    - Why do my initials change when I save document track changes? I am revising a document using Track Changes. When I record my change, my initials show up in the bubble. However, when I save the document, the changes are reverted back to Author and my initials are no longer in the bubble. In other words, my initials are replaced by Author when I save.     - Word 2004 Audio Notes Feature I use Microsoft Word Mac on my MacBook with OS 10.5.2 and have had a lot of trouble with the audio notes feature. It doesn't work. Every time I've tried to use it it seems to be recording just fine and then when I tell it to stop I get the pinwheel as if it is compiling the stuff it just recorded, but then it freezes up my Mac and I have to do a hard reboot.     - text is repeating when scrolling through text The problem only happens when I'm working in Word, and it involves my external USB mouse. Whenever I use the center scroll wheel on my mouse to scroll through a Word document, it scrolls downwards just fine, but when I try to scroll upwards, the screen/page won't refresh properly. As a result, one or more lines of text will appear to repeat over and over on the page.     - What do the "You have an open dialogue box" messages mean? When i insert my flash drive and rty to open a file, i often get a message, "you can not access this file becsue you have an ipen dialogue box. close the dialogue box and try again". but i don't know where or what to do. if I try several tiems, I can usually get in, but these messages have become very annoying.     - problem with word - the text disappeared Hi i have windows XP and word 2003 In one file i had 1 page text and i have make save to continue the next day. The next day i had open the file to continuing the text. After 10 or 12 lignes after a noise like ''tik'' all the text disappeared and only the 3 last words is there. In the directory windows/temp the recovery file have 2 pages blank in in page 3 have only the 3 last words and nothing else!!     - Word2003 closing during typing Hi. I have a problem using Word for writing documents and using it w/ Outlook to write messages. In regular mode, after typing approx. 200-400 characters, the window simply dissapears. No messages, no nothing. The window simply dissapears. Same thing happens within Outlook and while starting Word in Safe Mode. Any suggestions? Anything is appreciated. BTW, all updates installed, OS WinXP SP3.     - "Error! Objects cannot be created from editing field codes." Hi I am editing a document using Word 2003 (SP3). I have embedded several Visio diagrams into it. Before distributing a document I always select the entire document and hit F9 to update all fields. However, when I do this to this document, one or more of the embedded Visio diagrams disappears and is replaced by: "Error! Objects cannot be created from editing field codes."     - Page scrolling When I am typing in Word 2007 and I get to the bottom of the page, instead of the screen scrolling down to keep the curser in sight, the page automatically jumps to the top of the page and I have to scroll down manually to see what I am typing. I just finished typing an email in Outlook, which uses Word as the default word processor, and had to scroll down after I finished typing every single line once I filled up the frame I was typing in.     - MS Word cannot find my Outlook address folder I have always used "insert address" to add an address from my Outlook Contacts folder - now all of a sudden Word cannot find the folder and Word is not at all helpful in letting me figure out where it is lookng, (I searched under evey name or query I could thhink of) in case I changed the folder name ... where is the default setting for Word to find my Outlook Contacts folder???     - File Conversion On Some Files I read through some of the posts on this already, but none of them were exactly what I'm looking for. It appears that some word files (they may be office mac word) that get sent to us are wanting to do the file conversion on an "understandable language". This just started happening maybe a few weeks ago. The tricky thing is that when we open up that same file through Web Outlook - it opens up just fine without any problems. (Maybe it's something going on within the network and not in the dmz???). I've tried saving it to my pc first, I've tried a detect and repair, I've tried it on other machines and have come up with nothing. Anybody have any insight on this?     - Word 2000 copying and pasting glitch Whenever I open a new or existing Word document and attempt to paste something from the clipboard into it, I find that it is grayed out and that I must go back and recopy the material that I want to paste into Word.     - Sub-levels misplaced by Outline view In Outline view (Word 2007), with only level 1 showing, I hit return after the last heading 1 entry, in order to start a new level 1 heading. All of the sub-levels of that last level 1 heading are now misplaced below the new level 1 heading. As I understand, hitting return in outline view will create a new paragraph of the same level as the last one, but that everything below that last heading should remain with the same paragraph; not be moved to the new one.     - Bullets - crushing error Since some days ago, when I want to insert bullets word crushes. I re-installed the complete office suit and erase the last security updates but it still happening.     - Docx converter doesn't work on xp64/Word2003 Fully patched for everything as per Windows update. Have the converter installed along with relevant updates. Tried the various tricks mentioned here and other boards (e.g. re-install converter, re-install office, remove .tmp/$ files, enable manual selection of file conversion, sacrifice a small animal, etc....) - nothing worked. Absolutely not a corrupted docx or a permissions issue as I have another machine with the same version of Office but running XP 32-bit. Really, the only difference is one OS is XP 64-bit, one is XP 32-bit. Works just fine for PPTx and XLSx. Very, very frustrating. Help? Thanks. -Angie K. PS. Competely unrelated but why the big change in Office 2007 interface? I've got one machine running that and absolutely hate it. Feels like I'm being forced to use the mouse more than keyboard. I'm not just talking about short-cuts. I find it MUCH faster to navigate through menus (up to 3 levels deep) using the keyboard (alt-this, alt-that, arrow keys, etc...).     - Some documents slow to open Have a client with a brand new XP SP3 PC. Plenty of processor, ram and drive space running Office 2000 with SP3 applied. Some documents (most open just fine) take 10-60 seconds to open. I have made sure there are no stray mapped drives or invalid printers. I have also started with the /a switch and the only thing I found that greatly increases opening speed is by pulling the network plug or disabling the NIC and this is with a locally stored file. When the PC was restarted, she tried to open the Word file, but it would not open. 4. When you try to open the file, Word sort of starts, but it ends with a dialog error message saying: "You cannot put drawing objects into a text box, callout, comment, footnote, or endnote". 5. When you click OK, Word simply opens with a blank document, and you cannot use save, save-as, or print from the menu bar. NOTE: I've tried opening the program with visual basic (no luck). I've tried opening the program with word pad and note pad (no luck). NOTE: I've worked with two other people who have tried to open/use this file, and we all are facing the same problem (all of us using Win XP and Word 2003 SP3).     - Can't Open Excel Embedding Object I can't seem to open and Excel embedded worksheet in Word 2007 files after I saved and closed the files. I got "The program used to create this object is Excel. That program is not installed on your computer. To edit this object, you must install a program that can open the object." I made sure add the folder name in TRUST LOCATION in both Excel and Word. And I checed "Ignore other applicate that use DDE" in Options/Advanced/General also in both Word and Excel. I allowed all ActiveX application to run in both. I am not getting anywhere. The computer will asked me if I want to correct the problem. I click YES, then, it will run the Office Setup program for "CONFIGURATING" I have no idea what it is doing. After about 10 min, it tells me to reboot. I did that and restarted the PC, same thing will happen. I tried creating a NEW Word file. Insert an Excel table, just enter 2 cells in Excel with random keys strokes. Then close it. I can reopen the Excel table without problem. As soon as I close Word and reopen the file. the Embedded object is locked out. This does not happen in 1 computer. I have the same problem on three computers 1. I can't see where the problems come from. I did not have the problem about 1 month ago. Now all three machines has the same problem. One more interesting info. All three machine has Office 2003 SP3 installed, even I do not have any Office 2003 application in the systems. I saw a guys posted in Tutorials-win.com having the same problem in Nov 07.     - acronyms in fields in headers in Word 2003 documents A chain of specific actions in Word makes for a WEIRD glitch in some of my documents. There's a workaround, but it's an annoying inconsistency. Frequently, the title of a document includes the acronym for my company's name ("BMC"). I want the title to appear on the title page, and in the header on every page of the body. I have a template that has a separate section for the title page, with a Title field centered on the page. A later section also has a Title field in the header. After creating a new document from the template, you update the Title property in File->Properties, then right-click on the field on the title page and "update field". then repeat for the header. I've created dictionary and AutoCorrect entries to ensure that "bmc" or any capitalization variant is rendered as BMC. Now here's the weird part. In the Title field on the title page, Word renders "BMC" as "BMC", even if I use TitleCase format. But if I use TitleCase for the title field in the header, Word renders it as "Bmc". You can manually change it to BMC, save the document, and reopen it and "BMC" will appear. But as soon as you try to print, it changes "BMC" back to "Bmc". The workaround is to use "no format" for the Title field in the header and make sure the title property has correct Title Capitalization when you type it into File->Properties. This may be undesirable for viewing properties in other applications, but who's going to care about other applications after all that? The problem also doesn't happen if you don't use a field and type the title as plain text. But then you have to type it correctly twice. Tag: Word quits all by itself Tag: 119360

    - Word 2007 Professional Document Will Not Open Documents or Close I try clicking on a document on the desktop to open it in Word. Word starts, but there is no document, not even a blank one. I can open documents from inside of Word, but that's it. When I then try to close word (no problems saving), it ALWAYS says that Word is not responding and it is searching for errors.     - Embedding Excel spreadsheet in Word: Office 2007 error I need to EMBED, not link, an Excel spreadsheet in Word 2007. Running with Office 2007. Installed SP1 for Office. I can embed the spreadsheet and save the Word file (as 2007 format) but I can't edit the spreadsheet. ERROR MESSAGE "The server application, source file, or item cannot be found. Make sure the application is properly installed, and that it has not been deleted, moved, renamed, or blocked by policy". The spreadsheet is tiny - just 20 cells or so - with some checking and totals. Any ideas? What's aggravating is that this USED to work a few months ago.     - 10-15 minutes to open Word 2007 doc Strange thing started happening last week. When you double click a Word doc either from and email (GroupWise), network drive or local drive it takes about 10-15 minutes for Word to even appear. During this time, WINWORD.EXE is not showing in the taskmgr window and the entire computer comes to a screeching halt (Vostro 1700, 3gb ram). I usually have to logoff and log back in to Windows. Last week I had done a repair installation of Office and that fixed the problem, however today the same issue is back. My temporary workaround is to open Word first to a blank doc and then open any document from inside Word. That process experiences no delays and docs open instantly.     - MSO95.dll Error in Word Version 7.0 I get the mso95.dll error when saving a file in Word. The file opens OK. This is Office 95 w/ Word ver 7.0 running on XPP SP2. Yes I know Office 95 is old software, it has been working fine until recently. I have replaced the MSO95.dll file in the two locations found on the hard drive and rebooted the system.     - Headers being squashed together when printing Hi, I have a staff member who is recently experiencing an issue with Word. She showed me the issue: She can open any document fine, but when she goes to print the document, after pressing 'print', all of the sub-headers text is squashed together into an unreadable mess. It also prints out like this. I'm assuming this may have someting to do with the print driver? Although it is strange that this is only happening to the sub-headers. All other text in the document is fine, even text that uses the same font. After trying to print the first document, all documents opened after that have the same issue, even without trying to print them.     - Added (erroneous) pages when printed? I am working in Microsoft 2003. The document we are working on is fairly heavy on the manual page and section breaks. We've been going through various drafts for the last year or so, but it's only in the past week that I've experienced the following error: For some reason, when printed (I can also view them in print preview) extra, completely blank (in other words, they don't have formatted headers and footers) appear in the document, especially when printing to PDF. In print preview, the zoom icon changes to a circle with a slash through it when I mouse over these pages, which leads me to believe that they are a sign of corruption in the document. In some instances, I've been able to get rid of these erroneous pages by tweaking page numbers and section breaks, but there are points in the document where it does not work. Any suggestions? When I start it up it tries to install and says it needs pro.msi file located on the installation cd. But the software came preloaded on the machine and it didn't come with a disk.(Bestbuy) I looked in the office folder and there is a word10 folder. I found a word icon inside and clicked on it. I get the same message but when I click cancel it pops back up. After canceling it about 4 times, word starts, but anytime I save or use anything on the tool bar the installation box reappears.     - Word Has Stopped Working Problem: Purchased version of Office 2007 Home and Student (H&S) installs/registers/activates with no problems but when trying to run Word 2007 it bombs after ~ 10 seconds stating "Word has stopped working." NOTE: I didn't try running word in safe mode or any of the other Office products (Excel, PowerPoint, etc.). I didn't try renaming word.dot to another name and try again (one of the solutions I read while perusing some forums). Software/Hardware Info: Lenova T61 Laptop running up-to-date (as of 5/3/08) Vista Home Premium w/latest SP (step-son's laptop). Can provide CPU, HDD, Memory, Graphics card infor if needed. Efforts attempted: When Word bombed, I chose the pop-up's offer to search for a solution. Updated to Office 2007 SP1 as requested and retried. Same problem again. Uninstalled Office 2007 using the option on the installation CD/DVD to uninstall. Re-installed office as above with same outcome, i.e., stopped working, update with SP1, and stopped working again. Ran Office diagnostics each time after updating to Office 2007 SP1 but all results indicated no problems. Tried to run Word again several times with same outcome except chose to try the "search MS for solutions." The pop-up went away without any response. Found out that the 20 session Word 2007 trial had been tried and the limit hit. The same error message had been given when 20 session limit was hit. I did not know this prior to installing MS H&S Office 2007 so I figured there may be legacy junk laying around that was confusing Word. Tried uninstalling the Office products with the CD/DVD and with the Control Panel program that adds and removes software. I then tried to use regedit to search the registry for orphaned Office/Word entries to delete. I couldnâ??t tell you where in the registry regedit found entries since there were numerous entries in many locations. Tried to install the product again and the same thing happened, i.e., bombed, searched for solutions, installed SP1, bombed again ran office diagnostics with no problems found. We then tried the Geeksquad @ BestBuy where we purchased the software. They tried for two (2) hours and again it failed. They tried Excel which wouldn't even open. They got a new shrink wrapped box, opened and installed it and it still bombed. Don't know if they tried it in safe mode. They refunded the purchase price, recommended paying $65 for their diagnostics and $130 for a re-install of Vista if we chose to try Office 2007 again. Questions: My step-son wants the MS product since that is what he uses at school. He leaves on his Sr. Year internship in two weeks and he wants to use the product for end of semester projects, papers, etc., so my time is limited with the machine. My MS experience level is medium (user of Word/Excel/ PowerPoint/Access 2003 versions and only with pre-Vista Osâ??es (XP, 2000, 98, etc.). (1) Should we purchase the same package and try again? (2) If not, is H&S Office 2003 or earlier available for purchase and will it run on Vista? (3) Can you point me to any forum entries/links/threads that might offer a solution or (4) could anyone out there directly suggest a solution? Sorry for the long forum entry, I am anal.     - Word 2007 errors inserting Endnote citation I have Endnote X.0.2 and I am wanting to put citations into footnotes in a 400 page document in Word 2007. When I try to do this the computer locks up endlessly recalculating page numbers. Eventually I have to close everything down and start again.     - One solution for Word 2007 crashes This is a report of a solution I stumbled onto regarding mystery crashes by Word 2007. Crashes happened on new docs, old docs, when many docs were open, when one was. Happened in spurts or not at all for hours. (specs: Office 2007, Windows XP, new Dell Optiplex, Novell Netware network--all with latest Service packs & updates) Out of 20 users with identical new Machines with Office 2007, one group of 3 suffered these frequent random crashes in Word. I did the diagnostic gamut: templates, add-ins etc. Drove me nuts for months. Had to roll back one user to Word 2003. Seven have installed Open Office on the theory that they can't trust MS (or me). Reinstallation and service pack installs bought 1-2 days of respite then problem re-emerged. Only commonality of the problem group is that (a) they work on a lot of the same docs and (b) 2 of them spew numerous temporary word files that never seem to close (they also did this in Word 2003 before the upgrade--I have no idea how they do this except that they keep many files open, are impatient and are quick to reboot when it is not necessary and don't reboot when they should). On suggestion of a wise colleague I went to Word Options, Advanced, Service Options, and turned off everything and anything that referred to shared workspace. ZERO CRASHES SINCE!!! Do not know why. In event viewer the error info. is always the same.     - Word 2003 and Document Recovery I see in Document Recovery the file (Document1) recovered but when I try to close this file, I receive the message cannot delete file: Cannot read from the source file or disk. I believe this is the normal.dot file and I have renamed this file to see if I can fix this issue but that has not worked. I have a user that has experienced his computer freezing up on him while
using Word 2003 (no SP3). He has maybe one or two documents open, but they
have links in them. It comes up with the following error:

"Word has insufficient memory. You will not be able to undo this action
once it is complete. Do you want to continue?"

The only way to get out of this is to restart. Is there a reason behind
this and is there a way to make it stop?
