Hi,

I've had some word attachments on my email that won't open. I am assuming
that they are an older version of word however, I have opened old word
documents in the 2007 version with no problem.
The error message I am getting is 'file extention' is not a valid win32
application.

Can you please help?

Thanks
Abi

Hi,

The file extension is .doc. I can save it to my documents with no problems
but when i click to open the file the win32 application message appears. It
does open with Wordpad but without all the formating etc.
The file is a job application form. I have gone into the properties of the
file and on the General Tab at the bottom it says
Security: This file came from another computer and might be blocked to help
protect this computer.
I changed this and it didn't make a difference.

Thanks
Abi

See http://www.word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/ReRegisterWord.htm .

If re-registering Word doesn't fix the problem, then in Windows Explorer
or My Computer, click on Tools | Folder Options | File Types. Scroll
down the list of registered file types until you see "DOC Microsoft Word
Document", left-click on it once to select it, and click on Advanced.
In the list of Actions, "Open" should be the default (indicated by bold
print). If "Open" isn't the default, make it so. If "Run" is one of
the listed actions, remove it.

Hi,

Thanks for that. I have been playing around today and finally managed to get
it to open. When i originally right clicked on the file the only options to
open with were Office 2007 and Wordpad. After fiddling, not sure what i did,
it gave another option, microsoft office word, and after clicking on that it
worked.

Thanks for your help
Abi
