Seriously, I gather that this is in all programs and not just in Word
(which then makes me wonder why you posted in this newsgroup). If the
problem appears only in Word, can you remember downloading or
installing any add-ins or macros?
If the problem is in all programs and you're using a desktop PC, try
borrowing a keyboard from someone else to see if it's a problem with
this particular keyboard.
If the other keyboard works, the cause of the problem might be
something jammed under the spacebar, or it might be a broken switch.
You can try cleaning it, but replacement keyboards are very
inexpensive.
If swapping keyboards doesn't help, or if you have a laptop, you're
probably looking at a trip to the repair shop.
