spell check and grammar check. This doesn't help.
However, when I disable my network connection, this application
miraculously starts working properly. My first guess was the application is
attempting to hit the namespace URI's in the XSD. So I've edited them
several times to actual sites but application is still slow.
How can I work around this without disabling network connectivity? Tag: coming up with Italian in spell check Tag: 104703
Why did my Toolbar change without me changing it?
I recently upgraded to MS Office 2003. It worked OK at first, but then I
noticed the top Tool Bar had changed on my documents. The text tools (File,
Edit, View, etc.) were gone and I could not find a way to change it back.
The other tool bars with icons are still there, though. I tried doing a
custom toolbar with those menus, but when I try to use them, they don't give
me the scroll down box.
Another oddity is I can't get to the "Print" layout and I hate the other
views (Outline, Web, etc).
I finally uninstalled the upgrade as well as Outlook 2000 (my original
program) and ran the "Detect & Repair" function, but nothing works.
Please help - I'm on a deadline and really need Word to word right.

When opening a template I get error: Errors ocurred during load
Hello, I'm trying to open a Template file which i got from a vendor. The
template contains macros for installation of an add-on for Word. First time i
tried this there was no problem. I Set security level to low and enabled vb
projects. But later i uninstalled this and now when i try i get the error:
"Microsoft Visual Basic" as title and "Errors occured during load". Now
there isn't anything physically wrong with the file, have retried and
re-downloaded and all this and that.
As i said sec level is set to low and enable vb projects is enabled.
I have a little suspicison that it might be the antivirus system but i have
tried to disable this but word still says that there is an antivirus system
enabled (in the security dialog) in Word.
So the question is three fold:
a: is it possible to forcibly open a document/template without and skipping
the anitvirus part?
b: is it possible to get a listing of what plugins are used for antivirus
scanning in Office?

document does not open on double-click within explorer
Hello.
I am using Windows XP together with Office 2000. Until some weeks ago,
WORD worked properly regarding double-clicking WORD documents within

Does somebody has an explanation for this behavior and a solution to

Word 2003 protected forms and tab key?
I have just upgraded to Word 2003. I created a relatively simple document
with 2 sections. Section 1 will contain form fields, protected text, and a
button, but only the button has been added yet. Section 2 contains a
freeform area with multiple places where a user will enter freeform RTF
information.
When I protect the document for forms, selecting section 1 to protect, and
start enforcing the protection, the tab key stops working correctly within
the document. Anytime I hit tab, anywhere within the unprotected section, it
pops up to the button in the protected section. I've removed the button and
tried again, but the tab key just pops the cursor to the top of the
unprotected section.
I've had a very similar document within Word 2002, but this never happened
there. Is it a glitch in Word 2003? Is there something I can do to get
around the issue? I just can't expect users to never need a tab key, there
are tables within the open section of the document. Tag: coming up with Italian in spell check Tag: 104622

Word 2000 Crashes - Troubleshooting
Computer is WXP Pro SP2, fully patched
White box PC, Pentium III/1000, 512MB RAM, 20GB hard drive (5GB free)
Problem product: Office 2000 Professional, patched to SP3a
Problem: Word crashes frequently, 10+ times per day. About half the time
it's in the middle of editing a document, the other half it's when trying to
exit the program. In every case the error trap "... has encountered a problem
and needs to be closed" with the option to send information to Microsoft over
the Web is presented. The user always opts not to send the information.
What has been tried so far:
- Error scan of hard drive using built-in XP error checking. No errors found
- Deletion of all temporary files in user's temp files folder
- Complete system scan with Trend Micro OfficeScan antivirus (up-to-date).
No viruses found
- Complete system scan with Ad-Aware SE Personal antispyware (up-to-date).
No malware found
- Ran the Detect & Repair function from Word's Help menu
- Ran a "Repair" re-installation of Office 2000 Professional
- Completely uninstalled, then re-installed Office 2000 Professional, and
reapplied all patches up to SP3a
The user's computer is otherwise running fine, there are no crashes with
other components of Office 2000 or with other user applications.
Can anyone offer any other troubleshooting ideas? Tag: coming up with Italian in spell check Tag: 104608

the following:
- renaming the file, and then trying deleting it.
- deleting the file
- erasing the contents of the document, typing something new and saving it.
- searching for the document on my system (which is no where to be found)
and deleting it that way.
I never named the document, but when I do a Save AS, the name in the doc
title is 3. That happens to be the first character in the doc. So it has
