My computer:
Win2K Pro, Service Packs installed,
P4 - 1.5 GHz, 512 MB RAM.

When I tried to open a word file of ~2MB,
it is not responding 20-30 secons later,
but the file opens 40-50 minutes later.
I also tried to open that file another PC which
has the same configuration and the file opens
in 1 minutes.
If someone can help me to solve that strange problem,
I will be fine and can sleep tranquilly.
Thanks.

One possible cause is the following scenario:

1. The attached template is on a network.

2. "Automatically update document styles" is checked, so Word is looking for
the template.

3. The template has been moved or deleted.

Word will keep looking for the template for a long time as long as you're
connected to the network; if you disconnect, it will open quicker, and you
can deselect "Automatically update" or reattach the template in its new
location (or a different template).

Thanks...
As you said, when I disconnect to the network, the file
opened in 1 minute. And "Automatically update document
styles" had been already unchecked.
But I couldn 't solve the problem and it is going on when
I try to open with network connection.
So it is boring to open the file after disconnecting to
the network each time.
Can you tell me step by step how to solve
if it would not be problem for you.
Thanks all.

Did you also check the attached template as Suzanne suggested?

If the attached template, found under Tools/Templates and Add-ins, is
on the network and is no longer available then Word is searching for
it.

If you find that to be the case and if you are using Word 2002 (you
didn't indicate the most important item in your first post - your Word
version <s>) Microsoft now has a hotfix available.

Note a hotfix requires you to contact Microsoft to obtain it. When you
call tell them you are calling in regards to KB 823372. You shouldn't
be charged for a hotfix however just make sure you don't ask about
anything else. <g>

What is the document content?

Does it contain images? Did you copy/paste some of the data from a web
page?

Open the document, press Alt + F11, and see if any field codes
display. What you would be looking for are fields which contain
network paths.

Yes, the document contains only images.
Yes, I copy data from web page by PrintScreen Key on
keyboard.
So all in th document are images.
And I did what you said.I pressed Alt+F11 and then didn't
find any field codes in opened window.

I want to say again that I can open this document (~1MB)
on another computer without disconnecting to network
which has the same configuration.

I am wating for your suggestion.
Thanks...
