    - Can't get traditional outline format to autonumber in Word 2007 I am trying to create an outline. In Word 2007, there are icons for "numbered lists" in the Paragraph section of the "ribbon". Within the selections available in the pull down menu are various formats for numbered and bulleted lists. All of them work for me correctly except one. The ones with symbols for the different levels work; but the one in the traditional Outline format of I.A.1.a.(1) does not autonumber. So, for example, when I select that format, I get a roman numeral I. and I can type text; but when I hit Enter, I don't get a II. on the left margin. Sometimes, but not always, after the data has been inserted, the font for that cell has been changed to Arial.     - Exception When Setting Password Hi I have recently released a COM-AddIn for Word 2007 product in beta test. At two customer sites an error is occuring when the program attempts to set the password programmatically. To restrict the number of variables, I have created a bare-bones program that does nothing but the following operations: starts up Word; opens a blank document; and then attempts to set the password to an empty string. i.e., activeDocument.Password=""; This is about as simple as you can get and works fine most everywhere I have tried it. But on these two machines an exception is thrown every time: Exception: Bad Password Stack: at Microsoft.Office.Interop.Word.DocumentClass.set_Password(string) We have done a 'repair' installation of Word and I have looked for any obvious problems in his setup and not found anything.     - office application version does not match I am an owner of Office 2003, which was installed on my previous computer under Windows XP. I had to replace my XP machine and now have a Vista Home Premium machine. I installed Office 2003 on my Vista machine and updated it with SP3 for Office 2003. However, each time I open one of the Office 2003 products, such as Word, I receive a message which says "Office application version does not match"; after I click "OK" on this message a window pops up with the Microsoft License agreement which has to be agreed to each time.     - Hot-keys don't work anymore Recently all hotkeys have stopped working. For example, using Ctrl+B no longer makes words bold. This is not the first time this has happenned, but is a problem that has only appeared on this computer in the past couple of days.     - Error 4198 Hi folks, Using: Windows XP/Word 2003. I'm mystified by an error that pops up when I (and another person) open a template (as a template). We get the error message "Error 4198 command failed". We can click past this message and get to the template. The template has custom styles but no macros, toolbars, autotext. There is very little text, just enuf to show samples of each style. On the documents based on it, Auto Update of Styles is set OFF. There's a problem which may or may not be related to that error. On documents based on the template, if we modify the Space Before of a style and save the document, when we open the document, the spacing has reverted to the orginal. I've switched to Normal.dot temporarily to see if the problem goes away -- and it does go away.     - cannot open embedded excel worksheet in word 2007 I have a client who uses 'Insert/Table/Excel Spreadsheet' with Word 2007. This does not link to another existing excel document but basically makes a table in the middle of the word document. It worked fine for some time but suddenly he is getting this error when he tries to open/edit the embedded worksheet: "The program used to create this object is Excel. That program is not installed on your computer. To edit this object, you must install a program that can open the object." Excel is installed and works perfectly fine on its own. In fact, if I make a new Word document and do 'Insert/Table/Excel Spreadsheet' to this new document, it will open the worksheet just fine until I save and reopen the file. He has another computer at his office that has this problem too, but most of them are fine. We have done repair and full removal and reinstall of Office 2007 Pro and still get this error. I found something that referenced Norton antivirus plugins but he does not use Norton. I disabled his antivirus anyway but that didn't help either. Anyone have any ideas? In one step, I call the Word.doc that I have already created and saved onto the pc. When calling the Word.doc I get a microsoft warning message "The file "name".doc is not available.     - Software restriction policy: problem opening documents I have set up a software restriction policy on my Vista Ultimate PC. This works fine. However, as a side affect I can no longer open PDF (adobe reader) or Word (2007) documents from a CD or USB flash drive by double clicking them. They will open if dropped onto an already running program. They open fine from the main drive. If I double click on a word document on a flash drive (F:) I get "Windows cannot find F:\test.doc. Make sure you typed the name correctly and then try again. I can open a DPF by dropping in onto an already running instance of adobe reader. If I try the same with test.doc on a running copy of Word it opens in a strange mode where I am unable to edit it properly. F:\Test.txt opens fine by double clicking. I am a limited user and user account control is on. I have restricted it so ordinary users can only run programs from "program files" and the "windows" directory. Do Word and Adobe Reader use some special mechanism to open the files that is being interfered with? Text files appear to open OK. Can anyone help?     - All Formatting Changes when I change 1 Paragraph Help!!! When I am working on a Word 2003 doc. and change the formatting of 1 line, the entire document assumes that formatting style! I have to hit the "Undo" button, and the remainder of the document returns to its previous formatting, and only the area 1 wanted to change actually remains changed. This is most frustrating when I want to change several types of formatting. For example, if I want to bold and center a heading, I highlight ONLY the heading. I hit "Bold" and the entire doc. becomes bold. I then hit "Undo" and all but the heading return to their previous non-bold font. Then I have to repeat the process for "Center." In the past, if I have any typing mistake, e.g. I typed "Appla" instead of "Apple", I can highlight "a" and then type "e" to replace the "a" by "e".     - Global Template/Normal.dot issue I know this has been addressed several time throughout the newgroup. And I have tried all the fixes suggested. However, I am still experiencing a problem. I run Windows XP Pro Version 2002 SP 2, with Microsoft Office 2003. Not only do I get the question about a change to the global template, (and this is where my slight difference comes into play) BUT I also litterally can get several WINWORD.EXE applications running even though I don't have Word or Outlook actually running. The only way I know that I have several instances of WINWORD.EXE running, is that my computer will lock up and I have to do the famous "CTRL + ALT + Delete" and will see it in my list of processes. I have to individually 'end process' them. At first I thought it was a toolbar that I had to install that was interferring, but I just don't know anymore. I use a program called Reference Manager and there is a toolbar that I can have running in Word so that I can create reference lists for articles. There are a few others in my office that also have this program installed, however, no one else has this interference issue; so I don't know that Reference Manager toolbar is the issue.     - Word 2007 Spellcheck not working I have just started using Word 2007 (was using office 2000) and my spellcheck is only catching the grammatical mistakes but not the spelling errors. I.E. only green curlys and no red ones. I have already ensured that: "Do not check spelling and grammar automatically" "Detact language automatically" "Hide spelling errors in this document only" "Hide grammar error in this document only" are ALL UNchecked.     - Can't Make Line Shape Longer I am using the drawing feature of Word 2007. I draw a horizontal line by holding down the Shift key while drawing. Later, if I want to make the line longer, I select it, hold down the Shift key and drag one of the ends of the line. This is supposed to let me make the line longer without changing the orientation of the line. What it does instead is make the length of the line extend clear off the end of the document, to what seems like infinity.     - comments initials change when printing hello everyone, i have been having this little problem and it's driving me nuts. word 2003 when i add a comment on my document my initials show up. and as i add on more comments, the comments with my initials get numbered. now the problem is when i print them. my initials disappear and they get replaced by other letter(s). sometime just a letter. the comments remain and the numberings. so in summary, my initials in my comments get replaced by letter(s) when i print the document. any help would be appreciated. thanks in advance.     - blank document has symbol I've reviewed and tried the fixes in "blank document not blank" but they don't work. I recently installed Word 2002 onto my new laptop. Its operating system is Vista. I have the same program on my office computer & it works fine but from the first, when I open Word the blank document has a border (for lack of a better word) in each corner. It looks like part of a square... top left corner has right and bottom of square, top left has left and bottom, etc. I can't click on them or access them in any way.     - Insert Symbol causes loop In Word 2002, the Insert Symbol function frequently enters a loop, where the window updates continuously, and no commands are recognized. Pressing escape repeatedly and clicking on the top bar manages to shut the window and return to Word, but the function is rendered useless. This typically occurs when a symbol from a particular font has been used, and another font is chosen from inside the Insert Symbol dialogue, which does not utilize that particular slot.     - THIS DOCUMENT COULD NOT BE REGISTERED ERROR IN WORD when opening a new empty document or any existing document in WORD (2003) I now always receive the error message : "This document could not be registered. It will not be possible to create links from other documents to this document" Other than this annoying message, there does not appear to be any other effect. I don't know what the message means, I could find no reference in the Office help site to this message, nor any reference to "registering a document" anywhere in the Word help. Another recent problem of much more significance is that I now am unable to use MS Access at all, whenever I attempt to open an existing database or just open the bare program I always get the error message "A problem occurred while MS Office Access was communicating with the OLE server or ActiveX control" It is impossible to regain control of Access, whenever we close the message box, it just reopens again, and we cannot do anything at all in Access including closing down the program. Just starting today, I typed up a document and sent it to print and as soon as it printed, the paragraphs condensed all their text to less than half an inch (all the letters sit on top of each other). When I create documents in English the spelling and grammer works fine, but in Swedish I get the error message: "Microsoft Office Word cannot check the spelling or grammer in this document. There are several causes of this. It is often because there is a third party
utility installed that is messing with the Office clipboard. Another reason
is the temp folder is over-full with abandoned crap. See
